On the very first dialogue node, there should be an option that reads,
quote:
"A cow! That is the source of fresh milk! I must milk this beast!"
Now, if you aren't getting this message, then something is messed up with the scenario somehow. To fix it, go to the Blades of Avernum Character editor on the main menu, load the party, go to advanced, and select Add Special Item from the list that appears. In the first dialog box that appears after that, type "5" (without quotes), and then type "1" in the second dialog box that appears (again, without quotes). Then go back to the wizard.

AMEND: I turned off ratings a while ago. Mainly just because I could.

There are two solutions. The first is to get a bucket, some forage, and then try to milk the cow. There should be a bucket in the shed near the cow, and the forage can be gathered in the wheat-looking field near the cow (it's a special encounter; you either have to step in the field or search it, I can't remember which).

The second, assuming you have the latest version of RA, is to whack the cow on the head, and then return to the wizard.

If you don't want tricky puzzles, I suggest Tale from the Tabard Inn as your next scenario from the top scenarios.

EDIT: Tales from Terabithia is not a known scenario. :)

This was originally going to be a IMAGE(http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p188/Nioca/Emoticons/topicnecromancy.gif) on the Ep. 5 thread, but that's been locked again. Any ETA on the next chapter? Or just any word on the Episode's status?

Corrupt shapers? in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

I hadn't noticed, mainly because I never met Yngrid in my playthroughs. Alwan would never take canisters, though. More than likely, the other canister was smashed in a way other than by its use. But this is actually proof that canisters and the Geneforge need to be eradicated. They're so addictive that even highly-disciplined shapers who've never even had one can be allured by their power. And that's a very, very bad thing.

NICOTHODES VS. ARANCAYTAR

THRALNI VS. DINTIRADAN

DELICIOUS VLISH VS. ALORAEL
This comes down to one simple problem. Delicious Vlish's attacks are useless at range against Alorael due to Alorael's skribbane consumption, meaning that DV's first attack of Daze or Terror is out. DV is also a glass cannon creation, meaning that a single powerful blow is enough to turn him into a tasty mammal treat. Alorael's turn? A shot with the rifle, which has been generally shown to be an insta-kill against almost anything. Unlike TSA, Vlish lacks stealth. In conclusion, half of me thinks that, when the bullet hits, Vlish will go buzzing around the arena like a deflating balloon. Whether or not that happens, though, ALORAEL had this one from the word go.

Assuming, of course, that the two don't meet. If they do, the resulting matter/anti-matter explosion would annihilate them, the arena audience, the SW forums, its satellites, and generally anything else within a 100,000 mile radius.

TYRANICUS VS. STAREYE
N/A

EPHESOS VS. GOLDENKING
This is extraordinarily tricky, and depends solely on who gets initiative. If Ephesos gets the first shot, he'll fire off Retribution, which Goldenking will follow up with Aura of Flames. However, it then goes back to Ephesos, who then casts a finishing Retribution. If Goldenking gets initiative, it'll be Aura of Flames. Ephesos will heal, only to get hit again. And again. Even if he decided to go with Retribution, it'd wind up leaving him primed for a kill shot. Thus, Ephesos is stuck perpetually healing himself. Goldenking will eventually run out of SP, but he'll switch to the gun, and so the process continues. Eventually, Ephesos runs out of SP, meaning no more Retribution or Healing. No amount of luck can save him now.

So, as I said, it depends on who gets initiative. And that's where GOLDENKING rises to the occasion. When it comes to speed, rogues beat priests.

ARCHMAGE ALEX VS. SALMON
N/A

I'll be adding the N/A matches later. These ones are tricky!

Yes. It looks something like this:
condition = (get_flag([flag]) == [value]) && (get_flag([flag]) == [value]);And this could be expanded further too.

The Hobbit in General

I actually did not like LotR. The Hobbit is the only one I actually liked, and that's because it moved along at a decent pace. But the trilogy... for me, it just moved way too slowly for me to enjoy. It was, in short, mind-numbingly boring.

As for the movies, I only saw Fellowship of the Ring, and I actually fell asleep halfway through. So I don't care for LotR in either format, it seems.

---------------------
I'm sure LotR fans will be outraged at me calling LotR boring. So I'll save us all some time here and hurl some insults at myself. I'm an illiterate imbecile who has no taste and no respect for classics such as LotR.

There. Feel better, LotR fans?

On a side note, I wonder if the CoC's Harassment clause applies to oneself. Is throwing degrading comments at yourself a banning offense?

Alas. It appears that Ep. 6 has gone the way of Discord. :(

--------------------
In brighter news, it appears that Drakefyre is off the hook for RiB. Unless Nikki makes the radical decision to release Discord. Then I suppose RiB will return to being the default in-joke for oldbies and educated newbies.

Of course, then Drakefyre might decide to release RiB. But that would also entail the Fluffy Turtles giving back sanity, UBB stabilizing, and Richard White being forced into a single point in time. And I just don't see that happening.

Huh. UBB really does work in mysterious ways.

--------------------
I've never really believed in UBB before this time. But if this thing can retcon the decisions of the mighty Jeff Vogel himself, thought really needs to be given to the idea of either worshiping UBB, or running in utter terror.

Or maybe UBB is Richard White.

Node 3 and 21 - When you use a code tag, you put all of the code you want the node to execute in a single tag. This is probably what's causing the problem.

Node 1; text 2 - Questions end with a question mark.

EDIT: Dang. Beaten to it.

The forums are fairly flexible. There's no harm in posting the script, at any rate, so just go ahead and post it. Otherwise, you could wind up staring at the same piece of code for hours and never figure out what the problem is. Believe me; I've been there.

It could be any number of things. Unfortunately, without the related code, I can only guess at what the problem is. More than likely, you're either forgetting to set a flag somewhere, or you are also using the flag for something else.

You don't open the application itself. First, put Alint in your scenario's folder. Next, find the file path for the scenario folder. More than likely, it's either
c:\Program Files\Blades of Avernum\Blades of Avernum Scenarios\[name of your scenario's folder]
OR
c:\Program Files\Blades of Avernum\Data\[name of your scenario's folder]
But it depends on where you put BoA. Next, open up your computer's Command Prompt, and type (without quotes), "cd [your scenario's folder file path]". So in the previous example, you'd type this
cd c:\Program Files\Blades of Avernum\Blades of Avernum Scenarios\[name of your scenario's folder]The prompt should have then printed a new line of text with the file path you specified. Now, simply type:
alint [script to test].txtAnd it'll check the script for bugs.

Deathmatch Tournament -- Round Two, Part Two in General

Match #1 (Alorael vs. The Silent Assassin) - Well, this is a tricky one. On one hand, The Silent one has a severe disadvantage; his attacks are limited to melee or short-range, while Alorael can hit from long-range. On the other hand, a rifle requires a couple moments to aim before he can fire, unless he just starts indiscriminately firing shots. Additionally, the aiming part requires him to not move, making him a sitting duck (again, assuming he doesn't fire indiscriminately) Thus, without the advantage of surprise, Alorael is in a sticky situation. I imagine the Silent Assassin is nimble enough to avoid just taking a shot, and is capable of dealing with Alorael in a melee fight, meaning that, if Alorael doesn't take him down before his adversary closes (or before his ammunition runs out), Alorael is done for. And I think Alorael just can't pull it off.
WINNER: The Silent Assassin

Match #2 (The Almighty Doer of Stuff vs. Arancaytar) - Despite Aran's considerable statistical power, one can't help but notice that hardly any of it has worthwhile offensive punch (while one might claim that editing is a pretty effective attack, don't forget that the rules of the deathmatch void it). Fact is, the only way to bring down an opponent in the deathmatch is to have some sort of offensive ability. All Aran really has in that department is a mail bag. And that's going to take a little too long to bring ADoS down.
WINNER: The Almighty Doer of Stuff

Match #3 (Goldenking vs. Drakefyre) - Drakefyre has Divine Warrior. No matter what Goldenking throws at him, nothing can trounce the invulnerability granted by Divine Warrior. So unless Drakefyre makes the brain-dead move of not using Divine Warrior on first move, he's got the match. And Drakefyre doesn't look brain-dead. Or maybe he is; he switched to the Anama, meaning that his spells are void. Coupled with Goldenking's Aura of Flames...
WINNER: Goldenking

Match #4 (Ash Lael vs. Dintiradan) - Dintiradan's insane levels of firepower completely overwhelm Ash Lael. Plain and simple. Even if Ash did multiply into several copies, Dintiradan has the summoning machine.
WINNER: Dintiradan

Match #5 (Nemesis vs. Emperor Tullegolar) - Fortunately for Nemesis, Dainslaifs equal ranged attack. Unfortunately for Nemesis, Tullegolar is a master in combat. And whilst the Tullegolite propaganda is lost on Nemesis, that slith spear is not.
WINNER: Emperor Tullegolar

Match #6 (Zeviz vs. Stareye) - Whilst Zeviz can get off a couple of really nasty shots, this match was already decided. For him, there's just no competing with Stareye.
WINNER: Stareye

Match #7 (Student of Trinity vs. Salmon) - Versus a razor, I doubt the fishing pole will be of much use. I just don't see Salmon winning this match.
WINNER: Student of Trinity

Match #8 (Jewels vs. Terror's Martyr) - ...Err... Let's just fast-forward to the conclusion, shall we?
WINNER: Terror's Martyr
