Hmm, let me see, I haven't decided who I would invite, but I wouldn't mind dressing up in togas having some nice wine, and a nice buffet, a vomitorium, and a back room with a well stocked bar. OF course it would have to be in a nice emptied corner of the Palace of Versailles say a large gallery with lots of paintings and nice table cloths. :D [ Monday, August 08, 2005 15:50: Message edited by: I'll Steal Your Toast ] -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I wonder if non-theist and secular humanists have an organized church. That would be interesting. I can't be an independent deist... :P Maybe I can turn my brain over to the universalists or the buddhists... They can encase it in wax, chant and hit the gong so it gets good vibrations. To say we are fighting all of Islam is a misnomer. We are fighting a specific fanatical branch of Islam. The "Taliban" or Al-Qaeda is a pretty specific fundamentalist bunch of crazies. They are drawing from a fairly obvious branch of Islamic terror-- a mixed of old style assassin-- you will go to heaven if you kill someone, and if you die in the process you get a nice heavenly bonus -- get twenty virgins, thirty goats, etc and as much hash as you can smoke and the more modern mad bomber which is endemic to most separatist groups. We've managed to avoid the truly crazy jihadists for the most part. We aren't fighting a crusader type war which would be a far worse mess than the one we are in now. There is no truly central figure who has convinced the more modern states to jump in an alliance-- Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Syria aren't fighting in a pan arabic alliance. These folks are not the Ottomans or Ataturk as they would like to view themselves or convince other people. They haven't lit a fire under the central Asian muslims who are the ones known for conquest and hard fighting. We are not fighting Indonesia. We are in the quagmire of history-- Afghanistan and Iraq, which go from one conqueror to the next. I do not think of this as a huge overwhelming fight with the "muslim" world. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I do not have a problem with growing tissue, organs, blood, etc. for medical purposes. Making pieces is alright. However, why would we clone a whole person. I think it is questionable to clone a whole person. Cloning would be an exact copy. One of the problems is that people would be opportunistic with a clone and think it was different than a person-- modifying it in strange and inappropriate ways. It would be very easy to truly create the mindset -- not me it is not a person-- so I will give it purple skin and make it my slave, soldier, whore, servant, etc. Or because it is different let me tinker with its mind make it look perfect, etc. The problem is not cloning the person but what status occurs to the cloned person-- if it is not designated as a full person with all rights people will tinker genetically so it can be used in bad ways. What is more likely is that they will use biometric scanners for identification-- you go to the bank-- they scan your eye-- or you put your ring finger on a pad and they scan the first two sections of your finger to get access to your account. Almost foolproof for account security. I think at first this would be voluntary. Also there would be no need for attaching a barcode to you. Your number would be a reference to you not something tattooed on you. I think it is a neat idea. But, it almost totally eliminates privacy-- having public scanners searching for biometrics (eye patterns), movement signatures would be frightening. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. This is an interesting idea. Every living thing will be a number. http://www.goodnewsblog.com/2005/08/03/every-little-being-and-creature-living-on-earth-to-have-its-barcode It is almost as scary as the nutty conspiracy idea that we will all be barcoded in the future for identification. (I don't believe this). However, I do believe that all property will eventually assigned ownership through a bar code system. Your car, phone, etc will have a radio frequency tag identifying ownership. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. The worst part of Bush aren't his religious views and aren't his patriotic statements. The thing which really bothers me most about Bush is his complete lack of business ethics, social policy failures, and awful environmental record. Bush feeds from the public trough like no other president I have ever seen. He holds closed door meetings with giant oil companies, awards massive government contracts to companies which he still has direct contacts with while still in office, creates energy and social policies designed to enrich companies which donated to his campaigns. We are spending more money on private contractors in government than any other time in history. Where are the ethics involved in Enron, Halliburton, ADM and other company which he smiles at and gives away huge handouts to. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. How disrespectful, I pray before meals during holidays, but don't remember most of the holidays. I also sometimes pray or meditate before I go to sleep or very early in the morning when I first get up. Food is rather distracting. I am a deist so there. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Maybe he builds a machine that looks into the future and the past. Small electronic components don't seem right to move a whole person. More recommendations. Eleanor Updale, Montmorency: Thief, Liar, Gentleman? A nice victorian novel. Curt Benjamin-- Lords of Grass and Thunder. I am reading this right now. I don't worry too much about trust. I think it is overrated. I look at people and see if they don't unconsciously or consciously screw people over. A lot of the time people aren't even aware that they are lying, or acting bastardly. They simply are on automatic. I try to pay attention and find people who are awake enough to think about what they are doing and have some positive traits. I don't expect people to trust me. Quite frankly for the most part; I don't want to know other peoples confidences or secrets unless I know a person very well. If someone tries to confide information I don't want to be part of, I will tell them to stop and that I won't be part of it. I have no problem being destructive if I am treated disrespectfully or with indignity. I like watching Olympic Weightlifting, boxing, greco-roman and freestyle wrestling, full contact fighting and kickboxing, swimming, and gymnastics. I also like to watch baseball sometimes. I've tried my hand at a few different martial arts type thingies but I generally suck at it, even though I enjoy it a huge amount, tai chi-- which I've actually made some progress in, kung fu which ended up breaking one of my legs in practice. It has been a while though. Weight lifting when I was younger also swimming. I'm also very good at backgammon. I've pondered doing a professional tournament. I like computer games a lot. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. You didn't build a tall enough pyre, you must use cedar and oak and douse it with urns of red wine and the finest olive oil not to mention a little bit of salt. Don't forget to throw in a few potatoes wrapped in tin foil. The gods expect you to feast when you are done.
