I would assume it would mean by the end of June 1st, e.g. Midnight today at Spiderwebs location. That would make the most sense. There are at least two people who are trying to make that time deadline.

Lets see the most prominent is Abu Nidal, also various "freedom fighters" who didn't like his neighbors --"Mujhadeen- Khalq" anti-Iranian, "Kurdistan Workers Party" -- anti-Turkish. Various Palestinian splinter groups. He is supposed to have paid bounties for suicide bombers against Israel.

I wish there was a little bit more honesty on this. The reason which we went to war with Saddam was 1) He was a genocidal maniac. 2) He threatened his neighbors with invasion. 3) He attempted in the invasion of Kuwait to open an overland route to export oil which could not be blocked by UN sanctions, or directed by OPEC. 4) He threatened the United States oil supply by burning oil wells and threatening neighboring countries in how they supplied oil through OPEC. 5) He probably had used poison gas and other things on his own people. Even if he didn't use WMDs on his people, he killed them in droves. 6) He may have had WMD-- this was not proven. I think if he had any, he exported all of his WMDs to Syria a couple years earlier. 7) He attacked the United States ally Israel. 8) He harbored terrorists-- not Al Qaeda terrorists but Palestinian terrorists. This is proven. 9) The Kurdish problem became unmanageable after the gulf war and his neighbors needed a way to manage them. 10) He prompted increasing weapons research and military expenditures by Iran.

Hello, I don't really keep track of my iq it is about 120-130 the last time I checked. However, my memory is pretty strong, I read prodigious amounts of information- 1-3 books plus assorted news reading a day sometimes, have superb concentration, and am very good at synthesizing information from a variety of sources. One of the problems I have with IQ tests is that most of what is in them is completely irrelevant. I have to sometimes choose what I remember and what I forget, or I will get a bit crazy. However, I am not particularly technical adept, mechanically, nor mathematically inclined. IQ tests fail to measure talent. If there was a test that could systematically identify a persons talents (music, math, physical reflexes, empathy) and strong points early it would be much more useful than an iq test.

If anyone is wondering I have a little tater tot named ketchup that popped out of the toaster. It keeps bouncing up and down.

Hello,
I am curious. The scenarios are going to be sent in by June 1, 2005 for the contest. How soon will they be posted after they are received so we can download and play them. I know the judging ends September 1, 2005.
Just curious.

Yes, I have seen examples of religion encroaching on government with greater and greater regularity. More and more cases are being forced on us which should not be taken up. To take up the question of "in god we trust" in the pledge of allegiance for example is a political decision. If the Supreme Court was not pressured by religious groups this would not be on the agenda.

To question the validity of having the ten commandments in front of a courthouse is also an encroachment on our religious freedom, the "ten commandments" are as much part of our history as our religion. Once again we are having pieces of our heritage used to spur religious arguments for christianity usually by atheists or right wing christians. Our heritage should not be coopted by evangelicals.

Why is the government funding religious charities. Is it the governments duty to hand out the Koran or the Bible at the soup kitchen. I do not want my taxes to go to support some of the religious charities which I do not agree with.

Why should we give public money to parochial schools as part of school choice? These are religious institutions. It is not the business of government to pay for Catholic, Jewish, or Muslim schools. This is a clear violation of separation of church and state.

I am offended when someone claims a certain politician is supported by god. I doubt most politicians are good with god. Why should we give tax exemption to people who are using the pulpit not to preach, but to campaign for candidates.

I was reading the paper the other day. There are prayer rooms where you can go and pray if you work in various large corporations. Am I supposed to go and pray on my knees in the corporate office.

There is a lot of rhetoric. Am I supposed to become a religious crusader because we are fighting with the muslims. I think not. I have no tolerance for theocracy muslim or otherwise.

The deforestation statement is also false-- for example in Brasil they cannot stop the deforestation of the Amazon.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050523/sc_nm/environment_brazil_amazon_dc_1

In a similar manner, the UN is pretty much useless at stopping deforestation.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050528/sc_afp/unforestsagriculture_050528003839

In the U.S., there is very little that will stop loggers unless the logging is done on private land.

It looks more and more likely that the only countries that will have large forests will be the countries which manage forests as a commercial resource-- Japan, Finland, the Scandinavian countires, Canada, and the large commercial forestry lands in the United States etc.

Giving a political figure the mantle of religion is divisive and goes against the fundamental separation of church and state in the United States. There are a few recent examples of what happens when this is done.

The first is the Southern Baptist preacher who drove out non-Republican members of his congregation.

http://www.christiancentury.org/news_article.html?articleid=287

Further by taking extreme views and pushing political agendas it alienates the goal of bringing new members into the fold. Billy Graham has taken a fairly strong stance against excessive political involvement.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2005-05-15-graham-cover_x.htm

Bush has polarized every facet of American life into black and white. He has polarized the world into those for and against him. He has built few alliances and the alliances have all been to take offensive actions against others. The congress is divided, the country is divided, the world is divided into those for and against us. He is great at attacking and conquering, but bad at building and uniting.

Where the largest conversions to alternative fuel vehicles are is fleet vehicles. They go to a central location and refuel. There are 500 biodiesel fleets. I think there are heavy requirements for government fleets to convert to alternative fuel vehicles. There are numerous public vehicle fleets and government fleets that are electric and electric diesel. In public transportation where refuelling is centrally located and purchasing is on a large scale it is much easier to convert to alternative fuel vehicles.

This also goes for for transportation companies where fleets are centrally located. With clean air requirements for long haul trucks and heavy equipment biodiesel will increase in use in the construction industry.

There already is significant use of ethanol, biodiesel, electric vehicles, and electric diesel hybrids in fleet vehicles.

This is not as visible to us because we think mainly of home transportation.

By the way a great site if you are interested in news and investing in hydrogen is:

http://www.h2fc.com -- Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Investor.

Oh and this is really cool. I love it. The Indy 500 is going to be fueled by Ethanol starting next year.

http://www.indy500.com/news/story.php?story_id=4105

This is a list of all the alternative fuel pumps available by type of fuel, Electric seems to be doing fantastic in California, E85 and biodiesel aren't doing too bad either.

The fuel is compressed air. It is the air you breathe. You don't need to process or make it. You need to take the air and put it into a tank so you can squirt it into the engine. The engine runs on compression, so it is not used up. It goes in one end becomes tightly compressed then goes out the other end.

It is like the air rocket you had as a kid. You would pump the air into the rocket. Then as the rocket built up enough pressure you would release it and it would go up into the air. You could do it as many times as you wanted, the air would not run out.

You are right, you don't get something for nothing. You need to use an electrical system to compress the air either as a plug in in a house, or to pressurize the air in the filling station. The question is how much electricity is used to pressurize the air. Because it is a standalone facility it would be possible to pressurize the air using solar electric panels or wind power. This is a catch which I did not find an answer for at the company web site.

Everyone will stop breathing and we will have nothing to worry about. :o That is interesting. My understanding is that it costs 1.5 euros to fill the tank with a 300 km range. There is not much electricity used in a tire pump at a refilling station. This is exactly what it says-- air. There is no combustion involved. The energy comes from compression.

umm, this is a form of electric hybrid. the main difference is that it is not a gasoline hyrbid. I am interested in hybrids that run on a combination of electric and ethanol, or electric and biodiesel-- no gasoline. Pure solar cars are still not efficient enough.

Of course this is my favorite alternative car. The air car. It runs on compressed air. A great idea. It is for real. http://www.theaircar.com/

We'll have a nice cooling off period when India, China, Pakistan and portions of the middle east go to war in about 20 years over water supplies. There will be plenty atomic dust to cool things down.

Then we'll have fun with a disarmed world police state.

Scenarios in Development in Blades of Avernum

Thanks. Here goes, I am just tracking things. I listed the scenarios I think are gone by now at the end of the message. Please let me know if it is wrong.

Undead Valley by Archmagi Micael is finished. It is playable now.

Terrors Martyr-- Should have a new scenario out soon for betatesting-- Mad Ambition.

Who is working on scenarios for the June contest?
I am curious.

The deadline for the scenario contest is June 1, 2005.

Please get out a few scenarios this weekend so they will be betatested for the contest. Untested scenarios tend not to be as good. It is May 28.

So get ready. Hopefully, a bunch more will be coming soon.

I am no longer listing unspecified scenarios.

These are the ones I think are still in development:

Dahak-- Longshanks
Arpeggiator-- Chronicle-- aiming to create it for contest in June. Basing it on a book.
Supanik-- "The Demon Star"
JadeWolf-- Black Valley
Hawk King- The Way of the Guild
Arancaytar-- Eye of the Storm
WildKarrdeSmuggler-- Magi -- beta testing should start soon.
Archmagi Micael-- Maze. Please make it about three towns. Allow for a few resting spots like the empty dragons lair in Basshikava.

Niemand-- Is working on a scenario with a ship in it. He uses wooden walls, wooden floors and cliffs for the boat. He also has modified the mad monk graphic for sailors.

glompingKhoth-- 1st- 5th level scenario.

MikeS-- Working on a complete remake of Wizardry 1.

Terrors Martyr-- requesting graphics for new scenario-- Day of the Ursidae. Level 8-16 party. Characters will be Ursagi, graphics switch on party. Also asked for soldier graphics, graphic of a car, graphics of an armored vehicle-- for a Cityscape Scenario.

Smoo-- Is working on another one ( 30th level and
up).

These scenarios may be dead: If you are not dead please let me know. Undead Valley was almost gone on several occassions for example. But, it came back. Scenarios seem to take a longer to make than people expect.

Retr-O (Demonslayer) -- Saint Brevity and the Oochie squad -- getting a copy of both Windows BOA and Mac BOA to make conversion easier.
Aquila-- Botanical Story
Overwhelming-- Roussa
Guardian of Eternity-- Evil East
Solodric-- Archmage Ascension
Milu-- Nephil Mountains
Spineraker-- Hybrid Child
YeahThatGuy-- working on a stealth style scenario based on assassinating a leader.
Lynkfox-- mentioned was working on mob graphics for a new scenario with his girlfriend. ALso trying to figure out how to limit magic.
Aliklik-- Level 60+ scenario.
Yeoman Cheesemonger-- Level 60-80 Scenario

Hopefully with a little encouragement we can beat the statistic of 4/24 and make 6-8/24 :P

I found this to be very interesting. It is a concept diesel hybrid sedan. Because it is a diesel engine, it would also be able to run on b100-- 100% biodiesel. You could have a car with no reliance on oil, decent handling, and good milage.

Time to revive this. I read a lot. Two more recommended titles.

The Wall Street Journal Guide to Understanding Money and Investing-- This gives a description of the federal reserve and money supply that is clear and sensible.

Freakonomics-- This is an odd book. It has things in it like a complete breakdown of the economics of crack, the economics of cheating for Sumo wrestlers, and other stuff. There is a lot of odd stuff in here.

I find this administration to be incredibly deceptive. It is amazing to me how Iran is being approached right now. Iran has nuclear capable cruise missiles... Something which this administration has quietly smoothed over. We object to centrifuges but don't insist on destruction of cruise missiles publicly. The cruise missiles are an indication that Iran is already nuclear capable and has been for a while... If not nuclear then dirty bombs, chemical and biological warheads.

http://www.armscontrol.org/act/2005_05/Ukraine.asp

I think we are dealing with an administration that aims to create a cold war and a permanent arms market in the middle east. The arms being sold are becoming more and more sophisticated and dangerous. I find it odd that after selling F-16s to Pakistan it turns around and then sells them to India because India is also an ally.

As long as a military exercises any control over a civilian population it is by definition occupation. Whether it is good or bad, or the people want them there or don't it still remains an occupation. When we finished world war II we occupied Japan and Germany. It really isn't negative.

Our closest ally is the United Kingdom in this venture. We are closer to Britain than any other country in the coalition.

The problem isn't the occupation of Iraq; it is the false reasons which are being given. I don't have a problem with the idea that we are conquering iraq because of their oil, their support of terror, their ethnic cleansing, their threatening the United States oil, as well as the sovereignty of neighboring countries.

It is the nonsense about WMDs and other stuff which bothers me. It is bringing in thieves to run the country like Ahmed Chalabi, it is using corporate mercenaries that are being paid 4X what regular troops are being paid, it is the incredible graft and corruption, it is the raw mishandling of prison camps, and lying about when we are leaving. It is also that we did not finish up cleaning Afghanistan of the Taliban.

We will be in Iraq at least five more years to clean the mess up. The way I see it, it will be through the full term of the next president.

We have been dealing with Iraq for its oil since 1910. It is nothing new. Read your history. It started with British occupation, followed by numerous rebellions until 1932 when it went through various dictatorships, until now where once again the country is occupied by the British and us for various geopolitical reasons. The primary reason Iraq was occupied in the early 20th century was to provide a steady supply of oil to the allied powers in World War I. It was of strategic importance during World War II for its oil as well. The allies had to hold Iraq to prevent the axis getting critical fuel supplies.
