G2000 isn't even an editor graphic, so this is very weird. Regardless of whether this issue is resolved you should download the 3D editor ASAP. The less time you spend stuck in 2D hell the better. http://sourceforge.net/projects/boaedremake/

Two bugs to report about the current windows BoE. One is that when you enter towns, sometimes random items are strewn about it for no apparent reason (I think you referred to this in your first post.) Second is that when the party dies, the game instantly ends. Apparently this isn't how it works in old BoE, and some designers used this fact to kill the party and resurrect them in the same node. I ran into the problem in Spears, and I imagine it'd show up in any other scenario that uses this trick.

Whats BoA about in Blades of Avernum

It's about whatever the designer wants it to be about. Jeff's scenarios, and some third party scenarios as well, follow Avernum canon and take place in the same world as the trilogies. But just as many third party scenarios take place in the designer's own world, and anything goes there.

Yes. As a matter of fact, I'll go so far as to say that you're still qualified even if you haven't heard of the scenario before.

That's nothing, they ran a full length feature article in the local paper about the Tales. I'm telling you people, this is a big freaking deal!

Very cool. Who tipped off Jeff about the move to SV?

The last of the "Big Three," and easily the one whose work I enjoyed the most. The Rama series, Trigger, Cradle, Time's Eye: (And the sequels that are out now, which I'd neglected to read but am now reminded of) all great stuff.

It's time for a new CSR in Blades of Avernum

The BoA CSR is up and running at http://forum.nethergate.net/index.php?showforum=31

Stop by and write some new reviews, or help us identify the old 'anonymous' reviews whose authors' identities were lost during the yuku switch.

We still have a ways to go for the BoE CSR, though. Anyone who is willing to help is welcome-- it's a pretty daunting task.

I think SV is a better option than the Lyceum, but my only reservation is that if the Forge will be ready soon, the effort of moving all those ratings over would be wasted. What will the role of the SV CSR be? Just an interim CSR, or are we going to move all the topics and completely relocate the Lyceum CSR? Is the Blades Forge the eventual destination for the CSR? And if it is, will it be a supplement to the SV CSR (Like Aran originally had intended it as a supplement to the Lyceum) or will it be a full replacement? How much effort would it even take to move all those rating threads?

These are some of the things I wanted to bring up at the chat, but clearly I missed it. If you already discussed it, sorry. Just send me a chat transcript (Do that anyway, actually.)

Forum or the Blades Forge. The former is basically limited to Spidweb and SV, and arguments could be made for both. There IS something to be said for having the CSR right here on spidweb where it's so accessible to everybody, but then I'm in no position to even say whether or not we'd even be permitted to do it. If it were on SV it would have the advantage of not being on UBB, and being completely community controlled.

The Blades Forge would be optimal, and I know Aran has plans to include reviews, but only he can say when that's going to be ready.

I smell a blades chat; it's about time we had one anyhow.

Why did the Avernites not teleport outoff Avernum? in The Avernum Trilogy
Lifecrafter
Member # 6193

It seems to take a great deal of effort to teleport such a long distance. Ittook 6 brooches just to teleport the four adventurers, so it seems doubtful that the Avernites have the means to teleport a whole nation to the surface.

And, as Nioca pointed out, once they're there they'd just be hunted down again. The fact that the Empire went to the trouble of creating the portal to exile people down to Avernum suggests that there wasn't any suitable place to stick them on the surface, so the 'remote location' you speak of probably doesn't exist.

And the number one reason why the Avernites don't teleport to the surface: Because then we wouldn't have a game!

Anyone know what Ormus used to compile the BoE Editor, or anyone else compile it themselves and can point me in the right direction? I tried compiling it with DevCPP, but didn't get anywhere.

Or if anyone already has a copy of the windows editor with password checking removed, that would be great too.

You can download scenarios again, Aran fixed this.

Iffy's links are still broken though. You can't use spaces in filenames: he'll have to resubmit it.

This has been fixed.

And I'll refer you to TM on the level question, since it's his construct. Ask over at SV. (Rule discussions should be going on there anyhow, since TM authored the thing and he can't post here.)

-Yes. And there is no penalty. See SV.
-It's left out because CoB in general is broken.
-Quick strike is left out because dext already determines initiative, and bonus AP can already be purchased. QS would be redundant. SS, BM, Magery, Parry, LB, etc are also redundant and also left out. Riposte is trash, so we're doing everybody a favor and leaving it out, unless a legitimate argument for its inclusion comes up.

The BoE Arena was a game in which designers would have a certain number of points which they could spend according to a set of rules. These rules determined how points could be spent on monsters, with certain stats/abilities costing certain points. Designers would each be able to make 6 monsters. Then, all of the monsters were shuffled into brackets where they would fight each other to determine which of them scored the highest. The fights would take place in a 7x7 room. (Each monster would fight every other monster 6 times; a victory against any monster would give that monster the number of "points" equal to the number of wins the other monster had, plus one.) The bracket winners were the monsters that had the most wins and would automatically place in the finals. Other than bracket winners, finalists would be selected from those monsters who scored the highest. After the finalists were selected, then they would play matches tournament-style, double-elimination, to determine who the winner was.
And now it's back; this time for BoA. Check it out at http://forum.nethergate.net/index.php?showforum=30 All comers welcome. No design experience necessary.

Anybody remember the password to Linda's safe? There was a topic at the Lyceum where Thuryl says it was "Feodoric" (I suppose he meant "Fedoric", the uncle's name) but neither works.

(On a sidenote: is it just me or is this scenario REAL buggy for an 8+?)

Edit: Game Pu to the rescue! I was on the right path, but I was thinking that Linda's parents were Heidi and Duke.... Damnit....
