I really don't see what's the problem with the mighty mouse (except the scroll ball getting dirty and not responding). It always works great, and I have no problem whatsoever with right clikc. Almost all my friends do, and I don't know why. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. quote:Out of curiosity, why are you using the eMac for Mac stuff? Why not the Macbook? Synergy: seconded, though I must say that I completely abandoned OS9 when I got my OS10.4 iMac. I thought I'd be using the older one for some old games and such, but it appeared that actually most of the programs I used on OS9, have replacement that usually is just as good or even better. What I do play from time to time is Dark Castle and Beyong Dark Castle. However, not that Return to Dark castle is out, I may abandon those. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. quote:Umhmmm, and I totally agree with almost every word you say. Almost every word: I don't claim to have mad evasion skills: I'm saying that I know how to fly and the fact that I'm feline makes me more nimble. That doesn't mean that I can't be hit, it means that I'm harder to hit. And sure, I've been perfectly unreasonable in my deathmatch posts, so I'm not asking others to always be in theirs. Let's just, ya know, keep this fun, and stop complaining about things that can be done, that can not be done and all that. Slarty and Jewels are the judges, they'll think of a good outcome for every match. They look at what we post and they'll see for themselves if something is right, wrong, or idiotic. With all due respect, but if I were to adress misconceptions in fights in which I was starring, I'd have be busy for days writing posts to say what is wrong about certain battle desciptions. Let me give an example: quote:I my own post I clearly stated I'd be too fast, being feline and understanding techniques of flight, to be hit by the death ray. Do people care? Nay. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Co-designed with Nikki: El Presidente. Give us your drek! 1) Alec vs Nemesis It's a dark and rainy day. Fortunately, Nemesis manages to summon a roof and a lamp, so the match can begin. nemesis also summons some strange beasts that look like fluffy turtles. Alec isn't really intimidated by that and insults the beasts, and Nemesis. Fortunately, this doesn't weaken he beasts' morale, and Nemesis stays unharmed. Now Nemesis starts to think. To think about alot, and while he does that, Alec charges with his scimitar, but nemesis quickly summons a brick wall, onto which Alec smacks and hurts himself pretty badly. After a few minutes, Alec dies from his wounds, giving Nemesis the victory. 2) Saunders vs Jewel ( :P ) Jewels came prepared for this fight: she made a walkthrough the last evening before the match, detailing the steps she'll have to undertake. Saunders has fluffy turtles, who immediatly start their descent on Jewels, but hail the walktrhough! Jewels knew this was coming and evades them, smothering them in elements of the SW periodic table. Next, the walkthrough says, be a parent, and so Jewels does. She comes to Saunders, the finger up, and starts lecturing Saunders, who in her turn smothers jewels with motherly love. Jewels, a bit taken aback, now invites Saunders for a beer, and Saunders thus falls in jewels little trap. Soon she is drunk, and can't stand anymore. She falls on the ground, giving Jewels the victory. 3) Nicothodes vs Arancaytar The magic flute against the cello. Right... Cello wins that. Besides, computers can't win from music, and stabbing and fatal cuteness works better than bacon drop. Nicothodes 4) ME vs Dinti Right. With knowledge of biology, I know the weaknesses of the human race. problem is, that most of these weaknesses are somehow compromised by either armor or some other item. So, what else is there to do when there's not much hope? Throw vegetables and use your skill of flight. Since lately I have been playing a lot of Flight Simulator, I've gotten a lot better at this flight thing, enabling me to much better manoevre in the air. Also, i can land myself automatically by using the autopilot and performing an ILS landing. So, the death ray won't be able to hit me, since I can simply evade that. I don't know what the cloning machine is good for, and the legion of terror (I guess) can't fly. But how to win from the guidebook? Well, I simply throw vegetables at it and I hope it gets so dirty that it's beyond comprehension. Dintiradan, on the other hand, simply evades the vegetables, and uses his summoning machine to summon some fliying creaturs, which I succesfully vegetablize with help of the Chicken gods. these same Chicken Gods enable me to get hold of the evil overlord guidebook, which Dinti has lost when hit by a vegetable. So eventually, because this is getting very long and I'm losing patience, Thralni wins with his feline swiftness, vegetables and Chicken God help. 5) Vlish vs Alo With daze, Vlish makes it hard for Alo to aim. However, Alo sues skribbane to counter that problem. Vlish does daze again, now with a slight terror in it, and Alo drinks more skribbane. This cna't go on for that long, since Alo doesn't have an infinite stock, and eventually dies of an overdose. Vlish wins. 6) Tyran vs *I Yeah... SV just pwns SW, that's clear all right. Besides, he has me and Nikki and Eph and Nioca and Nem and other SV members as allies, so Stareye mustn give victory to Tyranicus. 7) Ephesos vs Goldenking Priest against rogue. What can I say? It's prettiness against plot twists. What we have learned, though, is that Goldenking is supposed to win in the end, but in this case, we'll have to see about that. So, first of all, Eph has crickets. Crickets are little pesky animals that are very irritating in large numbers. They also make irritating chirping noises, that can drive you mad. Goldenking has a golden gun, though. So, goodbye crickets. For a short time, though, because there are so many, that Goldenking obviously can't get rid of them all with just one gun. So in the end Ephesos wins. 8) Alex vs Salmon Trees give you the time to think, to come to peace with your nature. Salmon is therefor completely at peace when the match begins. Alex immedtaily draws some stick figures: Salmon sitting beneath a tree saying "god, I wish I liked bacon", which salmon thinks is very funny. While Salmon laughs, Alex summons some stick figurs, who begin to thomp salmon. Using a shovel, Salmon "kills" them, and then heads over to Alex. With a well-placed "thump", Alex dies and Salmon wins. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Whether I play as a male or a female is mostly determined by the amount of characters I play. For example, in Avernum games, where there is a large group, I sometimes have females. When I play with a single character though, it'll be a male, and never female, and the reason for this is utterly simple. It is not because I'm a sexist, not because I hate females or something of that kind, it has to do with what I see as "normal". I'm male, so when I play a game in which I play a sole person, I want it to be male because I am male. When it's a group it doesn't matter to me that much since it's a group: when playing with a group I don't get really emotionally involved with the characters; much less anyway than when I'd play with only one character (like in just about any FPS). It may be a difficult thing for people to understand, but that's just the way it is and there's nothing that'll change me on that respect. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. So anyway, I've looking into both XP and Windows, and my conclusions are as follows: All reviews I read say the same: "if you don't really need Vista, stick with XP." and "Vista SP1 comes with its own problems". Besides, I saw that some software I'd want to run (some payware Flight Simulator aircrafts) don't have Vista patches, so I think I'll keep with XP for now. Seems a lot simpeler... -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Co-designed with Nikki: El Presidente. Wouldn't SW be a sad community if it can't handle these sort of topics in a nice manner? This is gonna be hard. Now let me see... 1 Alorael vs The Silent Assasin Our lordship of skribbane has take not one, but two skribbane potions, making him stronger and more alert. However, if you can't see your target, can't hear your target, this is of no use. The Silent Assasin quickly gets round Alorael's back and while he creeps in his direction, suddenly a wild flash of light throws him to the ground: the might of RW is not to be underestimated! Winner: Alorael. 2 The almighty doer of stuff vs Arancaytar As soon as the match starts, The doer of stuff send his inspector to inspect things and see if they can come up with a succesfull tactic for beating Arancaytar. In the mean time, The doer of stuff uses his almighty nose to punch and hurt Aran, with some succes. However, Aran uses the magic flut to tone the nose down and seduce the inspectors, who now tell Aran about all Doer's weak spots. With a huge piece of bacon, Aran tries to squash the doer of stuff, but just on time, the doer blow his nose in it and send it back to Aran, who is squashed under his own bacon. Winner: The doer of stuff. 3 Goldenking vs Drakefyre Not only is Drakefyre older and therefor wiser, he also has the power of the waveblade on his side. Using Divine wrrior on himself, he gets hardy and a tough opponent, who easily defeats Goldenking with Aracane Blow the moment the match starts. Winner: Drakefyre 4 Ash Lael vs Dintiradan Music is best. Always. nothing better than music. There is just one problem: Dinti here is an evil overlord. BUT! Ash is older and wiser and has endured much, he knows the evil overlord guidebook by heart and knows what Dinti will do. Winner: Ash lael. 5 Nemesis vs Emp Tullegolar Tullegolar tickles Nem with his big feather, and laughing, nem falls to the ground. Winner: Tullegolar. 6 Zeviz vs Stareye Using his antmatter machine, Stareye creates an anti Zeviz. now's the time to wait till the antiZeviz gets to the real Zeviz and touches him. then they're both gone. In the mean time, Zeviz tries to dodge the antiZeviz with a bolt of fire, but to no avail. Winner: Stareye. 7 Student of Trinity vs Salmon What, RW and physics against forestry? That sounds weird at first, but then salmon plants trees around SoT, that SoT can barely move. Salmon does that in such a speed, that within seconds, a forest is planted around SoT, who can't escape. But there comes the mighty hand of RW, who starts to remove the trees, and in five minutes, all trees are gone again. So Salmon plants some more trees, and RW removes them. this goes on for some time, but not for eternity: Salmon gets tired, RW not. When the time has come, SoT throws rocks at Salmon. Winner: Student of Trinity 8 Jewels vs TM TM starts a barrage of insults, but Jewels can cope with that all to well. TM then does it himself: he bans himself, while philosophizing about uncomprehensible stuff, including the fall of the world as we know it. Winner: Jewels. DISCLAIMER: Anything I say in this post is not to be taken seriously. If I let you lose, it doesn't mean I don't like you, it only means it was funnier to let the other one win, either because the match'd be funnier, or it'd be a surprise to let that one win. quote:Same here, basically. I use Windows XP because I have to for some school stuff (and because Flight Simulator just doesn't work on OS X). Now that we're on the topic, I want to ask a question. See, I'll have to get myself a new laptop in the summer. now that's not a problem, i already made my mind up: it'll be a Macbook Pro. Bow here is the problem: next to OS X, I'll have to have a partition with Windows. Should it be Vista or XP? The only advantage I could find in using Vista is DirectX 10. For the rest most reviews were quite bad and said something like "if you don't really need it, XP will do fine". I want to be able to run games that may perform a lot better using DirectX 10, but is it worth it? Anybody got advice? -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Co-designed with Nikki: El Presidente. Oh, good, that means that when i get my Macbook pro I wouldn't have to fuss about security updates... That's good. I guess that there's no sign of DX10, though, right? Shame. can't blame them, though... It'd be stupid to include it in XP. EDIT: Wrong OS... Thanks and happy Passover to all of you who celebrate it. We had guests this time round, and I must say it was quite funny: in our house we don't really abide by the rules. Ever few pages we stopped and my mother asked if we are still doing things correctly, or did we miss something? But it's every year like that, and I don't mind. It makes stuff nicer. And let's be honest here, we do it more for the food than the Hagadah. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. He said it in some post some time ago, something along the lines of: "We want people to enjoy our games for as long as possible, so therefor we'll remake the Avernum trilogy using the new Avernum engine." It's basically for the same reasons he remade nethergate: the game was liked, and couldn't be run on newer macs. He's going to do the same with Avernum now. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape.
