last.fm, for the uninformed, is a huge aggregator that profiles your musical preferences. By installing a plugin available for several media players, you can send it information about all music you listen to, which it will then aggregate into charts.

Oh, right, privacy. Not much of that, no. I don't mind everyone knowing when I listen to the Soviet National Anthem and The Lumberjack Song, but your mileage may vary.

A few months ago, after Nikki, Thralni and I had found each others' profiles, we had enough for a Spiderweb group (3 members minimum). After being advertised on Shadow Vale, it's grown to 8 people, so we're all wondering if any more last.fm users are lurking in here. Feel free to join!

http://www.last.fm/group/Spiderweb

(Also, feel free to use this topic to plug any other presences of Spiderweb on other social networks.)

I finally can download the downloader! Yay!

In terms of other networks, the Facebook Group somehow still exists.

I'm sure someone will throw up the KoL info and that one mapping.

Two notes:

1) On Last.fm, there is an option to delete individual tracks from your charts, up to two weeks after it is played. So if you want to hide the fact you own Lindsey Lohan's single, you can. Also, I have set iTunes to collect songs I listen to, and WMP not to, so there are ways around it. And if you really want to, you can temporarily turn off the whole thing for a while.

2) Anybody in the Kingdom of Loathing, and of high enough level to join a clan (i.e. three), apply to the the clan "The Spiderwebbers", or else message a clannie and we'll white-list you.

If memory serves correct, yeah.

And it names you as map admin there, apparently, so... :P

I think so, yeah. This would mark the second time I've plugged it despite not even being a member. (Edit: Slow writer. This one in response to Aran.)

I added two users, macdude22 and grinnelltech, they should effectively make it impossible for last.fm to classify the group. macdude22 is my personal account and grinnelltech is last.fm running on a music box in my tech room.

Eh. I heard they were similar to what I already listen to, so I figured I'd sample some songs. As yet, there's one I've heard. But that's all I'm likely to use last.fm for, since iTunes pretty much does it for me.

I'm really enjoying the Spiderwebbers clan on Kingdom of Loathing. :)

Oh, and I am part of the Facebook group...doing my bit to keep it alive!

By the way, anyone who wants to add me as a friend on facebook feel free. It would be nice to have a friend that likes Spiderweb Software games. Just add a message to the request so that I know you're not a random stalker. :P

I joined. Now everyone can see my questionable taste in poorly-labeled music.

Also, someone posing as Richard White wants to join the kol clan.

So sorry for my ignorance, but I've seen Richard White's name a lot...who is he?

Remember, I am new to the Spiderweb community (not new to the games though :) )

Nikki, thanks for the friend request on Facebook!

Richard White made Galactic Core. It's a space simulation for Macintosh. He also made Lost Souls and Ocean Bound.

Fans occasionally credit him, in spirit, with Homeland, but Homeland is not as good by far, it is for PC, and Richard White had nothing to do with its conception. Richard White did write several books about the Department of Homeland Security, but that's probably a different Dick.

Nevertheless, Homeland was unofficially included when long ago the Galactic Core forum (its former name evidenced by this topic among others) became the Richard White Games forum. That was around the summer of 2004, but my PPP2 archive of GC/RWG is completely lost, so I have nothing of that period.

GC/RWG was Spiderweb's 13th forum, and it was a place of spam, laughter and merriment. Well, of spam. For a brief time, the Galactic Core Historical Society held humorous picture contests in it. Alorael moderated the forum with the required extreme prejudice. Its two greatest highlights, in my opinion, was one of the longest running topics and also a parody in song.

GC/RWG was closed last year. Unlike Misc, you can look at some of the archives. The spam is of a lower grade than Misc. But as with Misc, you had to have been there to understand.

Except that Icshi laid out some details succinctly.

I always assumed he wrote them with his hands, actually.

On a related note, does anyone know if the Scenario Judging forum still open? I can't enter it because I wasn't a judge, but I would still like to know.

Why would it matter? The forum exists, and those who were allowed to post are still able to do so, but the contents have been purged.
