I don't know how to classify Foul Hordes. One one hand it's about as open ended as you can get. There is no plot to move you from place to place, just a blank outdoors and a ton of totally random (and totally awful) encounters.

But on the other hand it's linear in that no matter what you do you're travelling down the same path-- the path that ends with your uninstalling the scenario and cursing Sam Harada to your dying days.

Just a note: Jeff uses a crime tolerance of 3 in his scenarios, and many designers follow suit. This means that you often get two 'free steals' where you can steal right in front of people without consequences.

This varies from scenario to scenario, though. If the author is lazy he may not set crime tolerance at all. If he's particularly draconian he may simply auto kill you for stealing. It depends.

There aren't many BoA scenarios with large plot forks. Probably ASR is the only one.

As for side content, Smoo's scenarios are known for letting you wander and having side dungeons. I'd recommend Magus of Cattalon. Exodus is pretty linear, but it has a ton of side content from what I remember (a ton of content in general) and is probably the only BoA scenario that even compares to the epics of BoE.

After APF you could try Lord Putidus. After which you should be a high enough level to start TM's low level scenarios like Emerald Mountain or Mad Ambition, or one of Ephesos' earlier level scenarios like Shades of Gray or Embers of Rebellion. Roses of Reckoning, Babysitting, Settlers, The Empire's New Grove, and Witch Hunt are all level 1 scenarios as well. They're all quite short, but if you find TM or Eph's stuff to be too hard you can beef up there.

Of course if you play through the 4 prepackaged scenarios you'll be able to play just about any scenario. Za-Khazi sucks, but as Aran noted ASR is quite good. Or you could just forget about party advancement and play Frostbite. :P

The site was up for like 12 hours and then everybody spots the error in a 3 minute span.... Odd. :P

Anyway it's fixed.

I'm disappointed in Aran and Tyra; neither were online until after I'd already started uploading the files to geocities. I remain unassimilated.

Alright, so we've got Bain, Tyran, Nioca, Dikiyoba, Rotghroth , Oranges, and Aran. Thanks to you all for volunteering (And double that once you turn in your scores. Don't want to hand out all the thanks up front... :P ) Oh, and anybody who has entered a scenario in the contest is eligible to judge if he wants.

Judging for the 24 Hour Contest begins on Wednsday. Judging will be done like the 1/10, where judges rank scenarios from best to worst. Judges will submit their ranks and any comments to twenty_four_hour_scenario@yahoo.com by one week from Wednsday-- the 8th.

So far we have three volunteers for judging: Bain, Nioca, and Tyranicus. Post here if you'd like to volunteer.

The Merchant's Tale is also complete. I submitted it last night, and I'm putting the final touches on the final version right now.

Smoo, you can work on improving that kind of stuff up until Wednsday (When judging begins.) Beta period isn't limited to just bug fixes, you can polish too.

It really isn't if you use FB's code as a template. It'd have to be altered if you wanted to do it for a whole party, but it wouldn't take much.

Edit: Actually I've made a few slight improvements to the code since FB. A better version (the one from Threnody actually) is used in TKT. Tell me if you want to see it.

Congrats and good luck, Milu.

Announcement: The Knight's Tale is complete (six hours late, but we'll take it. We're not being real strict with the time limit btw, so don't feel like clearing a 24 hour block of time is a barrier to entry. If you want to keep to the time limit but spread it across the week, that's fine. The time limit should be something fun the designer imposes on him/herself, not something to keep you from participating)

Anyhow this brings our total to 2 scenarios. The Knight's Tale by yours truly, and IMAGINE THIS SCENARIO by TM. At the very least we'll have a competition! :P

I'm getting a "stuck on 0" error whenever I'm in a certain room. I'll e-mail you the save.

Edit: When I reload the save file the stuck on 0 errors go away. Anyway they were definitely there, and whenever I clicked "get items" the game would freeze until I hit escape (and no pick-up items screen would appear.) I'm sending you the file still.

Edit 2: And now suddenly this is happening consistantly, and always with the same symptom-- one room where I get stuck on 0 messages, and the game temporarily freezes when I try to pick up items.

Edit 3: Oh, and now my PC stats section is blank.... Which is looking eerily familiar....

BoE scenarios ARE elligible, and the same rules apply to them as BoA scenarios. Would have mentioned it earlier but I didn't know anyone was interested in using BoE.

Oh and the contest started an hour ago. Final deadline is a week from now.
