I have arisen from the toaster freshly buttered on a clean white china plate. Behold :) I am reading The Wood Wife by Terri windling. It is a Mythopoeic award winning book. I have Neil Gaiman's Stardust waiting to read, I intend to read the book, then immediately watch the film afterward. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I read the graphic novel illustrated by Charles Vess, A Book of Ballads which takes old Irish, English, and Scottish ballads and turns them into comic book stories with the ballads written out as poems at the end of each story. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I've been reading the Fables series of graphic novels by Bill Willingham. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. The stories involve fairytale creatures in modern Manhattan who have been fleeing an adversary in the land of fables. The series has won five Eisner awards this year in 2007, three in 2006, and two in 2005. It really is excellent. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I read Scheherezade Goes West by Fatema Mernissi. This is a kind of odd book. It is about the concept of the harem in the western world and the middle east. It is written by a Moroccan professor who is an Islamic feminist so it has a very different view of the world than one which I am used to. The book is pretty intriguing. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. It is very sad that Terry Pratchett got alzheimers. Let me see. I finished reading a number of books since last I posted. The last one I read was The Secret History of Moscow by Ekaterina Sedia. This is a really beautiful book. It is an urban fantasy set in a fairytale underground Moscow with very odd creatures like Zhemun the celestial cow and other things. It is quite good. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. The Elements of Style Illustrated is a pretty interesting book. It includes watercolors with captions from the text. The text itself of course is the best part of it. It gives both excellent instructions on how to write and is entertaining. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I'm on my next title, The Atomic Bazaar, The Rise of the Nuclear Poor by William Langewiesche. The best part of the book is the story of A.Q. Khan, the father of Pakinstan's bomb. Anyways, I am reading, The Panic Hand Stories by Jonathan Carroll. It is very close to magical realism. I don't know how to describe his writing, but it is very strange. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Hah, I've decided I'm from the same place as you are now. Oops, darn, for some reason I can only be from Ashes to Ashes, the machines doesn't let me add the phrase Scribbane is Wonderful, modding privileges perhaps. Give me a one star. Plenty of people do these kinds of things, its called monks and nuns, religious people, but they are usually separated from society, because they are supposed to do things which ordinary people don't normally do. Leave this stuff alone. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. I finished the thing yesterday. The next book in the series is A Dance with Dragons. My favorite character in the book is Brienne, The Maid of Tarth. Samwell is also very interesting. I wish George R.R. Martin would stay focused on A Dance with Dragons, he just released a two volume series of short stories. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Hello, I finished A Feast for Crows which was excellent. I am starting on reading Ha Jin, A Free Life, about a family that moves to the United States from China after the Tiananmien square incident. It gives a very focused story of the immigrant experience. So far it has a very realistic flavor. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I finished reading a graphic novel called American Born Chinese, I am working on the Bonehunters by Steven Erikson. Kharsa Orlong is one of my favorite characters in fantasy. It is an excellent fantasy novel about the attempt by Malazan to conquer the final stronghold of the rebel Seven Cities. There is also a war of the gods going on as well. The novel is full of action, intrigue, and darkness. The writing style is very dark. I could compare it in some ways to Glen Cook's dark company novels. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Dikiyoba, if you want to read something really interesting try getting a copy of "A Safe and Sustainable World, The Promise of Ecological Design" by Nancy Jack Todd. John Todd is the inventor of Living machines-- bioremediation systems for wastewater, as well as one of the creators of the idea of artificial wetlands for sewage treatment. The couple were involved in developing the New Alchemy Institute and Ocean Arks International which are both very interesting stories. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I just started reading Schulz and Peanuts by David Michaelis. It is a biography of the Charles Schulz. There are peanuts strips throughout the book which correspond with his personal life which is kind of interesting. It is interesting even if it is a very normal quiet seeming life. There are some interesting insights into the comic strip throughout. So far, it is worth reading. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh.
