Books Being Made Into Movies in General | |

My opinion on that insult to Tolkien's memory that they called the LoTR movies are similar to those that the average oldbie had for Avernum 1 when it was first released, except magnified about fifteen times stronger and without the saving graces that Avernum might have had. Other than that, I think that books made into movies tend to survive the transition better than movies do when made into books, but despite this, of all the movies based on books I've seen, almost all of them were better as a book. Although I did quite like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in both forms. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

You can also see the remains of some of silver's maps on Google Image search. But the annotations are still far too small to read. New South Wales - if you don't know where that is, you're most likely an American (no offense) or from somewhere equally isolated from the rest of the world. I never used the cards, but I did, however, play the old 4th edition computer game version of it - it's the best card game translation to a computer game I've ever seen. There were several ways to kill almost anything with a deck of any colour in that game, but I particularly liked a red/green deck with a combination of Mana Flare (3 red 1 colourless, enchantment, every land produces an extra mana of the same type), Firebreathing(1 red, creature enchantement, 1 red to give enchanted creature +1/+0), Lure (cant remember the cost, but it's a creature enchantment that made all creatures able to block enchanted creature do so), and Thicket Basilisk (can't remeber cost again, but it was 2/4 green creature that stoned anything it blocked or was blocked by.) What you did was you played Mana Flare as fast as you could, then tried to get out a Thicket Basilisk and some other creature, cast lure on the basilisk and firebreathing on the other creature, and attack with both, pump up the other creature with firebreathing with all your mana, and let the basilisk kill your opponent's entire army. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

Uh... water only has one oxygen. Hence, it cannot be reffered (sp?) to by hydrogen dioxide. Dihydrogen monoxide, however, is perfectly fine. I am addicted to salt-and-vinegar chips, programming, and text-based games other than Nethack. A while ago it was discovered that Arancaytar is both an elf and the head of a well known evil software company. Also, Khoth and Drakefyre share a last name. Well, Homeland : Stone of the Night comes to mind, but it's not quite as bad as either the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 3D platformer or... *shudder* Riana Rogue (never played it, but seen someone else do so and there's a review on GameFAQs that pretty much sums it up.) However, they're all truly horrible games. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

You should consider yourself lucky. A friend of mine had about the exact same thing happen to him a few weeks ago, except that he came off his bike at about 35 kilometers per hour. He almost lost his arm, had to be rushed to the emergency room, and the were forced to graft skin from his leg onto his arm in order to avoid having to cut it off. However, he did end up with a really cool scar. Although it did have the slight downside of reaching from his wrist to his elbow. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

I actually suggest you not to get Empire Earth. Sure, the campaigns are good and all that, but the... what, twenty-or-so different ages kind of makes it lose that "Imperial Age is the best" feeling. You know, how you get all the really good advancements like Polytheism and Ballistics at a University or another, high-age building? That's gone, because with 20 ages, you can't have one "high-level" age because 99% of campaigns won't get to it. Instead, you just get the regulation advancements (increase damage, upgrade walls, faster resource gathering, new heroes, building LOS, hospital healing rate, ect.) That's my rant for today. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

But, instead of posting some, I'm going to as for help with Lost Souls, on a recently-gotten-working Mac emulator. Level 7, just can't get anywhere. Any advice? (Yes, the original purpose of this thread was spam, but after stuffing it up I decided to actually ask a question that I do have rather than making another thread for it and allowing people to ridicule me for my failed spamming attempt. But Thuryl beat me to it.) EDIT : Never mind, I beat it, destroying the other purpose of this thread. Sorry. I think turrets and mines are rather like bacteria. They live, they perform actions, but they do not of their own conscious thought but just because that is how they are made. A virus cannot help attacking cells. I consider my own creations to be sentient beings as soon as I give them so much as one point of Intelligence. Until that, they're bacteria. But once I do, I get my character to protect them with his life, as they do for me. Geneforge, to me, seems less post-apocalyptic and more pre-apocalyptic. All the new technology, the discovery of megapowerful creations, the growing conflict, it all seems to lead up to the fantasy equivalent of nuclear devastation, or some such. I don't remember any hookers in Fallout. Then again, it has been a while since I last played it. Anyway, Cresent Valley doesn't really deserve a rating of Adult. For one thing, it's strangely censored, and for another, it just doesn't manage to be sexual. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

Depending upon the scale of "the entire world", I suppose the Ramayana could be technically considered, (as it is the entire world within the scope of the story), but that's all I can really think of. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

I am fairly sure this has something to do with either the Orb of Thralni or telling you to go to the Tower of Magi and learn a new spell as a reward. Probably the latter, though you can always go check with the person guarding the Orb just in case. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |

I'd say the arcs were not actually black, but just very dark blue/green/red/whatever. When spun, they would blur with the white background and produce the illusion that they were lighter, thus you would see red or blue or whatever. -------------------- ~Note : The professional newbie's advice should not be taken seriously, or at all.~ LINKAGE Posts: 364 | Registered: Saturday, January 17 2004 08:00 |
