I think I speak for everyone when I say that the world really doesn't need booty-shaking panda-badgers. -------------------- "'I saw the duckling hatch and disappear. Sadly I ask who may have taken it.'" Posts: 67 | Registered: Monday, June 28 2004 07:00 |

Rabbits, due to their generally weak diet, do not get enough food out of normal digestion to sustain themselves. It is for this reason that they have a caecum -- an organ closely related to the human appendix -- almost as large as their lower bowels. The caecum is a dead end in the bowel, and contains many bacteria which can create invaluable fatty acids and vitamins for the rabbits which would otherwise go without. The problem is that the bacteria cannot break down whole food in the same manner as the intestines. So healthy rabbits produce a specific type of feces called caecotrophs in the morning intended for consumption, which will then be taken into the caecum and broken down by the symbiotic bacteria. THE MORE YOU KNOW. [ Saturday, July 03, 2004 00:48: Message edited by: Ultimate Weapon Custer ] -------------------- The biggest, the baddest, and the fattest. This seems like a perfect moment for a redux of my lecture on the ferret mating process, but I believe I'll give it a pass. Unless, of course, there is sufficient public demand to make it worth my while... -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. That rabbit lecture made me think of some 'alternative' medicine: http://skepdic.com/urine.html Some animals dance lambada: Some other mammals prefer riding bicycles: Posts: 950 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |
