Cave of No Return, Cresent Valley, Xerch'de, and RoR will not get in. Well, whether or not Cresent Valley gets left out depends mainly on whether Jeff, Linda or Mariann is the judge. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

Suggestion: make Kel's email address slightly obfuscated so it's harder for wandering spammerbots to pick up. Replace the @ with an (at) or something. Although it's probably too late by now. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

A small addition to SoT's point (which I quite definetely agree with) is that when people call Bush stupid, they aren't always saying "Bush is less intelligent than the average person". Often they are, but sometimes they are saying "Bush's actions are bad". However, English does not have a blanket adjective for bad, wrong, incorrect, etc, that also includes the sense of dissaproval that "stupid" does. It's the same with "gay" when used as an insult. If I say "World of Warcraft is gay", I don't think that a computer game has a sexual orientation. I just think that World of Warcraft is a bad computer game. But "bad" doesn't pack the same punch that "gay" or "stupid" do. 22. Nobody cares if you clearly and obviously order one of your pets to sneak into a place where you aren't permitted to be. 23. Trees are impassible barriers, and they always grow in groups of four. 24. You can instantly tell the difference between any two objects, even if they look absolutely identical. 25. Of course, we're not meant to talk about the Very Heavy At The Top Forces, such as the [<<rocket-propelled grenade*tuatara>>]. I could regale you all with stories of my D&D roleplaying experiences, but I don't really want to bore you that badly. I'll simply say that despite being born in 1990, I first played good old Red Box 1st edition, then lingered for a few months on 2nd Edition before permenatly switching to 3rd and 3.5th. I've mostly been a DM but I still play occasionally - on a ratio of about 4:1. I've also played several other tabletop versions - most of the GURPSs, one or two of the White Wolf games, MERP, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Warhammer (not sure if that counts as pen-and-paper), but I most enjoy just D&D itself. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

I'd like to point out the fact that space needle/ferrets are impossible, as ferrets are not spaceworthy animals. Needle/Space Ferret's, however, are both powerful and dangerous - but they still can't go into space, as ordinary needles are also not spaceworthy. Only the complete combination - a Space Needle/Space Ferret, or a Space(Needle/Ferret) - note the difference - is capable of astronomical travel. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

Trust the worthless neophyte not! He speaks for only 4510 of the great Richard White's follicae. The latter 9743 reject his outmoded teaching of hatred. The Rereformed Richard White Cultists are the harbringers of the true New World Orc. Follow the teachings of the Rereformed Richard White Cultists! Also, we will throw in a compulsory free set of elbow implants to anyone who joins and spreads the truth among those worthy. Oh, and to anyone who thinks of assassinating me and nipping the movement in the bud, I am merely an Apocalyptic Sage of the Unknowable and Infinite Mystery. I am at least as low on the totem pole as Student of Trinity. As such, killing me would not stop the power of the Rereformed Richard White Cult from growing. Progress Quest is a game that exists to make a point. It's immensely good at it, too. It also happens to be absurdly fun to play PQ, sort of like watching a defragmenter. If you don't find it fun, you've obviously not unlocked 3D mode yet. Personally, I have a great liking for ADOM, a slightly less one for other such games (eg. Nethack, Linley's Dungeon Crawl). The Fallout series, the Baldur's Gate series and Planescape: Torment are also good. I detest Final Fantasy. All of them. Especially Tactics. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

Second person is used pretty much exclusively in text adventures, and works like so: "You are in a room. There is a key here. What do you do?" I can't see it working for a Geneforge game. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

I haven't read any of the mentioned works yet - I would have, but Sydney bookstores are so far behind those of the rest of the world it's ridiculous, so I can only say that given the description you gave of "fantasy space opera", the closest I can think of would be Sean Williams and Shane Dix - collaborative authors, not seperate ones. The Orphans trilogy - Echoes of Earth, Orphans of Earth, Heirs of Earth seems to fit best out of what I've read of them. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

Well, I don't really see who else it could be. Also, I edited the description of the text on weapons into the original post. quote:I'm not actually any good at drawing tiaras, so I decided that it had been somehow vanished into the voids of eternity, where Richard White sleeps to one day awaken and consume the world.
