We don't celebrate pagan feasts, you heathen. We burn huge bonfires to keep the dark forces at bay, and pray to all saints available.

Honestly, what has become of evil if people celebrate it by dressing funny and whine for candy? That's pathetic. Poor evil. Another one bites the dust.

M.R.James could probably help you with the ghost stories.

The next person who is planning to leave could leave behind some sort of (preferably mysterious) message. "If I suddenly disappear, call this number/contact this person/go to Paddington station and look behind the third bench from the right".

Already I can see the chain of clues that would lead us from the smoky bars of New Orleans through the cafés of downtown Paris and (preferably) end in a wild car chase somewhere on the Siberian tundra. Druglords and mafia enforcers would also be great. And exploding helicopters.

Think you could do that? Please?

Dragons have more personality than most (I don't consider Exiles and Imperials to be monsters, though I suppose you could). Technically there's only five of them, but still.

Yes, you are all faceless freaks to me. And please, no more picture threads. I'm very happy with you being faceless freaks. The thought that you would be persons is scary as hell. I mean, I would have to start thinking about what I say. Maybe even care about what you say. And treat you with respect! And stop pretending to be what I'm not!

Please, be faceless freaks. Everybody will have a better time.

Who is your favorite exile? in The Exile Trilogy

Patrick. He was obviously jealous of Erica, Solberg and the more powerful wizards, but still did all he could for Exile. And he even managed to live the good life, with his wife. I think he is one of the more intriguing personalities in Exile.

Of course, if you'd get to choose from all the Exiles, I'd say Nance and Elspeth. They're not deep or anything like that, but they give the whole Exile thing a human face. They hang around from the beginning to the end, and their fates impersonate that of Exile's. Their characters are thin as paper, and still they somehow manage to change during the trilogy.

Of course, there are many other characters that also hang along. But Nance and Elspeth are still... the most human. The innocent. Those who suffer. Those who flee the war rather than go kicking Empire arse. Those who get separated and reunited. Those who actually live their lives. It's hard to explain, but I don't think I've found anything similar to them in other games.

No, Thuryl is stupid too. He's just good at pretending not to be. Short sentences and long words usually do the trick. Watch and learn, son.

Of course, none of this matters since you are stupid too. We are all stupid. Better run through the jungle.

My theory on stupid people. in General

Heeeyy, a stupid theory topic. I once made a theory on stupid people. The basic idea was that they really, really are stupid. Stupid as in stupid. It was the poor man's revenge towards the all-people-are-equal-and-good stuff I had been fed for all my life. Because people aren't equal. Some are stupid. Then I realized I was no different in their eyes. Oh. A pity. I was rather unwilling to give up my theory, however, and so I settled for the following:

If you are a person, people think you are stupid. You think you are not stupid. Sadly, you are stupid. This because of the fact that you think you are not stupid. If you think you are stupid, you probably are, too.

I know. I'm rather amazed myself. It's like a philosophy. Just accept that people really are stupid heaps of dung no smarter than you. I guarantee your life will be much easier and happier. It's like... nirvana. The simple life. Freedom from almost everything. You'll realize how life was meant to be lived.

1. There is no right or wrong moral system.

2. There might be a right moral system, but we have no chance of knowing it and living by it. Which leads us to point one.

You must define what "right" is. Believe me, no divine/supernatural/cosmologicl thing will come and tell you the "ultimate thruth and how things should be done etc". When you have defined thruth and right, live that way. You don't know if it's right, but it's the best you've got.

Not hurting people is not "right". It's just that people prefer having it that way. If you like it, follow that code. It isn't the ultimate thruth, but it can be quite nice, nontheless.

Crimes are defined by belief systmes. Laws are based on belief systems. Crime is not more or less than law. It's just different ways of looking at something.

Of course, if you don't want to spend your life in jail, you'd better follow the widely accepted belief system we know as "don't steal from others - don't hurt others". Aka the law. Democracy rules.

Why do I always end up with so twisted views? I shouldn't think so much.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and I hoped this had something to do with the first post.

This, I believe, would be a fiercely interesting game: Skip the useless level-building since you already have Demonslayer, Giantslayer, Smite, etc, and have every tactical challenge revolve around the situations of the members of the expedition- each chapter could be the story of each member. (And it's not assumed that every one of them died- just that their equipment scattered. After all, there IS a physical exit to Exile/Avernum at that point, and since falling off of a cliff inevitably means that the person is still alive, it's plenty feasible that they might only be assumed to be dead.) The various chapters would be gauntlets where the single party member could have people join his/her crew, and most paths end in slaughter- there would be lots of fleeing.

Unfortunately, there would be few (if any) goblin dungeons and little senseless slaughtering. So much for that idea.

I think leveling up your character is a huge part of the fun. Along with finding and stealing exciting new stuff from the still warm corpses. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to put it all on one card - which would be the plot. Don't overestimate the tactical combat part. I don't think it would be that much of a bait. Surely not with standard players who just want a standard RPG.

So yes, I'm kicking the ass of my own suggestion. Not a very commercial concept. Someone could try it out in a BoA scenario, though.

Djur: I wasn't speaking literally. Just pointing out that A4 would give the whole Avernum saga a good shake, maybe even unbalance it a little. Which we all know, of course.

EDIT: Okay then, so unbalance it a lot.

I think it is great news, as I never thought of BoA as an Avernum game at all. I also agree with Alorael, it's a fine world and we've been away for too long already.

Then to the bad part. All great works come in trilogies. I can't see how Jeff could squeeze out something new and engaging from the world of Avernum. It's all been used by now, really. The beginning, the struggle and the end. If unlucky, we will just recieve some poor BoA-like extended scenario, which has nothing to do with Avernum itself.

I'm not saying Jeff couldn't pull it off. I just don't see how he's going to do it. He must have something really special in mind, though, if he's ressurecting that olde beast. Let's hope he simply surprises us all and blows our minds away.
