Petrie definately knew how to cast the spell.

Having a magical object (spellbook) doesn't make you the original author/creator. Lots of magical stuff is collected out of interest (think gun collecting as a hobby among hunters). Granting access to magical stuff which you do not know how to use (rune reading ability lacking?) for $$ can be for greed/further one's own abilities to further acquire new objects for yor collection.... (think of a price of admission).

So, I am no sold that Petrie actually knew what to do. It may be that Petrie could ape/parrot the instructions but didn't create them.

A mage parroting stuff? I don't think they do that. They're too arrogant. :)

Also, I haven't gotten round to finishing Avernum 2 yet, but I swear that both the Empire and Avernum didn't know how to make quickfire. So how would Petrie have a Vahnatai Tome :o ?

You're still a Citizen. Your "Canned" or "Banned" title just takes precedence over it. When you become unbanned/canned you will still be a citizen. Just imagine it as if you've been put in prison. When you're in jail, you're still a citizen, yet everyone knows you're in jail.

Well,

I've figured out how I got into Debug mode finally. All I did was turn Caps-Lock on. And then it was all debug mode! Thankfully I know how to turn it off now, so...

Jeff, are you sure it's not meant to be like this, because all the copies I have do the identical thing, and they're the latest version :o .

But anyway, is there any secret advantage to debug mode?

Seconded. I think the best one was the barrier in the northern islands in A1 that talked about how you were dying but you just didn't care.

That one was so annoying. After running into it a couple of dozen times I cracked and asked for help. Amazing read the first time though. And we musn't forget the sign in the middle of the Swamp in E/A3. Warning: Swamp.

My personal favourite spell in Exile 3 and BoA. Amazing fun.

Firestorm area effect, but I think it was wound damage. And LOTS of it.

Well, Exile 1 may become freeware in oh about 10 years, when nothing can run it. But for the time being no, and it will stay no for a long time. People have been trying to get Jeff to release the source for BoE for ages so it cna be updated by people who care, but he won't let them. So I doubt he'll turn other games freeware just because people want to play them. After all, that is why you buy them.

Probably. A supermarket always has LOTS of the same item, so it seems reasonable that you could buy both, or however many you wanted.

Then again, why doesn't the bad guy do the same? That's another reason why artifacts are always old: no-one knows how to make them anymore, so whoever has them is more powerful. If everyone could make or acquire them, the artifact would be rendered useless.

You can't exactly save the world using the power given to you by your ARTIFACT of Strength, if the baddie has one also.

Sounds like the premise for a good Blades scenario.

Yeah, but who would play it? It would be the same as saying that your character(s) aren't the hero(s), just their secretaries. It may be original, but playable?

EDIT: Welcome back Thuryl.

Well, I think that you'll find that Priest spells (at least in my experience) do more damage to certain types of creatures, but overall are less effective than Mage spells. Mage spells overall do higher damage than Priest spells, except when you have a monster which the priest spells are effetive against.

What I'm trying to say is: Most Mage spells are affective against most things, but Priest spells do more damage to certain monsters.

Ofcourse, this is judging from personal experience, and I'm sure there will be other views on this.

And to talk about the Anama, they were brilliant in Exile 3, since you could get Divine Thud. Now I never go for them in Avernum 3, as you need both Mage and Priest spells.

If it's just a text file, then it overrrides one of the script files in Avernum 4.

Just copy and paste it into the "Scripts" folder in your Avernum 4 folder.

Remember to back up the file which it overrides, incase something goes wrong (unlikely), or you want to remove it when you get better at the game (likely).

im glad to see im not the only person who likes these games (all my mates think im weird  )

If you reformat your computer, all you have to do is email Jeff, give him the details you registered under (name, address), and give him the new code. He'll send you an email. Or you could jst back up Exile 3 on a disk and copy it back to your system after reformatting it.

But if you've registered with Jeff properly, you can keep on asking him for a new code whenever your computer dies for some reason or another.

BTW, Exile 3's a great game. Was my first one that I actually registered. Then I got hooked on Avernum (after I decided I liked the new engine).
