SOUTHWORTH, Wash. (AP) -- A man trying to loosen a stubborn lug nut blasted the wheel with a 12-gauge shotgun, injuring himself badly in both legs, sheriff's deputies said.
The 66-year-old man had been repairing a Lincoln Continental for two weeks at his home northwest of Southworth, about 10 miles southwest of Seattle, and had gotten all but one of the lug nuts off the right rear wheel by Saturday afternoon, Kitsap County Deputy Scott Wilson said.
''He's bound and determined to get that lug nut off,'' Wilson said.
From about arm's length, the man fired the shotgun at the wheel and was ''peppered'' in both legs with buckshot and debris, with some injuries as high as his chin, according to a sheriff's office report.
''Nobody else was there and he wasn't intoxicated,'' Wilson said.
The man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital with injuries Wilson described as severe but not life-threatening.
Just checking, my friend. :P

I'm pretty sure Synergy is younger. But this is a good study of evolution in action. Too bad this didn't happen before passing on the idiot gene.

Guy has an interesting approach to problem solving-- if it doesn't work just shoot it.

This sounds a little more like Alo to me, although this guy is way stupider.

Imagine how frustrated you'd have to get before shooting it point-blank with a sniper rifle.

I just noticed that the reporting is shoddy. No where does it say if the technique worked. Maybe they were worried about copycat mechanics?

Shooting stuff is quite the versatile last option. I heard a local interest story on the news in May about a West Virginia man who used a shotgun to blow a hole through the floor of his trailer so that he could install his new cable system.

The Silent Assassin claims to use specialized guns to do anything from painting to cooking to getting the neighbors' dogs to be quiet.
I sometimes wonder if he'll ever fix that hole in the fence... it keeps getting bigger...

Yeah, but he's arguably not an idiot, and even those who would debate that point would agree he's not a redneck. :P

Are there rednecks in Germany, Aran? If so, what are they called there?

I'm sure we do, although they're not usually gun nuts (it's not easy to be one in a country with good gun control).

I looked redneck up in the dictionary and got weißer reaktionärer Hinterwäldler (white reactionary backwoods-dweller), which sounds technically accurate to a degree but which I don't know any shorter epithet for.

We do have much worse than rednecks in the rural parts of Saxony - but they're compared more accurately to the KKK.

That's absurd. When I get frustrated and have to shoot wheels I do it from hundreds of meters away. You don't see me peppered with debris, and who's ever heard of buckshot from a sniper rifle?

—Alorael, who thinks rednecks may be an American phenomenon. Other countries can have their equivalents, but they're not exactly rednecks. The drawl is important to the image.

Wisconsin has rednecks, though, and they don't have the back-hills drawl. It think it's a state of mind. And hair - a mullet is a dead giveaway.

QFT = quit fixing typos? Or quoted for truth?

Synergy also hasn't posted in a short while. And this is funny stuff. Shooting oneself in the foot is always funny. I'll try to find more of these to explain the unexplained absences.

A face full of buckshot isn't proof that it won't work. Another shot would have done it by my reckoning-- from a high caliber rifle maybe?

Guy's just a quitter. :P

I think a better, less Southern-specific term would be "yokel."

Dikiyoba would say hick is closer to redneck than yokel, but that might just be local dialect.
