I've dropped so much in only a little over a week. Beta testing is dropping my post count too much. I won't even make it back in the top 10 at this rate.

Geneforge 4 is pretty much decided except for the fine tuning. Geneforge 5 is going to be well over a year away since Jeff announced that he wants to revise Nethergate to OS X and do Avernum 5.

You might as well wait to see all the changes in Geneforge 4 so you can at least make informed suggestions since the combat and creation systems have changed. Mechanics and tool use are also a little different in how they work for locks, traps, and mines. Still you can always do it the old fashioned way and set them off and hope to survive.

In the first 2 games all the sects are trying to destroy each other. They don't have the strength to do so without leaving themselves open for the sect that they are not attacking from stabbing them in the back. So they spy on each other, kill the other spies, and try to recruit you to tip the balance in their favor.

That's why you should also save the few spell books that you can find.

There is also that strange mage in Periges in southwest Valorium near the mines.

At least the GIFTS and GIFTR aren't around at the moment. I saw that TM is back in full censored voice (in the Episode). Aloreal's sniper rifle seems to be in good shape in spite of all the fights over it in the last 2 episodes.

-X- don't worry about how long it takes to get into Episode 3. I posted for longer than you have and I didn't get mentioned in Episode 1 for several parts. Most of the people that have been included so far are ones that have been around for a long time and are frequent posters.

Dikiyoba - I like what I've seen of the first four chapters. The new format is easier to read than the scripts. I'm hoping that the newbies first introduction to the General Forum isn't the fluffy turtles, but Aloreal compalining about the wind throwing off his aim as he misses.

Shaping is different enough that you can't assume that things will work the way it does in GF3. Most of the changes will be liked and some won't if you liked some creations. More will be known in a few weeks.

Help with lost item in Geneforge Series

Since you still are on the first island you could just replay the game in about 6 hours. That would help with your desire to complete all the quests and you could make any changes to your character that you want.

The first quest for Hawthorne is a prism that show up as a special item. The book is wanted by the other mage.

In E2 the route to Formello is easier if you follow the road east from Fort Draco past Tor's Farm (a source of easy experience) and then go south as soon as you can. There aren't as many dangerous encounters as along the southern route. You don't have the money to buy a boat yet to avoid random encounters.

Nioca - ask for Fenwick if you want to talk to the oldest gamer on the board. At least he is from what I've seen since he's about 60.

I ran a shaping type with magic creations so I can say that they are no longer so overpowered as in previous games. Still since Jeff isn't finished tweaking the game I would have to go back and replay some of it to see how they have changed.

People may be suprised with some of the changes and the new creations are fun.

There is more balance between the 3 shaping types and it is easier to make powerful creations at the end of the game if you need them.

There are a few at the end where you only have a single thing to fight for most of the encounter. You do need to suvive for a while to use dominate or equivalent spells on its summoned creations. Still if your character can withstand the damage the fight can be trivialized.

You need to start at torment level so you don't need to replay at a harder level. It's a little harder starting out, but after a while you don't notice the difference.

Item lore doesn't work too well in a beginning party. The worst is finding that an items value is below the identification cost. You can use save, try, remove, and reload to find out if the items are cursed.

I've played all the Exile and Avernum games through at the hardest difficulty (except A3 that is incomplete due to boredom). I did A4 as a singleton and hope to do the whole series as a singleton some day.

Jeff replaced some of the older graphics but mostly for items.

I think Jeff didn't like how we were going through some of his "impossible" encounters so he's been beefing them up to prevent single characters from walking through the game as gods and I called some of them wimps.

Congratualtions.

I missed starting a topic when I crossed 1000 so I'll wait until next millenium.

Still if you want to up postage without all that fattening spam, convince Jeff to release GF4 early and just have him post revisions.

GF5 - A Plague on Both Your Houses

You are a refugee in war torn Terrestia being recruited by both rebels and shapers to be used as cannon fodder in the war. Spend the game trying to survive and kill both sides while pretending to help them. (sounds a lot like GF3 except you start neutral)

Living Tools in Geneforge Series

In GF3, the first island needs a maximum of 10 mechanics and you can easily get by in the 6-8 range. The third island (Dhonal's)you need about 12 and you start getting items that you can just for traps and doors.

The main advantage is the extra experience for unlocking doors with mechanics and living tools and removing traps and mines. The game usually has two paths where one requires mechanics and the other combat skills. Doing both ups your experience.

CDs are nice for a quick reload of the game. Especially since they come with both the Mac and Windows versions on them. You can load the game on a new system without having to ask for a new registration code if you change operating systems.

I had a server error a few days ago that caused me to double post. There has been a major increase in new topics since Aran complained about the lack of postings.

Or this could be part of his plan to eliminate any proof that I gave him a suggestion for next month.
