About the only healthy thing I can say about this thread is...

Try this link, Iffy:
FreeSerifSoftware

Serif let you download the older versions of their products for free. You have to register with them, but that is easy, they show you how. I think it is "Draw Plus" that you need for animations. And maybe you'll find other programs that are useful, too.

Yeah the old versions of DrawPlus do animated gifs just fine (and to think they were new when I first got them).

I'm sitll somewhat shocked that there's a thread on how to make animated gifs, as it's not exacly the hardest thing to do (infact I'm wondering if there's anything easier), but hey- each to their own.

I hope the word "frame" doesn't confuse you, but if it does just ask google or here (again).

No, not this time. I'm sorry that I get confused over obvious things, but this has been happening a lot recently.

Why don't we delete these boards and replace them with a link to Google? That would have the extra benefit of reducing Jeff's webhosting expense.

It sounds rather hypocritical when people tell IFM to never answer with "use Google", and then proceed to give that answer to his first question. Why is Aran's arcane question about Linux any more applicable to Spidweb than IFM's basic question about animated gifs?

For that matter, when I asked about webhosting, nobody felt the compulsion to tell me to use Google. And if I asked for an animated gif maker recommendation, I suspect I'd get serious advice, rather than lectures about youth of today being too lazy to use Google. So why is it ok to be a jerk towards IFM, and not ok to be a jerk towards Zeviz?

I would prefer to see everyone being jerked around, but that wouldn't get much accomplished.

My assumption is that you have done some basic research prior to asking a question on SSMB. You have gained a basic awareness of what webhosting companies exist, and what services are offered. What you want is comments on how they are utilized by the community, what experiences have been like, and what recommendations exist. I do not have that expectation with Iffy, because he has stated that he doesn't want to follow Googled links for fear that he will see boobies.

So, while it may seem irrational to condemn Iffy's question and blindly answer yours, I assure you that it is not. Iffy needs to learn that Google isn't going to send him to pr0n, and that his own brother might be a good resource as well. If my assumption about the differing research capabilities is wrong, please correct me.

...

In that case, it was obvious from the context that I had done zero research, because I wasn't even sure what features can be expected from a free host. If I had done my own research, I wouldn't need to ask a question here, because there are plenty of online forums full of user feedback.

As for IFM's fear of Google, he probably has overprotective parents who prefer to err on the side of caution. Just like in the other thread here, LakiRa's brother might be not allowed, rather than unwilling, to get his own email account.

Even if Google link is an appropriate response, saying "this is your answer, and here is how you could find it yourself" creates a much more friendly community than saying "go use Google, noob".

Well the short (And possibly most accurate) answer would be that Iffy just isn't well liked.

My longer answer would be that when a more reputable members, like Aran for example, posts a question I can assume with some confidence that he's put some effort into finding the answer himself. Even if this isn't the case, I'd be more willing to waste a few minutes of my own time giving him information, even if it's just reading wikipedia: A. Because I like him, and B. He has answered my and other users questions in the past, and so I'll return the favor.

That said, it seems to me that newer members relish in the Iffy slamming the most, something I alluded to in my first post. I guess he just makes a good punching bag for whatever reason.

The Internet and Google are "reliable enough". So is wikipedia. Generally what's out there is just fine. And what does it matter if the site isn't reliable. Presumably all your information wont come from a single site.

Well, everyone seems to think that. One person actually thought that literally (though never actually did it).

And even though many of you guys don't like me, what does that have to do with answering questions? I never go around saying "I hate you, go use google". I do actually try to help (and I have done so before). So what exactly is the problem?

Your reactions. Those who like to use people as punching bags, also like to hear the punching bag get upset about it. It gives them a reason to punch you more and the cycle continues.

When getting punched no longer bothers you, it usually tapers off to the occasional jab. Being less serious and more humerous couldn't hurt either. I'm not so sure that you really committed all your sanity to the pile at the door.

Noobking, please stop acting like a noob, unless you want the name "Noobking" to become attached to you as permanently as the name "Iffy" is attached to IFM. Considering that you were even more obnoxious when you first arrived here (and aren't that much better now, to be honest), you aren't really in a position to act superior in this way.

I'm not clicking that link. It probably isn't what you say it is, though.

And "Iffy" isn't a bad name. Oh, and...

Wow, I feel much better now. And I really do act stupid sometimes! Well, I'm not going to be a punching bag anymore!

Boobies are a kind of bird, often with blue feet. It's okay to stare. :P

Edit: Checked the link. They are, indeed, blue-footed birds.
