See, that's what I call being narrow-minded. A piece of music consists of four components: rhythm, melody, harmony and lyrics. Of these, melody is most important, closely followed by lyrics and harmony (this is how I think, some would place harmony above lyrics and perhaps above all).

Lyrics are what define a piece of music, and add the meaningful dimension. Songs are indeed messages, not just some sweet notes arranged in a row for your amusement. A piece of music without words can never convey such thoughts and feeling as a song with really good lyrics.

One can indeed judge music by the lyrics. I don't listen to rap or hip hop, since they don't give me any kicks. I'm not familiar with their world and the values they preach are silly. In conclusion, I cannot listen to a good piece of music if the words and the message are pathetic. I can bring myself to listen to a crappy melody if the words are intriguing (including Bob Dylan, as you mentioned). Music is not made just to satisfy my sense for beauty, it is much more. I don't listen to it only in order to get cheap satisfaction.

Eh. I first thought this would be some senseless rant against the American hormon-stuffed athletes.

As for stray dogs, I guess they're better of dead. Poisoning them seems a bit cruel, but catching them, tagging them and sterilizing them is a mindless idea.

A Dutchman and an Old English Sheepdog. The Dutchman's name is Johann Verkerk, but we usually just call him Bongo. The Old English Sheepdog is named Fifi.

Alas, I have no pics.

My poetry takes 40-50 damage when translated into English. Yes, I am trying to hide the fact that they suck in any language.

Rosy's poem was actually good. Very good, except for some minor cliches. How old were you when you wrote that?

He must - of course - point out how stupid we are.

It makes him feel good, so we usually don't ask him difficult questions. But you are new and should be forgiven.

Actually, it's more smooth. And not quite so fast.

I've read about a man from Norway who said that the most beautiful sentence in the world is "hevonen juoksee sillalla".

Oh, and it means "a horse runs on a bridge". Weird.

Plus, now I'm forever a saint in your eyes. Even if I start kicking old people. The best way to go about it is really to not rank people at all. Or maybe do it on the day before Armageddon.

Which is weird, right? Why would a land-living creature develop tentacles? You have to assume they are for grasping things with, maybe stuffing in food in the mouth. And why would any creature develop both arms and tentacles?

The huge brains of the Illithids would suggest they are a highly advanced race, so why do they still carry a bunch of tentacles in their face? Is there magic in them or what? Humans understood to get rid of useless tails a long time ago, hah!

I liked Johnny Quest. Didn't they advertise him with the slogan "The Real Adventure!" or something like that. That was exactly what it was, though.

He-Man was silly. Or is silly, as you can watch our beloved prince beating the violet skeleton every Saturday morning in Finland. Retro is in over here, you see. I try to wake up in time to watch it, just for the laughs.

I don't see why ben's got only one star. His grammar is perfect, he doesn't abuse gremlins and the poll was actually good.

Also, I asked about karma when I first came here which resulted in me getting about nine votes and two stars. And I even asked people to rank me, which must be the most provocative action one can take. Yes, those were the days...

The Finnish language cannot be translated by simple man-made machines. It's that good.

This is useful:

Religion, Homosexuality, the Usual in General
Lifecrafter

This is hard to explain, but I'll try. I like many of my male friends very much. I don't love them, but I see how it could be possible if the feelings were stronger. Is that what homosexuality is? Also, there's the culture thing. In many ancient cultures men loved each other very strongly, without being gay (I'm over-using the word love here but I hope you get my meaning).

Nowadays people think of homosexuality as a genetical trait, but is it really more than love? I approve of homosexuality at all levels, but I think I could "approve more" if it truly isn't anything but feelings. Saying that it's genetical does make it sound like an disease, doesn't it?

Of course, this alone doesn't justify homosexuality. Pedophilia is wrong even if you really had true feelings for the children (which seems to be quite common among pedophiles). This is where the moral comes in (I take a utilitarian stand in this one). Homosexuality doesn't hurt anyone, and thus there is nothing wrong with it.

This might have sounded crude and even cruel, but that's one point of view.

If I remember correctly, Cryoas have a 30% greater chance to hit in combat than Fyoras. I suspect they also get hit less often. This is really the main reason people swap Fyoras for Cryoas.

Stephen King is certainly not stuck with one formula. He is, no matter what you say, much more than a horror and nostalgic-novel writer.

Well, maybe not much, but still. King is best known for his horror, true, but if you dig a little deeper I think you'll be surprised.

And I have never read Shakespeare. I tried once, but he was boring. And I refuse to read something boring, Shakespeare or not, when there's loads of good books and plays in the world.
