quote:I would be VERY sad. quote:1. Maybe you are more open online 2. Maybe you just do not get immediate clues about the reactions that you elicit as you get in r/l. 3. Maybe the online community is more patient in pointing out things to you because they have not yet given up on you. I, for my part, find that I have to be more careful online with what I write. There are many more people who read and comment than when I say anything in r/l. It is an ongoing tough education for me and I feel I am still not there yet. Sometimes after a long rant, I do not return to the thread for several days just to calm down. Sometimes when the answer is three screenfuls after my single screen post, I just give up. I do not have the stamina to go on and on and on as I would in r/l. Posts: 311 | Registered: Friday, February 13 2004 08:00 |

The trouble starts when cyber reality and r/l meet. Example: Queen of the skies was suspended from her job because she posted this "inappropiate" photo: Blogger's trouble No textile malfunction - just a smile and a lapse of media hygiene, namely separation of r/l from cyber identity. Anonymity is fine and well as long as you don't post a picture of the uniform of your company. :P [ Wednesday, October 27, 2004 01:57: Message edited by: I Am A Puppet Account ] -------------------- "Toleration is not the opposite of intoleration, but is the counterfeit of it. You mean she should have taken off that uniform before having that picture taken? I doubt it. Posts: 311 | Registered: Friday, February 13 2004 08:00 |

It's not like there's a logo or company name somewhere — I have no idea which airline that is offhand. Also, what exactly are they objecting to? I would think that an airline would profit from the perception that they have sexy flight attendants. It's not like there's any nudity — it's just her legs. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Oh, in the US they have... other concepts of what constitutes nudity or immoral photos? -------------------- The Encyclopaedia Ermariana <-- Now a Wiki! I have no idea what Weedy is getting at. I am from the U.S. I'd think that I'd have some idea of what constitutes actual nudity in the U.S., and legs do not. Lasciviousness, maybe, but nudity, no. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Well, maybe in the Deep South, legs constitute nudity, but not in the North or the West. I'm just trying to imagine the argument that they made: "By posing in a sexually provocative picture, you gave the company a reputation of sexual immorality among its fight attendants." I still say that would increase revenues, not decrease them. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Of course, but it is immoral to say so. I can imagine they gave her a hefty bonus or something like that. BTW, fight attendants on a plane? Wow. -------------------- ahhahaha i rule u droool Posts: 756 | Registered: Monday, August 4 2003 07:00 |

quote:What is your life like, how do the ladies around you dress everyday, what ads and cover pages do you see everyday that you associate this picture with "Lasciviousness" - in California? Catholic Europe is getting wound up over head scarves as islamist symbols of female suppression and - possibly in a subconscious counterreaction - bare midriff tops are worn at protestant confirmations and christian funerals. In comparison, this friendly smiling girl is dressed very decently in a casual inconspicuous uniform, imho. If they had asked her to suppress her ID badge on the photo I could understand, but ... she should rather be recognized for scaring off islamists passengers. Some incident in old Troy comes to mind with nude females marching towards an insane warrior in order to calm him down with a healthy shock. Forgot who it was. Might even fit into some RP or some scenario. Ha, and some nudist "No bush" demos - don't you remember? I wonder whether that will get me banned here? Not sure about desper-support - these are no goats. [ Thursday, October 28, 2004 05:51: Message edited by: No 2 Methylphenidate ] Posts: 311 | Registered: Friday, February 13 2004 08:00 |

I personally don't feel that it's obscene or pornographic at all. If I get complaints, I might transform the pictures into links. ...however, what I do feel is an intense sorrow for the people lying naked in the snow in the first picture, though. :P Posts: 3234 | Registered: Thursday, October 4 2001 07:00 |

Hmmmm I guess they were "indoor nudists" the one with a tan throws the picture off. As for the Airline attendant- I thought that nudity was manditory on planes. Was that just some weird exception? Posts: 564 | Registered: Wednesday, April 14 2004 07:00 |

quote:I said that I could sort of see the picture as suggestive of sexual immorality if one were highly conservative, but I personally don't think it's particularly obscene. And as far as I can tell, because of that statement, you suggest through this rhetorical question that the picture is not obscene. Yeah. That's what I just said. So what's your point? Sorry. I've just gotten a headache trying to figure out what you're trying to say. It sounds like you're criticizing me for saying something that agrees with what you're saying. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
