Narcissism combined with avoidant behaviour. I have some troubles figuring out how one suffering from that combination would act. He would probably hang out on the net, trying to interact with people while protected by his anonymity. Hahahah. Haha. Ha. Ha?

The Simpsons, though it is repetitive.

Samurai Jack, though it is repetitive.

I also watch the Bold and the Beautiful. Ridge died just yesterday, can you believe it? Our beloved ADONIS died FALLING INTO A ****ING OVEN! (that's right, an oven). First this heartbreaking tragedy, where Brooke, Ridge, Sheila and that beard-guy Massimo fought with each other (uuh, what stunts!). Then Sheila knocked out Brooke into a BIG ****ING KETTLE that started moving towards the FLAMING OVEN! Brooke was almost doomed but all of a sudden her Ridge came FLYING towards her, HANGING IN A ROPE LIKE TARZAN (uuh, he had no shirt!)

He dump out Brooke just in time, but then the rope snapped and he... snirf... so horrible... HE FELL INTO THE OVEN... and there was this HUGE EXPLOSION... and Ridge BURNED UP!!! They showed this on TV yesterday, I'm not kidding!! Can anyone even think of something more ****ING SENSELESS!!??

I checked what will happen next. Ridge will return after six episodes. Phew.

Amen to that, Cavanoskus! Word to word!

I love the skill screen drawings, though. At first I had some problems accepting them but now they're a part of my spine. I don't generally approve of the Avernum world getting more plastic in look and feel, but those drawings are priceless.

Even so, they are another reason to keep Exile and Avernum apart. Let nothing defile the holy script(ure)!

Polar bears are good for the business. They attract stupid Englishmen. And more importantly, stupid Germans.

No offence, Englishers and Germans. We really like you. In fact, why don't you come to Finland and take a look at our awesome polar bears?

The idyllic city of Lovisa. The word 'idyllic' should never be left unmentioned in this context. We're in the middle of a brainwashing campaign. Lovisa is a dying town and we should always keep luring new people here. Don't think you're going to stop me this time, either.

IMAGE(http://www.ngw.nl/int/fin/l/images/loviisa.jpg)
The city arms. There should be a 'count-crown' on the top, too. The cannons symbolize Lovisa's importance as a (former) bordertown. The anchor symbolizes our (former) importance as a notable harbour.

And, Lovisa is the home of Finland's first nuclear power plant! Where I, coincidentially, work! Half of Lovisa does.

Suppose Kelandon is right and A4 is about a war between the Empire and the Vahnatai. What role would the avernites play in that conflict? It seems likely that Avernum (and Upper Avernum) immidiately would be conquered by the Vahnatai. With Erika dead Avernum wouldn't stand a chance.

Would the Empire care enough to put up a real fight for the caves? How would the avernites feel getting caught between two major powers? They would be forced to pick sides. Might they even join the Vahnatai? I think most people down there still recall the Empire war, and how they Vahnatai helped them out. And the Vahnatai haven't really got any quarrel with Avernum (though it's hard to predict how they would act).

Ok, so that was rambling. Now to the reason of this post. In case of a Empire vs. Vahnatai war, would it be to radical to play as a Vahnatai? Maybe even something like Nethergate, in which you can play the same adventure seen from both sides? I think the idea is rather interesting, but I don't think Jeff would agree.

I wonder what the new major threat will be? Epic plots need epic conflict.

The Empire isn't very likely to turn upon Avernum once more. And the Vahnatai... they tried to destroy the world in Exile 3, already. I think they aren't likely to try that again. Not as soon as in part 4, at least.

So there is need for a new enemy. A new race? It would really force people to reforge their picture of Exile. I'm not sure I would like it.

Maybe internal conflicts within the Empire? Possible. But maybe still not epic enough for my tastes. More like a BoE scenario. Exile isn't about diplomacy, it's about killing things and stealing their stuff. And epic adventure.

From what perspective will the adventure be played? So far it has always been from that of the exiles. What now? Will you play as a member of the Empire? This will naturally have a great impact on the 'major conflict', whatever that will be.

Indeed; if they would talk to you longer, they would be sure of it.

EDIT (in which I apologize): Blah. My secret jokester ability isn't what it once was. Have patience with me.

EDIT2 (in which I come to think of something): This balloon-incident couldn't be classified as a homosexual experience, could it? I mean, a homosexual experience would be one in which you think a member of the same sex is hot. Basically, this is what has happened here, but does it count? If you thought he was a she?

If it doesn't count, I think very few men ever have homosexual experiences. Except for gays, of course. And excluding the chance you get raped by a big burly spaniard.

mef: I don't quite understand what you're talking about.

Puppet Account: As Stughalf ( and I) said, we are talking about totally equal people. Would you kill 1 innocent person to save 1000 just as innocent ones? The point is that they are all equal, in every way. Hypotethical of course, but that's what this is all about.

Stug: You fail at math if you think one life is worth no less than a thousand lives. Why couldn't lives be compared to apples? Anything can be compared, as long as you have the same stuff on both sides of the scale. Apples, souls, whatever.

You are responsible for what you don't do, as well as for what you do. Would you really lower your gun and kill a thousand? It would be your fault, make no mistake.

One could take the scenario to the extrem. What if you could, by killing one innocent man, save all other humans on Earth from instant death (no, lets make that slow, painful death just to test the limits of your ethics). Would you still hesitate?

It all about numbers, why don't you all realize it? Screw values and ethical choices, in the end it all comes down to cold facts and logical reasoning. Mathematics. You would all kill innocent people with your bare hands, if that would be required.

Ugh. I wrote an obscenely long answer and then realized it had nothing to do with anything. I don't agree with Socrates or his daimonions, though. I think he's a wacko.

I seldom speak for what I really think. Protecting the ego and all that. And someone has to stand up for the wacko ideas.

Isn't it, in a way, impossible to work against your morals? If you feel shoplifting is bad, and still shoplift, might you not have misjudged your own moral sense? Maybe you don't feel it's that bad after all?

If you think murder under no circumstances is acceptable, and still murder so that someone close to you might live, haven't you got it all wrong? It would seem that you think murder can be justified under some extrem circumstances. If you really would be a 100% against the thought... well, how could you do it? A sign that your moral isn't so flawless after all, I would think.

You might do something you know others will think is wrong, and you might feel bad about it. But the fact that you still actually did it would suggest that you find it "doable" after all. It isn't completely wrong, it is possible to justify it. A shade of grey on your moral scale, maybe.

Yeah, I love to be the underdog. So go ahead and own me.

I'm not sure I understand. This, if anything, seems to be an ethical question. Would you or would you not.

I wouldn't. I hope I never get that close to someone. Who could that person be? A member of my family? A friend? A lover? No, I would not do it for any of these. I also agree with Alorael, it would take guts I don't have.

PS. Why not go down to Columbia and buy the heart of some unfortunate beggar? I hear you get them cheap and fresh this time of year. :P

Finns don't burn bonfires on Alla Helgons Afton (which would be our version of Halloween). Not anymore, at least.

All we do is visit the graves of persons close to us, and lit candles. Which isn't extraordinary in any way, as we do the same on Christmas.

The bonfires are a chapter for themselves. We burn them on The first of May, Easter and Midsummer. As far as I know, it has nothing to do with Celtic traditions. It's more of a Christian thing. On certain days of the year, the dark forces can ramble free (the time between Jesus's death and his ressurection, for example). Fire keeps them away. It's that simple.

We Swedish-speaking Finns don't burn bonfires on Midsummer, which is a Carelian tradition. On the other hand, we celebrate "The day of the Ancient Fires". Which includes bonfires. It's all a mess, if you ask me.
