I'm not sure if this is an appropriate topic to post on this forum, so mods feel free to delete if this is deemed an unacceptable post. IMG today posted a link to basilisk games' official Eshalon: Book 1 page which reveals the first screenshots. Don't know about you, but I'm sort of interested since the early build does bear a resemblance to SW's Avernum games in terms of graphics style. Of course, the Mac version isn't due out until summer and even then nobody really knows how well it plays or what the story and plot are like. Anyone else interested in this title? Thoughts and opinions? http://www.basiliskgames.com/games.htm Posts: 64 | Registered: Tuesday, April 12 2005 07:00 |

It looks like it could be good. Then again, it could be another Homeland. -------------------- "You're drinking liquor because you're thirsty? Actually, that looks fairly good, graphics- and style-wise. I might have to give it a look when it comes out... Too bad they didn't really say much about a plot... I mean, honestly: quote:That's just a little bit generic, I mean. If that's all they have to offer in terms of describing their game world, I may pass. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I see what you mean about the graphics style being similar to SW. They really remind me of GF. It looks interesting. I hope they'll have a demo. -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. Join the Dark side. We have cookies. Thanks for posting the link. The influence of the Nethergate and Geneforge engines on the interface is glaringly obvious. It *looks* a bit more awkward, but it's still in alpha, so who knows. I'm a little iffy about the vague plot, too. This could turn out to be a really cool game. Or not. However, it certainly looks more promising than any non-spidweb game has in years. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

The game looks like it was either heavily influenced by Spiderweb or heavily influenced by the influences on Spiderweb. It also suffers moderately from ugly interface. —Alorael, who doesn't like to pass judgement with no details. The skill/attribute system could be taken from Avernum, but it also could be no fun at all. There is no evidence (yet) of a party to go with your protagonist. And the plot remains concealed. Three screenshots aren't much to judge by. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Looks like Avernum 5 to me. Only I'm sure Avernum 5 will be better. Maybe we should try it after we play Avernum 5. -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |

If it's modelled after the Geneforge engine, I think I'll pass. Oh, and am I the only one who opened this topic expecting a novel (because of the Book I)?
