When I went to the zoo when I was a bit younger you used to be able to get bricks of different colored caramelized popcorn with peanuts in them. They were bricks not little chunks of popcorn. You could tear pieces off of them. They had disgusting colors like red, green, and blue. I guess that was why they were so appealing. Just a bit better than cotton candy or carnival food. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Here goes the universal differences between countries if you are from a different country. 1) You look funny. 2) Your currency doesn't make sense. 3) You sound funny. 4) You make gestures I don't understand. 5) Your cooking is different than mine. 6) There is something exotically interesting about you but I just can't place it. 7) I don't understand why I am going to the police station for doing that. 8) Why can't I own this here. 9) How did I insult your political system. 10) You are from where? -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. The best thing about the internet is up to the minute and insane news. :P First you go to CNN and Yahoo news, then you follow it up with Fortean Times and Snopes. Yay ! Libraries will adapt or die. Now you can get books, dvds, comic books, audiobooks, ebooks, mp3 audio books, and internet access at a properly diversified library... Here goes. I'm back from book and comic obsession. Just went to the Small Press Expo-- put together by the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, and Book Expo America. Have escaped from Geneforge 3 limbo. Terrors Martyr-- has a new scenario out -- Mad Ambition. Ephesos-- has a new scenario out Druids of Krell up to version 2.0 Otto Halmen-- has a new scenario out A Large Rebellion. The deadline for the scenario contest is June 1, 2005. It will be interesting to find out which scenarios were officially entered into the contest. So get ready. Hopefully, a bunch more will be coming soon. A few new ones are being worked on. MikeS-- Proving Grounds in Beta Testing Seletine-- Nephilim Mystery in Beta Testing Thralni-- Where Rivers Meet These are the ones I think are still in development: Dahak-- Longshanks Arpeggiator-- Chronicle-- aiming to create it for contest in June. Basing it on a book. Supanik-- "The Demon Star" JadeWolf-- has a new title-- Andathenean Empire Part 1 Hawk King- The Way of the Guild Arancaytar-- Eye of the Storm WildKarrdeSmuggler-- Magi -- beta testing should start soon. Archmagi Micael-- Maze. Niemand-- Is working on a scenario with a ship in it. He uses wooden walls, wooden floors and cliffs for the boat. He also has modified the mad monk graphic for sailors. glompingKhoth-- 1st- 5th level scenario. Terrors Martyr-- requesting graphics for new scenario-- Day of the Ursidae. Level 8-16 party. Characters will be Ursagi, graphics switch on party. Also asked for soldier graphics, graphic of a car, graphics of an armored vehicle-- for a Cityscape Scenario. Smoo-- Is working on another one ( 30th level and up). This scenario has risen from the dead: It is being worked on. Retr-O (Demonslayer) -- Saint Brevity and the Oochie squad -- getting a copy of both Windows BOA and Mac BOA to make conversion easier. Hopefully with a little encouragement we can beat the statistic of 4/24 and make 6-8/24 :P -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. It would be good to have more than two factions. Shapers, Serviles, and Sholai. Adding in subfactions would be cool as well. I think the Sholai are in this game. I think the Sholai are the mages who are trying to gain shaper knowledge in code. I also think there is a Sholai Lord Rahul's keep. In addition, I have a feeling that some of the tradespeople may be functioning as sholai infiltrators. It would be cool to see some of the mages and tradespeople turn out to be Sholai infiltrators in Geneforge 4. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Ahh, the $200 a month apartment. I've lived in a couple of those... The first was in the back of a house. In the front was a prosthetic limbs and teeth business. On the side was a whorehouse. You could hear rock music all night long. The actual back yard was a an avant garde metal sculptors workshop. It was actually kind of cool in an odd sort of way. The second was in a communal type house thingie. They kicked me out at the end of the first year. I drank sometimes (a very forbidden thing for some people) and ate all the food. (That is not why I was kicked out. :P Now I live in a nice quiet neighborhood with old people with dogs, big gardens, play grounds, camrys, audis, and volkswagens, and am content. By the way, I have been diagnosed as being sane which I don't understand at all. My talent is an ability to absorb lots of information at a fast pace and pay attention. I pay a lot more attention than a lot of people. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Another idea if the Sholai appear. The Sholai have tried to suppress their own form of Shaper-- they are terrified of them. Here are a few worth seeing Vampire Hunter D, Wings of Honnemaise, La Puta Castle in The Sky, and The Castle Cagliostro. Howl's Moving Castle just came out in the theater. It is based on the novel by Dianna Wynne Jones. It should be a lot of fun. I am going to wait for it to go to video. I am cheap. :P [ Monday, June 20, 2005 11:32: Message edited by: I'll Steal Your Toast ] -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Hmm, another thing I would like would be reintroducing the Sholai. An idea comes to mind -- the awakened are close to Sholai lands right now. They get in conflict with the Sholai and end up pulling a conquistador type maneuver on them-- a small heavily armed group of serviles attacks a local kingdom and annexes the capital. They recruit mercenaries and press gang people into an awakened army... preparing to return to shaper lands... They attack not because they want to conquer but because they are threatened by the ruler. I finished a purist rebel ending. It was very cool. There are a couple things which I thought were missing in the ending. These are minor quips. 1) I managed to finish all 8 artifacts. It was a chore, but it should affect the ending in some way if you do this. 2) In order to finish all 8 artifacts, I had to clear out the monastery caves. This would make the effect even more pronounced. The 8 artifacts in combination are stronger than the canisters in some ways. A statement about forging great weapons... in the end might be cool if you get all eight artifacts. 3) I also cleared all the areas on the map. There should be a slight effect for this as well. Thoroughness should count in some way. Maybe you are better at rooting out rogues-- or systematically hunting down the loyal shapers.-- Last sentence-- you hunt down the enemy to the far corners of Terrestria always vigilant, etc. These are my thoughts. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Here is a series of science fiction books which is rather interesting. It is about alien war, refugees, black operations, piracy, and growing up in war zones. The author is Karin Lowachee-- Warchild, Burndive, and Cagebird. There is some pretty hard edged stuff in these books, but they are well written. It is not just sex and violence. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Hard drugs will never be legal because they support too many peoples livelihoods from the lawyers, police, politicians, and dealers. It is a devastating way to control people and become rich. The economics of crack and heroin are truly frightening. First we pay the dealer who sells the drugs, then we pay the policeman who puts the dealer in jail eventually -- most people get caught eventually, then we pay the lawyers to prosecute and defend the lawyer, then we pay the prison guard and the government contractor to keep the crackhead in jail and build the jail, then we pay the crooked man who owns the neighborhood because he is investing the illicit money in real estate from producing the drugs to be the mayor or political figure. That is the chain dude. Most people leave the last part out. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I would like to be able to build a golem or fix a broken automaton so it could be one of the creations that joins my character. Iron clawbug, flaming golem, etc. Whatever happened to the drakon golem. Somewhere out there, an awakened servile is planning his revenge and building a mechanized army... Here is an idea. You have the cross breed shaper/creation living in an awakened community on one of the islands. He quietly absorbs their philosophy, then he twists it in a maddening way. He decides that it is his duty to bring his philosophy to the masses. He produces an insane but convincing text which starts spreading out to the shaper and drakon lands. Then he starts building a militant philosophy that is a mix of shaper and human. Those who shape at the top-- drakons and humans, those who fight, use magic, and make things in the middle, and everyone else servile and human as slaves. He starts recruiting and it spreads quickly... -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I am playing a purist rebel-- no canisters. Basically focusing on creating all of the items. I have a lot of stat boosting items. I was wondering about turning off the summoning platform-- 20 points of mechanics is a lot of mechanics. I have cleared the level. Just have to kill the alpha creator. Any ideas on getting more mechanics skills. Have made the infiltrators ring, have tinkers bauble-- necklace (not sure if this is right), and tinkers gloves. Would like to kill the alpha creator without being pestered by the summoned critters. Have played with a fyora level 35, level acidic roamer 28, maxed out Greta, and my character. Hello, There is no indication that shapers ever die of old age or disease. The humans do, but the shapers don't age. I think of the council as ancient. Once you become more powerful you age a lot less. If you use the geneforge you live a long long time. I bet the shaper council has been around for a long long time. They would prefer you get your power slowly because you are less likely to be rash and youthful with it. Also it allows them to keep tabs on everybody. Think of a level 80 character in an unaging body... Thus they could make super powerful creations by boosting the stats of their critters to insane levels. There would be no need for drakes, etc. I bet a single council member could match three or four geneforged ur-drakons in a stand up fight. Having 500 years of experience under your belt heps. Another thought on how there could be a balanced outcome would be the introduction of a world changing character. A backstory idea. About 25 years ago, a shaper did something absolutely forbidden. She shaped a human being from essence, then fell in love. The shaper council found out. They caught her and executed her, but her husband the essence creation escaped with the perfect child they had shaped. The created one sought out a reclusive rogue shaper on the isles where he was raised in a hidden community. He has decided to go out into the world. Basically you have the ultimate shaper a combination of creation/shaper. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. This is a series written for teenagers by Isabel Allende. It is a unique fantasy trilogy set in remote locations -- the amazon, tibet, and the congo, I think. The titles are City of the Beasts, Kingdom of the Golden Dragon, and Forest of the Pygmies. Another book set in a magical realist type setting is The Shadow of the Wind Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
