I once tried to check into an insane asylum because I was feeling depressed. I spent an hour in intake and they told me that I wasn't crazy to leave and not come back because I was basically rational and sane given my circumstances. I learned that it is very hard to prove that you are insane unless you actively try to be that way or really are insane. Once you've proved you are insane it becomes very hard to prove you are not-- SSI is a one way ticket in the United States which is nearly impossible to leave. Don't check into an asylum unless you want to be on a permanent exit ticket or really are in trouble. My family is a bit rough around the edges but nobody is ready to check into an asylum. There is a little bit of depression, some drug use, and a bit of compulsiveness but that is it. Therapy helps most people. Cut scene error. In the meanwhile section of the scenario there is an unhandled exception error for XP users. I updated my XP to service pack 2 and the unhandled exception error changed to a new error. There was another error like this in A Perfect Forest. I am not sure what to do. The error in a Perfect Forest was due to a terrain problem, in the HLPM there was a character facing error. Both were minor coding mistakes. I am guessing that after XP is updated to Service Pack 2 for most people it will be possible to fix the error. I am not sure of this, however. I am not a coder. We cannot know what will be in Avernum 4. Therefore it must be assumed that all Blades of Avernum scenarios take place in parallel but different worlds. All of which of course are reachable by the scenario and character editor. If you want to fool around if you have the door script error; I did something kind of insane and a little bit fun. You can use the editor to remove your party from the initial town and wander around the scenario. You cannot enter any doors though. Only doors which are curtained. After a while you can remove your party from the scenario. You will get a couple of interesting items but not much else. When you do this, there are constant errors-- terrain errors, door errors, bugbear errors, etc. But it is kind of interesting. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Think cold war. Increasing rebellious activity in the empire-- with arms supplied by both the Vahnati and elements in Avernum. Quickfire and plague treaty with Vahnati. Magical arms escalation. Contested border disputes with the Vahnati, Slith, and Empire. Hidden Vahnati bases in Avernum and the Empire. Think imperial help versus the invading slith hordes and intrigue with the Vahnati. Lots more room for intrigue, a greater variety of spells, crafting and advanced alchemy skills, advanced fighting skills, more items, many more monster types, a better ability to include traps including mines, trapped chests. Improved animations, cut scenes, and ability to add up to 4 NPCs I'd think. Improved dialogue and monster AI. Ugg, lets think a moment. I know eventually, I will have to buy a cable modem. What is the best service balancing between cheap and reliability? I have no desire to have cable tv. I do not want cable tv, even if I have a cable modem. Understanding enough about DSL to realize that I want a phone on my phone line not two lines, or one line with DSL. I think I would rather have a computer in the future. Overcloaking and all those other things sound kind of dangerous. My computer is pretty strong right now. After looking at different download managers, the main advantage is the ability to restart an interrupted download at a later time. Restarting downloads is a pain. As far as increasing speed without buying cable, I think a faster chip, more ram, regular defrag and scandisk, a good cooling fan will all speed up your computer small amounts. As far as settings are concerned-- an internet accelerator helps a bit, but not much. I am not touching the config files-- I think I could really mess up the computer. I think I might try Firefox because it sounds more reliable plus it has a built in download manager. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Being cheap, I do not want to buy an internet cable connection. I have tried a few things to speed up my computer-- install an internet accelerator program, upgrade my ram from 128 mb, to 256 mb of ram. Have low cache settings. Time reqular disk cleanup and defragmenting. According to the industry standards, a cable modem runs about $40-50 a month plus the cost of the modem. This is expensive. I am looking at getting a good download accelerator like www.getright.com. Are there any good freeware download accelerators... My other question is about firefox. What is included with it? I am hoping a strategy element will be added to the game. After a certain level you can gain leadership and influence points. This would allow you to command small scale skirmishes. Also it would allow you to make decisions which would affect other parts of the map. I know that troops can join you in small battles. It would be neat if you could buy units to accompany you after a certain level. You could extend the titles after level 50 with this kind of arrangement-- lord, knight, baron, etc. Also a crafting skill would be cool. You could put together different magical items. This would be in addition to alchemy. I think alchemy is a very cool thing. A lot of strategy games do not use 3d graphics. They are 2d. I think the best thing would be to increase the available options for strategy, roleplaying, and the creation of magical items.
