Hail Dikiyoba, and Cthulhu. Iä.

Edit: I don't know what the heck prompted me to post this. I blame exhaustion.

Wow.

In other news, I leave the boards alone for a few days, and this is what happens. Why don't we just ban every member, crash every thread, and be done with it?

Or we could just ban you and tell you that nobody has been posting in your absence.

Shame about the thread. I wish I remembered the easy way of doing that to them. It was.. RC or someone like that, I last remember doing it. Can't remember. Having a memory that doesn't really extend past this morning doesn't help.

RC had a unicode character in his signature that caused one person's browser to crash. There is also a unicode character that reverses the text that follows (until the next paragraph or linebreak, iirc). It was highly fashionable back in the day.

It doesn't work in all browsers.

Oh har har. (Firefox v1.5.0.5)

Suddenly you have a much smaller number of posts...

I think this is really wonderful.

I tested this, and as close as I can tell, it only works with Netscape/Mozilla.

Edit: I just noticed that the destruction of TM's topic has created a five-month gap in my recent posts listings. Everything I posted between the beginning of March until the end of July is missing from said list.

Hmm, I just definitely seem to recall this happening before and when talking about it with Drakey, it was something to do with a certain character/character string. Might be early senility though.

This character string didn't occur in Mountain of Shadows. The common factor, however, is the sheer volume of text.

As for a Unicode character that crashes browsers... only a short while from the technology allowing you to stab people in the face over the internet (which is going to make its inventor very rich indeed...)

The obvious path to success is not to release the technology until you have also discovered a failsafe defence, and then keep the lid on the defence until you have discovered a way to bypass the defence.

Et cetera.

It's easy to think you have a defence, until some hacker proves you wrong. It might bring a whole new meaning to the term 'patch'.

With this stabbing someone over the internet thing, a handy name for the hacker's patch- an eyepatch perhaps?

Hey, a side note: in my school's Boards, we reached with a Thread 40 pages, and the UBB for revenge has devoured twenty of them! It can be happen here too?

Indeed, and it is pretty much exactly what happened here and with MoS. The reason some pages are still there is because UBB caches stuff in a weird way.

Your school uses UBB? My sympathies. :(

I leave this place alone for 3 weeks and you manage to destroy the name game thread? Amazing. It may be worthwhile to leave for a longer period to see what else can get destroyed...

What caused this outbreak? (WKS didn't look that unstable to me.)

I suspect it was a similar outbreak to my "Hail Dikiyoba and Cthulhu" fit, except more severe.

Remember that the stablest people here have given their sanity to the turtle. Historical case in point, the US Avatar Thread of Summer 2003. :(
