Well folks, if it does use the Geneforge engine, just think of all the abuse we shall be able to dish out if we build our party mages like an Agent. So many angles of abuse possible here.

And I didn't like the Gazer graphics... sure, they're better than blobs with eyes, but they really didn't appeal. And now Drakey says (or implies) they're in...

Woe is me!

You do know you can just open the bitmap and change the graphic, yes? (I remember you use a PC, correct me if I'm wrong).

They're better than the Avernum and Exile versions of eyebeasts and gazers.

Personally, I like the Exile Gazers.

Drakey, will there be slimes in A4? If so, are they as nice looking as the Exile slimes, as dumb looking as the Avernum slimes, or somewhere in between?

This is interesting. Maybe you could be able to click a point on the map/screen, and you move there... in a turn-based fashion. (instead of Exiles 1-click=1-hex movement, which, sans keyboard movement, could be painful oncemore)

Saves the aforementioned *clickclickclickclickclickclickclick* hate which could ensue oncemore.

Nah, I'm a PC user alright, but the Geneforge graphics aren't backwards compatible with those from Avernum are they? I mean, they have all the extra fancy things.

I'll have to petition Jeff. Or just lump it.

Oh, and the movement sounds great. If I've got it right. I prefer mouse anyway, but not having to continuosly click sounds like a God-send.

I use the mouse the most. And you don't have to click that many times, you can click and hold, to advance continuously.

But since the mouse control hasn't that great precision (sometimes, a single click causes my party to advance two spaces instead of one), I see my self using the keyboard when I just want to move a little (like when opening doors, check all shelves in the a library, etc).

This is true for Avernum 1, which is the game I'm playing now. I think in BoA I didn't have that problem.

It's not true for any of the Exile games, which the "clickclickclick" was about.

the idea of having a gridded turn-based movement system with no keyboard movement is horrifiying.

sorry Jeff, no keyboard, no purchase.

More than likely, A4 will probably still play like any other Avernum game, but with a new storyline, some new graphics, new spells and probably with the same gameplay that we've been accustomed to.

A good plus would be if actual in-game music was added in, but that's asking too much already.

There is a good chance I won't buy if there is no keyboard movement. O.K, no there isn't. But I will be miffed.

Not likely. Jeff needs to limit file size, since the only way for people to get his games is via a download. If he added music, that'd increase file size, and lots of 56k users might be put off.

Plus, he'd probably have to pay a composer/musician to play it for him. And Spiderweb is a business, intent on profit-maximisation.

Ah, very true. I nearly forgot that Spidweb has very limited resources, hence the long waiting period for games to come out.

Music would be nice though, but now that I think about it, I could just dish in a CD and play my own music while playing A4.

I am also curious how Herr Vogel is planning to implement the outdoors.

Hopefully, he will retain the Avernum/Exile outdoors style, rather than moving to the blocked-out locations in the Geneforge series.

I guess I just like that sense of continuity between areas.

This of course is really a minor issue. It won't stop me from playing the game.

Apparently it's being done like GF. There is no outdoors anymore.

I believe that this is what Jeff intends.

I also believe that keyboard movement will be in the game.

Best of both worlds, really. (I broke two mouse buttons playing the Exile series back when. Click-click-click's gone, and good riddance.)

Avernum 4 is different from both the other Avernums and from Geneforge in its outdoor handling. In my opinion it's far better.

For the first, it's more than what Jeff intends - it's what's already happening.

For the second, I agree.

Good, good, I am certainly up for any changes. By the tone of your responses, I sense that this is something Jeff would like to keep concealed for right now, so I won't inquire further. Though naturally, I wouldn't mind...... :P

i personally think it would be really cool if Jeff incorporated more variety in the battles on the world map.
Example: Like in Avernum 2 when you are in Empire lands and if you fight a blockade then there is actually a blockade instead of the enemies conveniently running out of their fortified position to fight you.

I guess that would mean a better AI for monsters, but the AI could do with some improving anyway.....

Maybe its just me, but everytime I got to some blockade, emipre or not, they just stood still and didn't come after me.

Surely ye jest? What about outdoor encounters, giver of xp to the lowly? And besides, I just like being able to wander around and map every last tree. GF took the fun out of that.

Even if you approached it? They should at least ask if you have the proper empire pass.
