Web of Starcraft. Hmm, doesn't really make too much sense. You could of course have a mod for starcraft where you played the Vahnati... -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Ah, having finished the first volume of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I find Lord Guan with his excessive honor to be one of the best characters. I also liked Lady Sun in the second volume. I am taking a short breather to read Shriek: An Afterword by Jeff Vandermeer, a novel set in the city of Ambergris. The two main characters are Duncan and Janice Shriek. He also wrote City of Saints and Madmen. The Ambergris novels are truly wonderful in their oddness. They are not violent but full of strange fanciful historical, literary, and religious passages with a mix of odd mushroom creatures. Truly worth reading if you like magical realism, or slightly otherworldly novels. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Shapers keeping secrets in Geneforge Series | |

Here are a few thoughts. 1) The shapers have created their own problems by building a secretive society. Secretive societies build paranoia. 2) Because they are paranoid societies, they naturally splinter into different factions, equally as paranoid as the originals. 3) They keep on repeating their same mistakes by copying the previous secretive societies which have been uncovered in their records. 4) This creates continuous new factions and internal warfare. If there were no slaves they would tear their society apart. Ha... As far as the problem with the geneforge. It is very easy to approach the power of the geneforged if done right. However, this requires a lot of training and uses powerful magical items, spell books, etc. In other words you have to become enlightened in studying all the spells, super items, etc. It would be interesting to see a meditative focus that could be learned which would not drive the characters insane. It would be interesting to see a way to develop a series of quests that could make a character almost as strong as the geneforged, that would not be available to the geneforged. If you become geneforged, you get insanity with the power of the enlightened. A very nasty combination. It would be cool if there was a "Book of Awakening", used by a strange sect of awakened that had a series of quests that didn't drive the characters insane and gave some nice bonuses. Very heretical of course. [ Wednesday, September 13, 2006 17:05: Message edited by: I'll Steal Your Toast ] -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I'm not spiderweb, but I can take a guess at why the propietary language. The company started in 1994 with its first game. The first game Exile was actually better than a lot of the game programs out there. Open GL was first introduced in 1992. This means it was an easy choice to start programming in his own language, because the Open GL was probably no better than what Jeff could do on his own. From there it became an ingrained habit... -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. It becomes philosophical when you realize that your decisions can't possibly be based on complete rationality. One of the underpinning ideas of some new developmental psychology is that it is impossible to develop rational decisionmaking capabilities without strong emotional development. Part of this comes from the study of autism and other developmental problems where emotional stunting stops further higher developmental faculties. Descartes was wrong about splitting the world into rational/irrational so new models have to be developed based on decision making. Descartes essentially disproves himself in many situations. This is pretty controversial stuff. A very good book on this is Descartes Error, Emotion, Reason, and the Human Brain. There is other material on the irrationality of perception. Breaking down things into simple rational/irrational tiny pieces is not always the best way to solve large multi-causal problems. I just got The Romance of the Three Kingdoms in four volumes from the library. The first volume looks interesting. I also picked up the latest installment in the Jhereg series by Steven Brust, Dzur. Both should be entertaining reads. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. I would like to see an interesting set of functions added to this game which come from another game called Evil Islands. In the game you can run, walk, sneak, and crawl. This increases the strategy of the game. It would make for interesting graphics and functionality. I know it sounds odd. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. An insane idea. Why not have an intelligent spawner. Lets say it can generate various loyal creations that make it very hard to kill. You have to get past it, but it is too tough to kill. It gives you a bunch of seeds to plant to make other intelligent spawners--- you have to go to a very remote and deadly place to plant the seeds... Kind of like a much larger spawner, with eight mouth parts about the size of a small tree. Call it a tree of life... I would like to have more control over how my character looks. It would be neat to have pink hair, greeen skin, glowing red eyes, and bright purple pants. This might make the character more interesting. A shop where you can have your clothes dyed, your weapons colorized, etc. would be very nice. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Peter David is funny, but to call Star Trek good is ridiculous. It is a mix of u-boats in space and the Lone Ranger. It got so bad, that there aren't any Star Trek shows on air. Stargate seems to have taken over the role of Star Trek for modern audiences. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Serviles are better at crafting than humans... at least it appears that way in the game. So tool use bonus probably. They should also be better at sneaking around. Less visible, more dexterity. That is my guess. They seem to make all the really powerful items for the rogue creations. It would be interesting to have something about this. They seem to be able to make some really cool things. It would be interesting to see why this is possible. When the magic side gets suppressed it causes the technical side to go haywire. It might be interesting to see a mad servile craftsman or two capable of making some really crazy stuff. I somehow don't think the giant dragons, or the floating eyes could really make the delicate instruments like pylon controls or microscope pieces very well.
