Good= us (nazis, allies, christians) vs. Evil= them (nazis, allies, christians). Get over it, us vs. them mentalities are easy to manipulate and have caused a huge amount of harm. Compassion transcends us vs. them.

The formative years arguably are the most important years to teach things like music, math, and science. Arguably, they provide the cornerstone for future ability. That is why so many countries try to get this part early.

Darwinian economic systems don't provide the highest standard of living. If you look at the countries with the highest standard of living for the people who live their, the UK is not that high, and the United States is number 10. Somehow the United States got off the track when it decided to put forth an ideology of either a welfare state or economic darwinism, neither of which lead to good results.

We should take a careful appraisal of why we are falling behind places like Australia, Norway, and similiar countries. We should not just make platitudes oh well they are more homogenous than we are.

The economic decisions which need to be made to put the United States at the top of the ladder in Standard of Living would not be very palatable to many liberals or conservatives for that matter. A strong mixed economy-- graduated income tax, strong safety net, high luxury taxes, etc., less money spent on welfare, and more money spent on public works programs and small business investment.

Leadership, consistency, and ability to take calculated risk have more to do with building wealth than intelligence or merit.

Meritorious intelligent people for the most part end up in the middle/upper middle class essential job categories-- fireman, teacher, musician, mathematician, small essential business holder-- gas station owner, etc. Not as incredibly wealthy people.

Social darwinism for money is not the best way to do it. So there. 0

There is a lot that is pretty ridiculous here. Welfare has been around since Rome, if you were a citizen you got a guaranteed loaf of bread, a roof over your head, and public gladiatorial entertainment. This was called a safety net. It was used to make sure people didn't revolt and run riot in the streets.

Other than being dead, you are going to have taxes in one form or another. I don't know if they tax people in heaven, but they might. I would like to see a flat tax, with luxury taxes to reduce excessive consumption. The ideal tax situation would be one which gave a person guaranteed annual income creating a permanent safety net which would eliminate welfare and all that other junk.

As for the underclass, the underclass is being replaced by automation. Eventually you will have a bunch of starving idiots and a bunch of machines making more than we need.

Started a new book. Robert Heinlein wrote parts of a book called Variable Star in 1955. It is 2007, Spider Robinson finished it for him. So far it is a very good story about space colonization and personal relationships. A nice surprise from a new and old master of science fiction.

Hah, what net neutrality. Web Fountain which is IBM's super search engine and data mining tool identifies 40% of the internet as pornography and a large percentage of it as business. It is about sex and money baby...

This is not what the government wants you to see... They are trying to stop the gambling rings in the US, but they simply can't stop the spam and pornography.

Hmm, Neil Gaiman just came out with a new short story collection called Fragile Things. It contains some very nice stories, including a Sherlock Holmes and Cthulhu story, and a new story with Shadow in it from American Gods.

Just finished reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. A nice little piece of post apocalyptic fiction. This is about what it means to stay human under nightmarish conditions.

Terry Pratchett worked for eight years as a technical writer for the nuclear industry. He claims it was a lesson in how to write well, because it is so easy for things to go wrong with the equipment.

I am reading Blackbeard America's Most Notorious Pirate by Angus Konstam. This at times is very dry and historical. He is comparing different records of what happened with Blackbeard. There are interesting moments throughout. Lets capture us a musician, get the merchantman sloop with sugar and rum, mix up and the sugar and rum to make some punch, sail to the islands where we will bring in the local whores and build a giant bonfire where we will drink rum punch and eat for a week straight, make the musician and whores dance and have a good time.

I finished reading Winter's End by Robert Silverbergy. Not a bad recommendation. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The Baen Free Library has a few more new books added to its contents by James P. Hogan. I'll probably read them. http://www.baen.com/library . The design is pretty good for their ebooks so they aren't hard to read.

I have been meaning to try Icewind Dale for some time. I am rather amazed at them running out of plots. There are thousands of different fantasy novels out there. I guess they are afraid if they use a fantasy novel for a plot they will lose a lot of money.

I'm about to start Scott McCloud Making Comics which should be very interesting. I read Armageddon's Children which was pretty interesting. A nice mix of post apocalypse and magic. I was surprised that it was something different and original from Terry Brooks.

You have to realize that Terry Brooks has already made his money so he can choose to write what he wants. This is often the case with fantasy writers. They make their money off of horrible drivel, then they get to innovate when they have enough of an audience.

Dikiyoba followed Tonto into hell to find the Lone Ranger, but then she changed her mind after reading about Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day and decided to go to Long John Silver's but instead found herself on the USS Arizona.

If you don't understand the basics of medieval life, you won't understand the Canterbury Tales. Also read a little bit of lighter medieval poetry. Something like Gawain and the Green Knight, or Sir Orfeo to get a better hang of the language.

Pick up some kids books like life in a medieval village, life in a medieval castle, chivalry that kind of stuff with lots of pictures. It will give you an idea of what the basics are. Without these basics the Canterbury Tales is pretty much incomprehensible.

Somehow you are supposed to understand what they are talking about in the Millers tale, the Priests tale, etc. without any background.

An idea. I want to have a picture of toast somewhere in the game. Lets say an inn where you can buy different foodstuffs, toast, wine, milk for those nonalcoholic types, chicken apples, etc.
