quote:File size is not necessarily something you'd have to have. For music that isn't too loud, you could get by with MIDI. If you want slightly better quality, you could shoot for MOD which is like MIDI only the samples used are included in the file. ;) Posts: 117 | Registered: Friday, November 2 2001 08:00 |

It seems unlikely that you'll be able to minimize A4 if you couldn't minimize GF3. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Music would be cool, but it would have to be good. It would be pretty hard to get music that would suit this game in midi form, it would just suck i think. It would need suble-epic style music similiar to games like Warcraft3 of Diablo2, which would be more MB than the entire game so i dont think that it will ever happen, well thats what i think anyway. He was using a PC and seemed to indicate that he couldn't. If you could minimize GF3, you probably still will be able to. That thread makes it sound like it can, in fact, be done by pressing the Windows key. —Alorael, who doesn't understand why the Avernum games were much easier to switch out of, hide, or otherwise temporarily remove from the forefront in OS 9 (or in Classic) than in OS X on a Mac. It seems like unnecessary regression. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Well, if you are using windows, you can minimize any screen by pressing the 'window' key (between control and alt on the bottom) and then the 'm' key. Pressing window-shift-m will do the reverse operation, maximizing the window. I have not tried this with Geneforge 3. Perhaps those beta testing could try it out for Avernum 4? quote:Alt + Tab does not equal to minimizing the window. It just switches to the last program you were using before the current one. Besides, I don't recommend using Alt + Tab or the 'window' key unless it's absolutely necessary since chances are that it will freeze the Geneforge screen, and screw up your game. Edit: forgot a word. Duhhhh [ Tuesday, October 25, 2005 12:48: Message edited by: Marlenny ] Posts: 1035 | Registered: Friday, April 1 2005 08:00 |

I have noticed, from looking at posted A4 screenshots, the characters are not named. Such as in the pic-link below. Are there names? Yes, there are names. No, they aren't displayed by character portraits. If you give all your characters the same graphics, you'll be confused. —Alorael, who supposes this is slightly less problematic if you make all your characters identical. He does not recommend any such course of action. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Actually, I find that most alt. rock bands (at least ones I listen to) adapt to the rhythm of combat rather easily. In fact, the song "Get in or Get Out" (by the band Hot Hot Heat) seems almost tailor-made for people crazy enough to live in Avernum: "Ugly or pretty, it's still my city Make up your mind and get in or get out" -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. The Exile 1 music sounds like Bach. =D What you want for combat is Shostakovich's 8th symphony. *nods wisely* Or The Gadfly Suite. -------------------- A C, an E flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi. The music from Exile 1 is Bach. —Alorael, who has found that Brandenburg Concertos go well with slithzerikai. Mozart, however, has more of a chitrach touch. Dvo?ák provides the perfect ambience for a meeting with the vahnatai (New World indeed!). Telemann and Tallis go best with nephilim, and wandering the civilized areas of Avernum is best accompanied with the more civilized pieces of Vivaldi (the surface is more of a Haydn area). There is nothing strange about this passage. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

*giggles* Romantic, adventurous-sounding music is always good. Like Sibelius. Finlandia makes good fantasy game music. Good "And the intrepid hero has slain the evil, er, whatever it was this time!" music. ^^ So does the Finale from the 2nd symphony. Mahler's first symphony is good for that too. -------------------- A C, an E flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi. Ambrin runs up to them and says, "Hey, look! It's the Triad!" *dies laughing* Or Debussy! Afternoon of a Faun, En Bateau, and The Girl with the Flaxen Hair are great fantasy soundtrack-ish things. They're also totally awesome and peerless per se, obviously. =P -------------------- A C, an E flat, and a G walk into the Tower of the Magi. Ambrin runs up to them and says, "Hey, look! Actually, now that I think of it, the perfect dungeon-storming song is AC/DC's "Back in Black". It just has to be a rather short dungeon with lots of things to kill. (Post #500!
