It's reasonably well protected, so if you're looking to get quick access to good gear with a low level party you might have some difficulties. Basically if you're strong enough to kill the black shades guarding it and escape Shaydar, you're probably too strong for it to be worthwhile. If you decide to go through with it, make sure you've done everything important in Shaydar (Finished the plague, got artifact location, etc.) -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Most of Jeff's games are pretty easy. I remember E3 as being somewhat challenging at places, and playing on torment made the beginnings of the Avernum trilogies pretty tough (but once you started leveling you breezed through the rest.) The only really hard games I've played are BoA and BoE, because you have nut cases like TM, Thuryl and the Creator at the helm. :P -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Blades of Exile is now open source, though, so you can download it for free and play Nephil's Gambit if you want to see Chimney. It's a quality scenario IMO, and in some people's minds it's one of the best. As long as the Exile engine doesn't bother you it's worth looking at. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Quiznos, Firehouse Subs, Sonic and Checkers are where it's at. I wouldn't really consider Chipotle to be a true fast food joint, but if we're counting it then Moe's and Chipotle win by a mile. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Been a while since I looked at it, but it was quite quirky as I remember. Spontaneous errors when monsters drop items was probably the biggest problem. That said I got through thirty-some levels I think, so it's not THAT buggy. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A FACE." -Nikki Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Wait, what's your argument about dragons? That they're foolish for not accepting help from humans? How is it foolish to not want to associate with a race that has a long history of pilfering your treasure hordes and attempting to hunt down and eliminate your race from the earth? -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Nice picture, although it clearly isn't of Scotland. Not enough kilts, not enough woad, and not enough public drunkenness. Kel just gave you a fairly thorough explanation, but let me just add that the matrix/grid thing isn't really important to a basic understanding of flags. If it confuses you, just forget about it. What's important is that you have a list of flags for a town (and you definitely SHOULD keep a list of what each flag corresponds to) and you know that each flag is only set when the player has done the appropriate corresponding action (Like killing a bandit, or receiving a quest reward) and checked when you want to know if said action has been completed. So (0,2) would check if you've received the quest from the mayor, and nothing else. It'd be set in the dialog node where the quest is given, and checked, say, at the entrance of the dungeon or even in NPC's dialog nodes to allow you to ask other townsfolk about your quest. It would NOT be checked if you want to know how many bandits the player has killed, you'd use a whole new flag for that. "Building The Basic Quest"-- an article by Jeff Vogel,-- might help as well. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A FACE." -Nikki Frostbite: Get It While It's...... Not a fan of the mix. At least not all of them in one spot. A few at a time might work better. I preferred Eph's trees, for the record. Pic 2 is pretty good too, but as has been pointed out, the deciduous trees suddenly outnumber the pine trees in that one. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Seems alright, though I never use get_stat_levels_bought, so I'm just going to have to assume that it works the way the docs describe. Those two abilities seem to do nothing. No default creatures use them, and if you assign them to a creature they just behave like a normal ability-less creature. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Usually I'm not a fan of rubrics, it tends to focus too much on the parts and not a much on the scenario as a whole. But in the case of the Blades Forge it presents the interesting possibility of, say, searching scenarios based on combat scores, or plot scores, which would be pretty cool. I think if you give reviewers a rubric to fill out, you should also have a field for overall score, which would be independent of the sum of the rubric scores and would instead be a subjective 1-10 Lyceum style score. There's still something to be said for coming up with a score based on impressions of the scenario rather than picking apart its strengths and weaknesses. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS. Brett's Rubric for those who haven't seen it. I don't have time to reread it right this second, and I don't remember my impression of it the first time I saw it. Anyway, Brett was pretty big on rubrics if I'm not mistaken, and he was definitely pretty big on designing, so his thoughts on the topic are definitely worth noting. -------------------- "NOW PASS ME MY BOOTS.
