Actually I got through to the middle with using only one canister and I could have skipped it except that I wanted a better result with that spell. You can play a no canister game if you want. Using fewer canisters allows you a few more options since you don't always have to chose to fight. It seems to work the same as in the earlier games.

When the game is released I'll post the great quotes Jeff has about canister usage.

I'm starting Avernum 2 soon, and I could use some party creation tips in The Avernum Trilogy

One thing to remember in Avernum 2 and 3 is that a few encounters require just one party member. For those I always use a mage/priest spellcaster.

I always used a nephil archer/sword/thief, a slith pole weapon, and 2 human mage/priests where one gets all the mage spells and the other gets all the priest spells. Both spellcasters have the first 8 levels or so of both spell categories for when you need extra firepower or healing in the beginning of the game. Make sure you give at least one spellcaster Natural Mage to increase the armor.

There are lots of different combinations that will work so pick something that you will enjoy.

For Demonslayer you need permission from King Micah that requires retrieving 2 crystal souls. I think Rone tells you to go see Patrick who reveals the location.

The Orb is mentioned as being stolen and seen heading for Fort Remote. I don't think there is any one person who actually tells you where to look.

Since there is a differentialtion between Spiderwebbers and ordinary pedestriants it appears to be solely on target recognition and means of transportation. The targets have so far been all on foot and until the snow is cleared we can't test out skateboarding. Maybe sledding and other snow related means of locomotion could appear?

I wonder anyone would ski in? After all based upon TM's comments about us it's implied that we are downhill. (I'm not explaining this in more detail since it might give TM ideas when he returns)

I thought that *i and Drakefyre would be more like the US and Russia. Superpowers that control the world with brute power.

Should Geneforge have been a pure sci-fi game? in Geneforge Series

The magic system could have been replaced with a more technological system with spells being gene enhanced abilities that draw from your bodies abilities. The explanation would have been ignored as long as the results were the same.

The review is accurate except for misspelling fyora. The details about the AP system aren't complete. There is one major difference that isn't mentioned in that you can get killed in the very first section of the tutorial. Most people won't be that careless, but I explored the area and found at least 2 ways to die.

It still doesn't give away that much more than Jeff has already revealed in posts and screenshots. The third way is hinted at in the tutorial, but you don't really get to it until chapter 2.

The new fyora graphic is better than the old one. There is one new creation that is really nice, but you don't see it until chapter 2 when it kills you for going where you shouldn't.

If you want to up your word count use lots of flavor text. Long detailed descriptions of the world to setup the backround and waste the reader's attention.

I found in beta testing that you have to be pretty amoral and mercenary to get a chance to explore the whole game. I'm on my second time through the complete game in order to see all the areas I missed the first time. Picking one side limits you way more than in the earlier games. Jeff went out of his way to make your choices have definite limitations on you future actions.

Still Dikiyoba can't be expected to do a good job with so little information. A lurker doesn't reveal a lot to work with for a story.

Just let Alorael snipe him and then they both can be happy since -X- will have been mentioned until later when he gets revived and Alorael has a pedestrian target.

I was late getting into this discussion, but ET's original premesis about those that gain the most wealth was fundamentally flawed. My example of Einstein vs. Bill Gates was to show that the three things ET thought would be most important - intelligence, charisma, and ambition do not produce the result of great wealth.

Luck and usually a lack of good moral character has usually led to the large super fortunes in history. I'm not saying all people that got wealthy were corrupt, but most of the examples used here had a great degree of corruption and luck in that the industries they are known for came about at exactly the right time.

J. D, Rockerfeller and oil used monopoly control to drive out most competition. The only company that Standard Oil couldn't beat before its breakup was the European monopoly Shell Oil.

Bill Gates got his break in that Microsoft was adopted by IBM instead of the company that IBM was planning to use. Since then the company has been known for copying its competition and blocking their efforts to compete.

Rewarding basic researchers ahead of knowing the usefulness of their contributions is hard. Some ideas will never be worth anything or it may take a hundred years before they can be applied. That's why there is a such a disparity in salaries between those that work can be quantified now and those that are only speculation.

I think Aran's native Germany is a better fit since he has all the country's characteristics including periodic fits of world domination.

I think TM is a better match for Venuzela since he has a resource that people want (new BoE scenarios) and constantly insults the world.

Killing Hawthorne is hard because I wasted so many spell points and energy potions buffing my party before the big fight while I looted and dealt with the guards. I almost died looting his room after the fight because I wanted to see what was there instead of just leaving.

Grah-Hoth and other dumbfounding demon encounters are hard if you aren't prepared. I got through that fight fairly easily and redid it so I could kill all the demons.

It's too bad that XxX can't see some of the emails from Jeff about the frustrations of getting Geneforge 4 to work perfectly. Starting from a well established game engine and backround plot its still has some problems that will irritate players. Actually the one that is still there has been seen in all the previous games to some degree.

Starting a game from scratch involves more then a good plot and characters. You need a lot of programming experience to make it run smoothly unless you are writing a strictly text game.

Going with the difference between basic and applied research. Einstein is best know for his basic research into relativity, gravity, and combining field equations into one unified theory (that he never finished).

However while in Europe Einstein developed and patented a thermoacoustic refrigeration system. It's mostly forgotten because it was never a commercial success.

Now it's given that Einstein was intelligent because of all his work in basic science resulting in a Nobel prize. He was charismatic since he was able to persuade people to listen to his ideas and he was sought out for his influence. He had some ambition or he would still be working in a Swiss patent office. But even with all that he wasn't a business success.

Meanwhile Bill Gates was a college dropout with a wealthy lawyer for a father. He wrote mediocre software that was considered poor by the programmers that he was later able to hire. He did have ambition and low morals that allowed him to turn a pirated operating system (DOS 1.0) into a multibillion dollar business by being at the right place and time (luck). He has since used part of that wealth to appease most of the people he has stolen from over the years to buy peace.

As Bill Cosby once said an American can eat anything if it's between two slices of bread. Although I think vlish would need plenty of ketchup (catsup - variant spelling) to make it delicious.

Up to places from yesterday, but it's a tough slog back to the top 10. I may develope the keyboard equivalent to writer's cramp.

Now December will be different since Geneforge 4 will be out and I get to dispense bad advice and answers. I've got a few new topics to start using information from the game.

I can't wait until I finally appear.

It's not enough to do the quest, you must report it to the proper person. What's worse is if he or she is dead then you usually don't get credit.

Nah, just loot their treasury. After all they are a suspicious lot that spy on their members and ruined Kneece.

One of the things I like in Exile 3 was after looting the place, the fight to leave Shaydar. The Empire Dervish is a wimp.

So many games that I haven't played. Of course I haven't played console games since the early ones (early 1980's). You left out most of the serieses I started like Wizardry, Might and Magic, Ultima, and the whole line of Adventure.
