Given the toll that such a pandemic might take on the world, as one of its richest nations, we should be investing in biomedical research. I'm not sure what exactly the goal of that would be...perhaps on new ways to produce vaccines in large amounts cheaply and quickly. Unfortunately, there is no way to prepare this vaccine ahead of time, as we don't know the exact form of the virus.

Quarantine plans would also be nice.

Has anyone figured out how to get to that one cache that is surrounded by stalagmites in this general location? This is the one north a bit from the ruins in which the fifth test is located. Perhaps there is a way from the back?

Knowledge Brew Recipe??? in Avernum 4

In Avernum 4, you have to find people who make potions to order. The potion brewers don't charge anything except the herbs required to make the potions.

The recipe requires one of each herb (graymold, mandrake, energetic, spiritual, and healing herbs) and this guy makes knowledge brews, not elixirs, so they will give you 2 skill points each.

The person who is able to make knowledge brews is

After Sleater has marked you so that you can break through the defenses of the cauldron undead, he has no further use. Not unless talking to him after you clear the center of the Spiral has some effect.

I got the link parts working. Why is Windows so horrible about supplying convenient environment variables (like PWD) ? ugggg

There must be somewhere in the *.html files that controls the default path tag (http://www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php) when it is not specified in an absolute sense in the file.

Another problem is that getting it to work for Macs is going to be a problem, because I use windows.

About the part concerning the forced capitalization of html tags, for which specific browsers is this a problem?

Perhaps use a strong text-manipulating scripting language such as Perl? Perl is extremely powerful because it allows you to select what you replace within the regular expression. Give me a specific sample of what you are trying to do, and I'll try to cook something up. You could go here to learn yourself if you like:

Or you could just lower the temperature sufficiently. Oh, but wait, you run into that nasty little phase change type called sublimation at some point. :mad:

Hmmmm, mustagacheed lanyo chejetna, gourdesh nidi! Hot Hot Hot lamb curry over basmati rrrrice!

Ok now that that is out of the way....

For the answer to the water spout from a tank problem...

Once you have formulated the projectile equation, it is a trivial matter to find the distance in question. So what paramter is missing from the equation?

I am assuming that the leak is small enough that it does not drastically change the level of the water in the vessel, and large enough that wierd fluid viscosity effects (turbulence) and air resistance don't effect the stream too much. Also I am assuming that the leak is perfectly horizontal.

Treat the water like a projectile...need to know initial velocity horizontally. Is there any horizontal acceleration? No, not once the water has left the vessel. So what should be the value of the initial velocity....Hmmm...The pressure of the water column above the leak is..Well we don't need to take into account atmospheric pressure, as the leak and the top of the water level are both subject to it. So it is just the pressure of the water column.

Let rho be the density of water, V be the total volume. The rho*V = the mass of the water. Weight of the water = rho*V*g (g = gravitational acceleration approximate value). The pressure that the water exerts is rho*V*g/A. Now what is the relationship between V and A? If A is the cross sectional area of an arbitrary column then A*h = V, where h is the hieght of the column. So the pressure now becomes rho*g*h.

So rho = 1 g/cm^3 for water at stp, g = 9.81m/s^2, and h = 65 cm. rho*g*h = 65 g/cm^2 * 981 cm/s^2 = 63765 g/(cm*s^2). Ok great, now how to translate this into initial velocity is a feat beyond me at the moment.

Ok, I cheated and looked up Bernoulli's equation.
It works out that the velocity of the water leaving the tank is (2*g*h)^0.5. Neat.

So now I want to know how long it takes for the water to hit the ground from 75 cm. Zero initial vertical velocity so:

75 = 0.5*g*t^2.
t = (150/g)^0.5 = 0.391 seconds.

The water travels (2*g*h)^0.5 * 0.391 cm horizontally before it touches the ground, or about 140 cm..hmmm that seems wrong. Oh well.

There should be a set of jumpers on your motherboard that control the clock speed. Each jumper corresponds to a different digit/power of ten. Is this a custom system? If not, you could go onto the website of the company that produced it. Though somehow I doubt any of these manufacturers would give information on their sites about how to possibly destroy processors. Honestly, there are enough customer service issues as it is.

I don't know any specific sites, but be careful.
