Not the best by Douglas Adams, but then he never finished it. They are still dragging stuff off his hard drive so there may be more to come. Have you tried Don't Panic the biography by Neil Gaiman? It has some great bits from Douglas Adams and it was recently reprinted with additional material. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You know, I still haven't gotten that book I've been waiting for. :( And I'm pretty sure someone's screwing around with it, because when I last checked it I was first in line to get it, and it said it had arrived, but a few days later it said it was loaned out again. But not by me. :\ Someone jumped over me, the bastard. And now I have to wait more weeks. It's not like it's already been two months for me... *grumbles* -------------------- Pannaan kaikki hippulat vinkumaan! ^_^ Ooh! quote:How?! I've just finished reading "The Queen Of The Damned" by Anne Rice. I'd read the first two books in the 'Vampire Chronicles' a while back, and finally got that one. It was partly for pleasure, and partly research though, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I should. I still prefer "Interview with the Vampire". -------------------- Nikki's Nook - La maison de mon rêve? Posts: 2864 | Registered: Monday, September 8 2003 07:00 |

Am reading typical fantasy again Steven Erikson House of Chains, part of the Malanzan Book of the Fallen. I must recommend the book Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong. It reads like an epic fantasy, even though it is actually a historical novel. The funny thing about ancient Chinese history is that it tends to merge historical events with mythical ones, making for a good story. You may have trouble finding a copy, however, as they don't seem to appreciate Asian literature much in the Western world. Ever play dynasty warriors? That game is loosely based on this book. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

I just got The Romance of the Three Kingdoms in four volumes from the library. The first volume looks interesting. I also picked up the latest installment in the Jhereg series by Steven Brust, Dzur. Both should be entertaining reads. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Does reading something you've written yourself count? It does now, I declare so. As a matter of fact, you should go and see it for yourself. The first chapter of TMC is finally done and I'm so tired/happy/meh I just have to point it out to someone! It's only because I love you all so. Fellow Spidwebbers? This is for you. Recently I've been reading several books at once. It makes for interesting storylines. Anyhow, I've been on a $1 at Powells kick, so a lot of Freddy Pohl. Also some LeGuin, but not because she is a PDXer. I did her Earthsea, which left me underwhelmed. Disappointing, considering that I really liked it when I was 13. Next is Left Hand, then Lathe, but currently Stephen Fry's Making History. -------------------- Synergy, et al - "I don't get it." Argon - "I'm at a loss for words..." Reading it now, Riibu. I hope this means you'll be in on Nanowrimo this year again? I don't know yet, but if it comes to it, I'll probably choose that over the scenario contest... -------------------- The Noble and Ancient Order of Polaris - We're Not Yet Dead. Of course I will be in NaNoWriMo! I already have a story in mind too, and hopefully I can focus on it as well as I did on last year's. *shamelessly double posting* I'm also shamelessly promoting the second chapter of my TMC story. I actually recommend this. It's quite a bit better than the first one. Or so I like to think. But of course it's always best to read both and in order... *yawn* Surprisingly late, isn't it? Nearly 5am. ^^ -------------------- Pannaan kaikki hippulat vinkumaan! ^_^ Ooh! Well aside from the ever thrilling Websters Rhyming Dictionary, I'm begining to delve into: Todos Los Fuegos El Fuego" So far not bad if your looking for a short book to extend your Spanish vocabulary. Also good is "Rise Let Us Be On Our Way." And for SciFi Just go to the master Frank Herbert: Any of the Dune books (even if you've read them 12 times already), his othe stuff is good to. And a semi-lost fantasy novel that's fantastic: "Job: A Comedy Of Justice." -------------------- "My Mazaradi goes 185 They Took my License Now I don’t drive But I got me a limo And I sit in the back Lock all the doors In case I’m attacked.” Posts: 54 | Registered: Wednesday, April 12 2006 07:00 |
