Seriously, though, my suspicion is that the primary cause of behaviour-independent parent-child love is intense social pressure on parents to display behaviour-independent love for children which society deems them to be responsible for. Any negative feelings toward those children are repressed or dismissed as not being the way one "really" feels about one's children, regardless of how common or how strong those negative feelings are relative to the positive ones.
It's intensely sad that this is true, but it is.

Ganzwen was surprised, however, when an adolescent trio of a colorfully-dressed, black-haired boy; a svelte, red-haired girl and a more substantial and swarthy male with spiky hair walked out of the foliage.

"Pikachu, I choose you!"

Ganzwen, whose bluff has been called with lethal force, responded by reaching for the pokéball which held his secret weapon.

"Boy, today is the last day of your training career! Battle Beta, I choose you!"

Battle was joined.

How about, like, making something with a PLOT?

For instance, how hard would it be to make Nethergate, but have it be Aztecs vs. Conquistadors? Or to have ANY sort of game not called "Nethergate" or "A Small Rebellion" in which the PCs are a part of the story? Like, why not have a game in which the player is affected by ANY conflict that has actual meaning? (Geneforge, I'm looking at you. How a mindless drone reacts to libertarian propaganda is not "conflict".)

I mean, JV could make a game in which the party are fighters during eschaton? What about one in which the party is undead and has to find a way to be revived? Or how about a Memento-style game, where the plot is played in reverse? I mean, even within the realm of RPGs, there are way too many possibilities for JV to make a game that both appeals to the combat-heavy sentimentalities of a six-year-old that JV is dead-set convinced that he HAS to appease (ie, "allow for level-building" or "have an easy option and make the plot ignorable) while making a game that will simultaneously be playable to someone over the age of twelve.

Of course, if you make a scenario after a crappy fanfiction by an obsessive board member, you're already well on your way.

The Blessed Mithril Plate is the best armor in BoA (outside of a god party creator or Undead Valley), and only costs 5 mithril (meaning you can get two of them). On the other hand, both swords cost 10 mithril, and they are also incredibly powerful. (Plus, you get one Blessed Mithril Plate from the Tiger Lair anyway.)

Love is overrated and tends to ruin your life.

quote:
Love is a chemical stimulus for reproduction, but that doesn't make it any less real.
Oh, look. An evolutionary psychologist.

See, thing with that is, it sure is nice-- but it's a platitude. Sure, love will trigger chemical reactions in people. Then again, so will tons of things that could not have possibly had a chance to arise from an evolutionary standpoint. Why take care of elders, when their capacity to reproduce has clearly ended years ago? Do we do it on the basis that we ourselves will someday be in that same position? But heck-- in that position, we too will be unable to spread our seeds anymore. So why? Or hell, why did mankind make deities? It has not particularly HELPED speed reproduction along.

I guess what I'm saying is this: Sure, we are who we are because of things that happened to us. Duh. But at the same time, claiming that it is genetic makes no sense, and even if it is, a great number of the behaviors we exhibit (again, assuming that they are genetic in origin) serve no immediate purpose, thereby proving that genetics isn't actually a laser-guided beacon immediately pointing us in the direction of reproductive paradise.

...

As for "true love"-- whatever love is, it's certainly real. People experience it, people talk and write about it, people live and die for it. Ultimately, any and all loves will only be as real as human beings are-- love is well and truly subjective, as it tends to only have any affect whatsoever on the subject: us. Did it come from the environments our ancestors came from? Is it genetic? And what does any of that matter? If you suddenly found out that love was not a metaphysical reality, would you fall into shock and come to some otherworldly realization that all of life is truly directed towards a higher understanding that surpasses all of human interaction which you have been raised and immersed in?

Hardly.

Who was it who posed as a minor at Desp and described her sexual preferences (literally) ad nauseum? Who is it who constantly talks about sex in a board filled with minors? The paedophilia "gag" with me ended, what, 2-3 years ago? With you, it continues, and it continues to prove that you are a miserable, dead-end human being with no redeeming factors, whose only faculties serve the end of infecting the world with your vile waste products, such as your words, thoughts and visual appearance.

Die. Don't try and act cute (because hideous and cute are mutually exclusive, and you undoubtedly fall under the former). Don't try and push this aside as me being playful or stereotypically sardonic. Just die.

So not true. Cars are way too small and offer much too little privacy.

Why?

Do you know how much work a scenario is? How much time? Nevermind one of that size.

And you plan to waste all of this effort on the worthless dweebs on these boards? What is wrong with you?

You have to talk to the blacksmith to get his approval. For no reason.
(Ephesos has admitted fault for this, so don't hold it against him-- but if you hold it against the scenario, well... I won't blink twice over it. ~_~)

EDIT: By the by, a priest would less have the gold necklace, and more the white collar.
