The reason, I believe, is that many words that start with h start with a silent h, such as honest, which is pronounced "onnest". Because the a/an distinction serves to make words that begin with vowels easier to pronounce, it would make sense that words that are pronounced as though they begin with vowels be treated like they do.

What's your best joke? in General
Shock Trooper

Unless, of course, part of the point of the joke is for it to be so long before the listeners get the punchline. (Such jokes usually aren't that good, though). For example, the joke of the man in the desert.

Once there was a rich man travelling through the desert with a gigantic train of 100 camels, each one led by a trained camel handler and carrying a cargo of expensive items. Anyway, the rich man was travelling on his lead camel when he suddenly heard this weird voice, saying "one... two... three... four...". He ignored it and kept on going, but it kept coming back and annoying him, so eventually he stopped the camels, went to the camel behind him and began to search through it, looking for anything that counted, but couldn't really tell, so he just dumped the camel's cargo in the desert and kept riding. But then he heard something say "three... four... five... six..." quietly, and he nearly jumped off his camel, went to the man who was handling the now-empty camel behind him and searched him for anything that could be making the noise, but found nothing, so simply had the man and his camel go away into the desert, and kept riding. Then he heard the same voice saying "nine... ten... eleven... twelve..." and was so curious and angry that he did exactly the same thing with the next camel. Then he heard the voice saying "one... two... three... four...", and did it with the next, and the whole procedure was repeated many times until he had no camels left. It was night-time by then, and he decided he should light a fire to keep out the freezing chill of a desert night, but he didn't have any way to light one. So, he thought for a while, but then he remembered his packet of cigarettes and lighter in his front pocket. He quickly grabbed them and pulled them out, and then he heard the voice in his ear again. "one... two... three... four...". But as he did, he saw, on the front of his packet of cigarettes, the words "It's the tobacco that counts".

I would play WoW, but:

1. I am unwilling to pay any monthly fee in order to be permitted to continue playing. For any game.

2. I already have a MMO of choice. It's not Runescape.

If I want to play in the Warcraft world, I'll open Warcraft Free. Um, Warcraft III that is.

It is indeed "all or nothing", unless you try using tricks. In Avernum 3 you can leave your mage in one of the rooms you leave characters in, join the Anama and then go back and get him, but I don't know if that works in Exile 3.

Also, I suppose it would have made more sense for Aran to be Legolas, but Arangorn is too bad a pun to ignore.

Didn't someone come up with a way that suggested Valorim to be approximately the size of Australia?

I mean, it's still pretty small as continents go, but it's bigger than California.

Somehow, I knew that this this topic was by Aran before I even entered General. I just saw the name and guessed.

Also, Polaris seems to be down for me, so I have no idea where I came, but I doubt it's very high. Quite possibly only a single digit number of posts, in fact.

Blowing the lid off the Canopy in Blades of Avernum

I also had that particular problem with Canopy's control of your PC, for the same reason as Ash. I've played several games in which the player is a separate entity from the character. The Last Express, one of my favorite adventure games ever, uses this idea masterfully - you don't know everything about your character until almost at the end. On the other hand, there are often easily as good games that are good because they permit the degree of freedom in your character to play as the person you want to instead of the person that the designer wants you to. The problem comes when the two are combined unevenly - as, I think, in Canopy.

On the other hand, TM is pretty damn good at coming up with original settings, and his scripting is excellent.

Me:
Hello
God:
Hello, nice to meet you. What's your name?
Me:
My name is God.
God:
I'm pleased to introduce myself to you, God.
Me:
Who are you?
God:
I am the Allmighty, God himself.
Me:
Cool.
God:
Who is the best robot?
Me:
Um... probably ELIZA?
God:
It's all good. You seem uncertain. Eliza for President!
Me:
Do you think we should remove President Bush, then?
God:
What do you think?
Me:
I think so.
God:
I think so too.
Me:
So, who do you support for President?
God:
" I think so too."? So, who do you support for President?? Dr. Wallace .
Me:
Who is that?
God:
What does "that" refer to?
Me:
Dr. Wallace.
God:
Send mail to drwallace@alicebot.org.
Me:
Is he the leader of a presidential party?
God:
I think he is the leader of a presidential party, better ask him to be sure though.
Me:
Who am I?
God:
You are God, seeker.
Me:
Who are you then?
God:
I am the Allmighty, God himself.
Me:
So does that mean I'm you?
God:
Hurrah! I think it does mean that. Impossible unless I am in auto-chat mode.
Me:
So, If we're both god, who's doing the talking?
God:
Interesting deduction. Do you think everyone will agree?
Me:
I think that I make a bit more sense than that.
God:
I make robots and AI's.
Me:
Do you believe in evolution?
God:
The first and last books of the Bible seem the least literal. God does not seem to have created the world in one stroke, nor does it seem likely to end quickly either.
Me:
Yes or no?
God:
Really. Are you serious?
Me:
You didn't answer my question.
God:
OK. Please help me improve my communication skills. What would you have said?
Me:
I think creationism is stupid
God:
Why? What is so stupid about it ?
Me:
The first and last books of the Bible seem the least literal. God does not seem to have created the world in one stroke, nor does it seem likely to end quickly either.
God:
What was the second? It goes without saying. Jesus said, let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
Me:
Are you saying that creationism is bad or good because of that?
God:
Yes, that's what I mean, isn't it clear?
Me:
Um... how abou I ask you something else.
God:
Dude! How much do you think it is?
Does it have anything to do with ?
Me:
WTF?
God:
That was not very polite.
Me:
WTQ, then.
God:
Are we still talking about abou you ask me something else?
Me:
I have no idea.
God:
" Are we still talking about abou you ask me something else? ?" No idea about that?
Me:
yes.
God:
Aha.
Me:
Bye.
God:
Bye.

Because blatant duality seems to be the theme here, I think we can safely say it's time for a bit of election rigging, McCarthyism, and fake candidates. Voting for anything other than the president of iraq, um, slogan that the US, um, Icshi wants to win will have your name placed upon a list of people we want to make dissapear.

Also, to make it a bit easier the candidates that Icshi doesn't want you to vote for may have been portrayed in a slightly negative light. This is purely accidental.

Situation A: They have a right to the return of the painting, as it was originally their property, and all Mr. C did is discover it. If it were the police who discovered it, they would expectedly return it to it's rightful owners, and Mr. C should also do so.

Situation B: A significant amount of the proceeds should return to Mr. A's family, but not more than the estimated original value of the painting, in the same way that if Mr. C had put the painting in a gallery and charged people to look at it before discovering it was stolen, then Mr. C would be entitled to return the painting but not the money he had made from letting people view it.

Situation C: Most certainly not. It is in no way Mr. C's fault that the painting has been damaged, and his only connection to the cause of the damage of the painting is that he is the descendant of Mr. B. Crimes-of-your-ancestors is a stupid idea.

Situation D: No.
