Hidden Rooms? in Avernum 4

I think the Abyss pool is the only hidden one and I went through most of the game around Luck 7. I don't think there are any others and I looked at the maps a lot during the game.

Actually if you had looked at Bush and Cheney's business records you wouldn't want them running government.

Bush ran his own oil company into bankruptcy. It got taken over and he joined the board on the audit committee. When the SEC investigated the company for financial irregularities they concluded that Bush couldn't be charged because he had never done anything (his job).

Cheney back during his Haliburton days set up a shell company in the Caribean to trade with Iran because it was illegal for US companies to do so. The shell was an office that sent mail back to Haliburton headquarters where the "separate" company was a few doors down from Cheney's office. He claims that he had no control over them.

Finding out about politicians make you believe Bismark that "People who like sausages and law shouldn't see how either are made."

There would have been some familiarity with sliths when they were slaughtering them during A2. I doubt that the Golddale Mine sliths were the only group to make it to the surface.

Besides Empire policy is to kill non-humans. A party with sliths will get attacked near Delis before you kill the Alien Slime if you encounter Empire patrols.

At worst to help reduce damage use items that reduce cold damage to help get through the area. Still just heal regularly with healing pods/spores to keep from dropping to zero.

A3 is on the surface where the Empire has tried to obliterate the Sliths. A4 has one major concentration "underground" near the Castle that is hostile. Basically between the Empire killing them in A2 and the Second Slith War there shouldn't be too many.

Rudyard Kipling has some overlooked adventure stories that are hard to find. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Professor Challenger stories start with the Lost World and then start going down hill.

Try reloading GF3 to see if you have a corrupt file. I've had a few cases where the graphics files for the characters did funny things when there was an overlap as they moved around.

Actually it's easy to force religion. Just read about the Fox newsmen in Gaza that were forced at gunpoint to become Moslems. Of course these types of conversions last only as long as pressure is applied.

Still in 1492 Spain forced mass conversions on Jews that wanted to stay in Spanish territories. Some present day families are finding out that they are Jewish descendants that were raised Catholic to protect them. After 500 years they finally understand why their families practiced certain non-Catholic rituals.

Societal pressure is great at getting people to suppress certain behaviors. It isn't as strong anymore as it was 30 years ago, but people still hide sexual behavior in public.

Archery in Avernum 4

Archery is never is strong as the best melee weapons. The advantage of range attacks is to hit and weaken monsters before they close. Near the middle of the game there is the bow of decay with an acid attack. A few shots is as good as acid spray.

There are times to use it and sharpshooter ups the damage. It's also useful when you can use a human or summoned shield to block attacks and shoot over at the enemy, especially pylons and turrets.

I read your first two chapters, Riibu. You are right that the second is better, but that's mostly because you are spending most of the first establishing a world. The Robert Jordan type beginning could be dropped and a little more action in the beginning could help. You might try reading a decent book on script writing since some of them explain how to give information from dialog and setting description so you can avoid exposition.

It's too late for GF4, but how about one that is bad at everything. Having high costs for fighting, magic, and shaping for those people who complain that the game is still too easy on torment. The slow curve for advancement would be a change.

Actually these days its more likely to have bored, skinny (anorexic) elite. Think Paris Hilton and the other trust fund idiots.

Still ET had trouble between all R&D and basic R&D which is only a part. Since Bell Labs (Lucent soon to be Alcatel) decided to go from basic research to applied research there aren't many places in industry that do research without the emphais on the bottom line. Gone are the days where Xerox's PARC would develope ideas that other companies would use like the graphical interface (Apple), Ethernet connection, etc.

Identify in Exile 2 did each item for a separate cost, where E3 did all items at once so it paid to save up a bunch for one time identifying. Avernum makes it based upon a formula of intelligence, mage level, and arcane lore so you should get better as the game progresses. A4 eliminated it completely.

Actually I liked how high barter allowed you to sell junk and cursed items so you didn't waste your effort.

Actually I'm suprised that deprogrammers of homosexuality risk imprisonment for kidnapping, etc. for a few thousands of dollars when they could put their skills to better use. Go after rich weak minded people and "convince" them to hand over larger sums of money in an untraceable form. After a few jobs they could retire to someplace with weak extradition laws. Spending a portion of their pay to create jobs in a depressed economy and they won't have any problem getting the local authorities to agree they couldn't have done anything wrong if anyone comes after them.

There has been some recent research showing that enviroment can alter genetic behavior. Certain genetic traits or predispositions will appear depending upon the enviroment during pregnancy and even later in life.

Still there isn't enough research to show what determines sexual behavior and especially aberrant behavior. I saw one study that stated that young siblings were more likely to be homosexual, although the methodology isn't that great.

Hey, I upped my post count from last month and dropped from 1st to 3rd. Maybe if you hide the links to game information we could have more topics from players asking for help.

The problem is general doesn't have any good debate topics at the moment. The is one in Geneforge Trilogy and some about future Avernums, but they are mostly among the hard core fans.

I think things are going to be slow between back to school and waiting for new games. There will be a little pickup now that the holidays are coming up and we can start holiday greeting threads.

If the mods didn't frown upon trolling .... They make up almost all of the top 10.

A First Expedition game would have no matter what you do you wind up facing a horrible death. You get to choose between: rejected by Motrax, facing sliths in the Mertis Spiral, battling demons, facing the combined nephil and slith forces, trapped in the Crypt of Drath, etc.

I'd rather the first Avernum exiles establishing and mapping the caves. At least there you can survive.

i agree with Alorael that politicians shouldn't become crystal souls, especially not George W. Bush, the Chevyn of the American presidents.

It should be scientists like Albert Einstein or humorists like Will Rogers and Ambrose Bierce so we can continue to gain from them,

Actually there is a warped way to link the worlds. Consider the Vahnatai to be descendents of the original inhabitants of Sucia Island. The inhabitants split into two groups following the disaster with the ones following organic manipulation going off to the mainland to be come shapers. The ones that followed traditional inorganic crystal shaping go underground and evolve into the Vahnatai.

Now the current war between the Shapers and the drakon rebels destroyed the surface world and ends organic shaping. The surviving creations either die off or evolve into the Avernum monsters. Shaping magic is lost or deliberately forgotten in the aftermath that send technology back towards the Stone Age. Some magic remains among the humans that were far enough away from the fighting like the Sholai.

Since the Vahnatai go through resting periods to allow their caves to replenish, several thousands of years have past between the two periods of Geneforge and Avernum.

Shapers can create food crops, as in GF2 beyond Drypeak. The question is whether there will be unintended consequences that have occured in other shaper plants. The crops might over run the area and cause new problems.

Of course there is always vlish if they can make it delicious.

The earlier Dragonlance books were better than the later ones except for that irritating habit of making it sound so much like the game. I almost thought they would discuss initative and other technicalities.
