Mm, ^ that said I think I'll upload mine to devArt. At least all the complete chapters I manage to write up. I should rethink through the story so I know more scenes. I really think I'm going to run out of story before 50k. :\

I have the same strategy, because I have the same problem. :P My first estimate of the plot came in at 8000 words, so I guess I'll have to come up with a bit more story...

...Ah yeah. For some reason I keep thinking that this month ends on the 30th.

Don't worry Ephesos, you are not the only one who is no where near ready.

Same here. Although I'm setting high standards for my preparation this year, and I do have a lot thought out.

Ack! But 50,000 words! *shivers in a panic attack*

Yeah, this is not looking good. I don't have many characters, but I think I can deal with that. The bigger problem is, I've no idea what everyone is doing on their free time - you know, when the plot isn't busy twisting. Which it doesn't do that much.

The wikipage is kinda fun though. Useful. Maybe now I can slowly start remembering all of their long, aristocratic names and won't have to refer back every time I feel like mentioning someone. :\

It starts on wednesday, wednesday, wednesday.. and wednesday is the day after tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.. we'll maybe be starting after midnight, midnight, midnight... *hums*

EDIT: Oh, isn't my new NaNo-themed name fun? There's this song by now split up band Nylon Beat (Finnish) called Viimeinen (last) which starts with Nan-nan-nana... jee-jee (except this with nanowrimo!), and I like to hum it in anticipation. ^^

You don\t necessarily need anymore plot< just learn to write more worldily.

If you use shorter words, you won't need as many characters. :P

Agh... I'm thinking of just turning this into my excuse to write a heck of a lot in a month. Actually adhering to the word count will probably kill me.

Yay, I overtook you after all, Riibu! :P

1987 last count, and the first chapter (or Prologue, rather, though it's now somewhat long for that) is done.

The counter is telling me that by writing 2000 words in the first four hours of time raised my average to 10000 words per day, and set the ETA of my novel to November 5th.

I wish I could share in its optimism, but I have a bit of sleep to catch up with.

I could replace it with caffeine I guess, but I don't want to do that right on the first day - best to keep aces up the sleeve for emergencies...

If you want to up your word count use lots of flavor text. Long detailed descriptions of the world to setup the backround and waste the reader's attention.

Aaaaand- that's the first day over! (except in US, but we'll just have to ignore that fact for some hours now)

How are we all doing? I've kept finely up with the quota. It's 2am and all I'd need is a few more hundreds of words and I wouldn't have to write anymore later today. But of course, I'll be going for 5000, hopefully. :P

Any parts we could perhaps view? Mine and Aran's are here (and I'm having kind of a tricky time using it myself...), and you should join for the comments (that's the easy part!).

But enough advertising us. Because it's your to turn to give. Now, fork the words over.

That's the last resort, really.

Well, I finished the second chapter (titled Chapter I because I have this bad habit of naming my first chapter Prologue even if iisn't). 3674/50000 now, so I'm ahead by one day. Even better, I've avoided making it suck so far, which is one and a half chapters more than I managed last year.

But don't worry. The true suckiness will emerge soon.

Edit: I actually finished hours ago, I just kept this post sitting in the submission form until now.

Agh... only thirteen minutes left on day one, and I'm starting. Let the suckiness commence!

EDIT: Wow... this is going to be a long month. But my character has life!

Arrrgh. I haven't started because of RL problems but I AM determined to write some stuff.

Hopefully I'll have the prologue and the first chapter/story done by the end of the week.

Use a random writer with a medium Markov order for plenty of semi-comprehensible filler text!

At a party after a dissertation defense, the professors were debating with word processors whether the writer ever read the junk he was writing. Random clumps of letters can be produced with no sembelance of order.

The others appear to be not lazy enough to come here now, so I'll just pop back in for a moment.

I just got to the 10,000 milestone today, so if I maintain this speed, I'll be done ten days early.

A part of tomorrow will probably be spent on plot planning instead of writing - now that I've got a lot of the beginning out of the way, I'll soon reach the point where I've only got a vague idea about what happens next. So I need to take a short break to regroup and plan the next few chapters in more detail...

And my eyes are falling shut.

You know... I'm out. I just can't do it... and I've got a BoA scenario to rush to beta.

Maybe if I can get that beta done by the 10th, I can start afresh and late. But for now, I give. :(

I'm actually contemplating screwing up my story entirely. There could be a huge disaster, everyone died, and I'd have to write about something happening somewhere else. Anywhere else. Will all new, more fun characters.

But I'm still keeping up with the quota, more or less. :\ Even though it still troubles me a little to know that my story *will* end around 40k words. Maybe even less if I don't pad like crazy. *_*

Also, not sleeping enough is not good for my depression. It deepens. :(

Yes, I got that last year. :(

I'd suggest that you sleep first and then worry about writing. I always find it amazing how much easier it is to write when awake. It's kind of a miracle.

Depression is cool. This coming from someone who doesn't really remember not being depressed, of course.

Anyways, the best of luck to you who took part. 50000 words seems terrifying, to me at least, so props to you guys and girls, even if you don't manage to win, or finish due the deadline! :-)
