Ladies and gentelemen, it appears that the TM's long-winded moniker thread has succumbed to the disease known as UBB, and is no longer with us. Congratulations to WikiSpidweb, who appears to have crashed it with posting the entire... well, something. Religious doctrine, it appears. And on that note, I feel inclined to ask: How many topics on Spiderweb have died this type of death? I wondered what was slowing the board down. Long post crashes aren't the same as long thread crashes. And posting the Kama Sutra is a flagrant offense on several accounts. —Alorael, who is mostly strongly annoyed by it. The fact that this causes bad things was already stated many times. This was done deliberately to cause said bad things. It was done with material that is most definitely not wanted on these boards. Like Mountain of Shadows, the topic is no longer writable. Posts can neither be added, nor edited, nor deleted. It might not even be lockable. It is most emphatically not indelible. The question is how much collateral damage is acceptable in expunging the offending posts and possibly resuscitating the thread. —Alorael, who can only add that if the UBB were slightly better, this would be solveable. An ignoble end for such greatness, how the mighty hath fallen, etc. and other such condolences reeking of schadenfreude... Unfortunately(?), unlike Mountain of Shadows, I haven't got a single page saved, and therefore the least incomplete copy of the topic will be half a year old now and ever. That aside, it's always sad to see a bit of history disappear (especially when it was already history before disappearing, as it rarely is). At least the oldest surviving topic in General (by start date) is now Cavanoskus' "For those who are interested", which has a slight bit of history attached as well. My most recent post before this one was in TM's topic, so now I can't even view my most recent posts (maybe after this post I can). It was something about this forum imploding if the topic reached 1000. Well, you came close, TM. This event is so significant it should be noted in the stats. And in Return of the Spiderwebbers. A now-banned member who posted much of the Kama Sutra, the ancient Indian sex manual for patent lawyers, in TM's long-running moniker thread. This put the thread's total length over the top of some UBB limit. The actual content of the last post doubtless put Wiki further into the doghouse, but had no role in causing the catastrophe, other than to ensure that the thread knew in amazingly pedantic detail just exactly what was being done to it. -------------------- We're not doing cool.
