I'm really surprised to not see any posts about this at all today but...

...for anyone concerned, NDA's for beta testing Avernum 4 have been going out today.

Perhaps you meant to quote spy.there?

I did not.

Well, they're "hiding" messages in the posts through the use of bold letters.

I agree that it's getting a little annoying at this point, having turned into more of a posting game than honest speculation. Guys, if you have something to say, say what you mean -- the bold-letter thing got old a couple of pages ago.

Rentar-Ihrno, according to popular belief and quite possibly game canon, is female. And since she did not die in the confrontation in A3, and Vahnatai very rarely die of old age, what reason is there to make her an "exiled" Crystal Soul similar to Casser-Bok?

Rentar-Ihrno always gets feminine pronouns in Exile and Avernum.

All the other Crystal Souls are Boks, so Rentar-Ihrno isn't even in the proper category for crystallization. She's also not an isolated rogue like Delrin-Bok and Casser-Bok, and there's no insanity to her malevolence.

—Alorael, who can't remember now whether Casser was the only flawed Crystal Soul and Delrin was just lonely or if both of them weren't quite right in the upper pointy bit any more.

Somehow I get the feeling that this cryptic "Play Za-Khazi Run" is some sort of hidden message Drakey is trying to convey. Maybe he's bound by the NDA but this is some sort of subtle way of telling us about Avernum 4? He can't be actually recommending it — he rated the BoE and BoA versions 4 and 5.7 respectively on the Lyceum.

Perhaps A4 deals with the slith war or something? Or maybe the plagues of monsters mentioned in the A4 description are used in ZKR? What about those monsters Morog sends you to kill? Are they connected?

He hinted, on an earlier page, that the sliths would play a significant role. The Za-Khazi run is about a big war with the sliths.

Perhaps he is commenting upon my lack of knowledge of Casser-Bok, although in point of fact I commented on my lack of knowledge on Delrin-Bok.

—Alorael, who feels no urge to replay ZKR in any case.

I did?

Za-Khazi Run has answers about Micah and Crystal Souls.

Which answers? Apparently I played it half-asleep, cause I didn't get any answers, just some really frustrating hours, caused by a damn time limit.

In terms of design, Avernum 4 doesn't have zones. It is all one gigantic, seamless gameworld. This has given us a lot of freedom. The world feels a lot more natural. You can find fishing huts and farms scattered about, and people to talk to hidden in remote caves. And it's possible to have huge, epic dungeons that stretch for a loooong way.

Might I inquire as to the purpose of that quote Drakey? If it is for promotional purposes, it does have a nice effect.

Ah. In my opinion that it sounds like a nice difference. Have those of you testing it found it so?

I'm really surprised how much more "Avernum" the screenshots on RPG Vault look with the combat grid under them.

Here's hoping that eventually the Geneforge Guardian graphic will bite the dust in favor of a more normal-looking human.

Alex—I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't been given access to the beta test yet. I think Jeff may be waiting for the majority of the NDA's to come in and send out access all at once. Not sure though, since I haven't done this before.

I am similarly waiting for access to the beta. I wonder when it'll become available...
