Hey guys,

In psychology the other day, Bipolar disorders were briefly mentioned (just as an abnormality). Me being me, I was curious and did some research...

http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleID=47&PrintPage=1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_disorder#Diagnosis

What I found was rather surprising. For a disorder which affects 1% of the population, it's remarkably unknown- I'm in Sixth Form now, and only really heard about it because I'm taking Psychology.

What I'm really trying to get at here, is how to tell if someone has this, if you need to be careful around them etc (I'd feel very bad if something I inadvertently said caused someone to have an "episode"), and so on. Everyone in their life will have met someone with this disorder, as I said- it's very common; so why don't we know about it? What's it like being friends with someone with Bipolar, what's it like working with them- basically what is it like having relationships with them (any form of relationship)?

I'm sure one of you will know a bit more about this than I do, and if you do- well I'd love to learn more about it (I'm still curious to know about this). Why isn't it talked about? Is it another example of the stigma upon mental disorders?

I hope I don't upset anyone with this post, and I'm sorry if I do (don't feel obligated to reply in the slightest if you don't feel comfortable doing so).

But that's besides the point. Marriage is not about children.
If not, then let me ask a very seemingly naive question, one which I don't think we've covered enough: What IS marriage?

We can discuss reasons for whether certain people should be allowed to marry each-other or not, but we need to first establish what marriage actually constitutes.

I think we all agree that a sexual relationship does not imply marriage, and the other way round (marriage doesn't even imply a stable relationship). Anyone can have a healthy sexual relationship with whoever they want (yes even a plant), it's their choice. Nearly every couple/ling can have children if they want, whether it be through sex, adoption etc (again, even that pesky plant)- so what makes marriage so special?

What does marriage actually do for most people (I'm not saying people shouldn't get married if they don't want to)? Sure, they can claim certain benefits, but other than that, it makes both people property of one-another, and gets their names down on some church role somewhere as being technically "together".

So yeah, call me young and naive if you want (and I expect many of you will), but what is the point to marriage- is there anything making it better than any other union, or is it just some by-forgotten relic from the past. And if so, why do you need it? You can get married in an office for £60, or in a church for several thousand quid- why all the need to spend that much money if you truly love each-other? If it's what god wants, why does "he" (or she, or it) even care about money? Surely he should do it for the "blessed union".

I'm sorry if this post will rub some people the wrong way, but I feel that these are honest questions which deserve answering.

Which versions of windows is the new open-source BoE meant to support?

The program itself runs on my copy of Vista without needing compatibility, but the sounds don't.

Couldn't you just have an SDF called when they step onto certain spots outdoors, and allow the portal to teleport to that specific SDF. There'll be a limited number of places the party'll want to teleport to anyways isn't there?

EDIT: Sounds pretty much like b doesn't it?

Denying the benefits of marriage to unmarried partnerships is, objectively, discrimination, whether you approve of it or not. Some kinds of discrimination are laudable and necessary, as when we discriminate against murderers by imprisoning them. Unnecessary discrimination, however, is harmful.
Ofcourse, this all depends then on the individual's view of what is necessary discrimination and what isn't. While I firmly agree that murderers should be locked up, and that homosexuals should be given the same rights as any other human being, others could say that there is a necessary reason to discriminate against them.

Unfortunately it's been done in the past, and could happen again (Nazi Germany).

Yeah the old versions of DrawPlus do animated gifs just fine (and to think they were new when I first got them).

I'm sitll somewhat shocked that there's a thread on how to make animated gifs, as it's not exacly the hardest thing to do (infact I'm wondering if there's anything easier), but hey- each to their own.

I hope the word "frame" doesn't confuse you, but if it does just ask google or here (again).

Corrupted data in stored items in Tech Support

If I remember right, there's an "items" file in each save folder (Windows). Whether it will let you copy it over and work I'm not sure. Just back up your save and try- I would do but my only save is endgame.

And if one of your files is corrupted, there's a chance that other file in that save are corrupted. How far into the game are you? If you're before theose annoying swamps (halfway or so), then you might want to just consider starting again. As a precaution, I always save two copies of my game every time, saving on one then the other as I save (that way I'm never far behind)- one save in the first slot, then one save in the last slot).

Hopefully just copying over the items might work though, though you'll lose all the items you have lying around then.

Granted, but while Jesus may have said this- it didn't stop the Crusades, which (in general), was a Christian (again generalisation) invasion of Arab lands (I'm not condemming or anything like that, I'm just stating objectively). And while more life may have been shed in this last century, this last century has also seen massive increases in both population and military technology- there was probably more deaths in the middle ages than in the stone ages, due to those same reasons.

Going back to the original thread, life may well exist in other forms on other worlds, but (as I think has been mentioned)- why are we looking for it so keenly, why are we broadcasting knowledge about ourselves out there for anyone to find? Sure, we want to knwo if there's life out there, but who's to say that it's friendly life, that it won't just blast us out of existance? (a bit doomsday/ late night movie sounding, but we honestly don't know what's out there).

Hi,

Like others have said, what do you mean by "cut off"? Have one or both of you moved away, have your parents stopped you from seeing/contacting each-other?

A bit more information would really help, again, I know I'm quoting others, but we can't help until we know more about what's going on.

Haste and Avatar. It worked in both E3 and A3 (though you use Arcane Shield in A3).

Well, here it is:

http://www.the-underdogs.info/downloadfile.php?file=games/t/tombtask/files/tomb task.zip&id=4495

If that doesn't work- just go to the site and press the "get here" link near the bottom: Site

I hope that helps.

EDIT: As I figure you're running a Windows machine (the Nethergate question), you'll need an old freeware MAC emulator (the site says this one works fine): Basilisk II. Doubt the emulator'll work on Vista though.

I thought my forums were bad enough!

These were just painful. What do you need 50 forums for 5 people for?

And what was with the badly tiled Star Trek pictures in the background? I can't honestly beleive that you couldn't find a larger picture.

Good effort though, but the forums had very little focus- there are countless ST forums out there, and countless other random forums.

Next time just try and think- what will your forum have that makes it better than someone else's? If you can't come up with an answer, then don't even start making it- trust me, I found that out the hard way.

Most in depth game. in General

I'm having to agree with people here.

Avernum 2 is probably the one I found the most in-depth of the Exile/Avernums, with Exile 3 slightly behind it (Exile 2 was just too simple for me).

Out of the Geneforge games, Geneforge 1 was the first "epic" story for me, but I found that Geneforge 4 got the series back on track after a bit of a blunder throguh 2 and 3 (I played the demo of 2 so much that those mountains still haunt me, and 3 just seemed so weak- nop to mention fluffy thahds). So, GF1 was the major Epic for me, but GF4 is probably the most fun GF game- as well as starting you on the other viewpoint for a change.

They're cute? I must have missed that when they tried to kill me repeatedly, or when I had my own and killed those annoying Barzites :D .

Though I just went for a Wingbolt in GF4- they're almost on par with fire creations for their combat abilities. (Magic are normally "artillery" creations (powerful ranged attack and weak melee), Battle are "punchbags or meatshields" (strong melee but no ranged), with fire being a combination of the two).

An Infiltrator with a Wingbolt is just fun though. You can do amazing damage, and really crank up on the defensive spells- meanwhile doing lots of offensive damage to just about anything that moves (Mass Energize)- you can easily dish out 500+ damage to the right enemy per turn.
