Avernum IV, eh? I'm surprised. I thought that was what B.O.A was for, to continue the story after Avernum III. I think Jeff should of just left it off, that way we can continue what we think will happen in B.O.A. If it does come out, I probably won't be able to play it due to me working so much that I can't get into games anymore, but I will try give it a try. It could be good, but then again, if something was left off good, then we should just leave it that way.

SupaNik, you should read the whole thread - I already replied to Kelandon's statement and said that it is wrong.

It would be nice if you said what it is, not what it's not, though.

NDA, That reminds of DNA.

Sorry. stupid comment.

Anyway, my view on Avernum 4 is gradually improving. Although I still don't like the idea of it having the Geneforge graphics, I would like to se it, and the story looks good to me.

Perhaps. But what it actually stands for is Non-Disclosure Agreement.

*slight topic resurrection, slight pain*

So I'm just hoping he'll make it into an Exile version as well?

And also that it's a big huge Vahnatai-slaying fest. Just because I've hated them after reading Drakey's theory…and because they're evil.

Don't ask about the hatred, it's just irrational and random. Sort of.

Exile: Unlikely bordering on unthinkable. Exile is the past. Shiny new engines are the future, for better or for worse. Some love for BoE would be even better.

Vahnatai: Please, no. A3 has enough vahnatai carnage fun.

—ALorael, who would rather face a plague of goblins. Those goblins can be deadly, you know.

This just in: Avernum 4 more fun than BoA.

Coming from someone who thinks that the best BoA scenario yet released is Babysitting, that statement is less convincing.

Probably the new game engine itself is more fun. Or did you mean it's more fun than some of the scenarios yet to be made too?

Quite true, except for the statements "Exile is the past" and "A3 has enough vahnatai carnage fun." (Though I only speak from the perspective of E3, and I have yet to beat it, as I only got teh full version a few weeks ago, and all I know about the end is that you kill Vahnatai in your quest to nail Rentar Ihrno.) One mission of killing Vahnatai (or two, or three) is definately not enough to satisfy the bloodlust of the Church of Plah. And your former false statement pegs you as a HERETIC! :P

EDIT: Wow, this is a horrible structure for a post, I can do much better! I'll do it tomorrow.

EDITx2: Slight clarity editing to preserve the prestige that I never had.

I haven't even played Babysitting.

Yes, the engine is much better, and the game is more fun too.

I swear you said that somewhere. The Lyceum, possibly, because I can't find it here.

In X2 I'm pretty sure you can get never ending Vahnataian(sp?) spawn, as long as you don't complete the ritual in Avis. I would agree though, the Vahnatai haven't been exploited for every last shred of potential bloody slaughter, but what has been done is enough. The head honcho lassy is(n't) dead, and if she had disciples, they could be dealt with in the time between A3 and A4. (Much like the bigger part of the war between the Empire and the cavelings isn't actually dealt with in X2, but is resolved by the time of X3.) Too bad the surface seems likely to be left out of this game. The bright green of computer grass was lovely compared to the gloomy blue of the cave floor.

Edit: Ah shoot, now I feel stupid. This is what comes of trying to discuss something you haven't played in quite a while. Perhaps she is discredited with her clan?

Rentar-Ihrno is very much still alive at the end of A3, and I will be very disappointed if she doesn't appear. I'll be even more disappointed if she's the big villain, but she's important enough to Avernum that she deserves a cameo.

—Alorael, who meant that Exile is the past in Spiderweb's plans. Don't expect Jeff to backtrack. Ever. Even as far as fixing bugs in Blades.

I picture a highly gratifying intro mission for Avernum 4 in the flavor of those "wrap up loose end" intros from a James Bond movie.

At the beginning of Avernum 4 you slip in and assassinate Rentar-Ihrno and level Ghikra with quickfire (originally ironically obtained from Rentar). At this point, the Vahnatai are so weary of their own irksome existence that they all go into a new Resting during which an unfortunate cave-quake shatters every last resting crystal, thereafter sparing the once fantasy-focused world of Avernum from any more ridiculous intrusions by sci-fi aliens, factories, and lasers.

Is it too much to hope for?

I don't hate them THAT much. And why wipe out Ghirka?

Killing Rentar as a sidequest isn't such a bad idea, though not something that should be an early mission. Vahnatai, as dead as some of them should be, aren't weaklings.

It could be set up as a cut-scene intro using high-level PC's as if from the end of Avernum 3. All the better if I didn't actually have to play another moment involving Vahnatai.

Fools! The Vahnatai should not be eradicated, they should become PCs! Go kill off some of those blasted ogre mages with their demon-happy magic.

Demonic magic is the wave of the future!

Would having Summon Imps as a low-level mage spell be too much to hope for? I like Imps. They cast spells from a sensible distance, and can handle minor enemies at melee ranges.

Sadly, yes, but still, I love the idea.

Okay, maybe not, but the Vahnatai are way too overpowered in my eyes - and they make no sense. In Exile/Avernum 2 they claim to be natives of the caves, but In the following installment some retract this claim. Rotten 'Shroom eatin,' robe-wearin,' yoga-mongers...

I -can- however, see them embroiled in some devastating civil war- After all, the Vahnatai of Avernum aren't the only "tribe" out there.

Let's face it, they really need to be taken down a peg.

If we accept Drakefyre's theory on Vahnatai creationism, it would make sense that they're stronger magically than humans, etc. I find no reason to not believe Drakey's theory.

I'd still like to smash some alien head, though. EDIT: Just the evil ones.
