Wow. Somehow we are evolutionarily challenged if we are stupid. This argument has become so standard. It seems to crop up everywhere. Linking ethnicity and intelligence to creationism is a tremendous mental step. I'm not sure in which direction... Some people are so intuitive on the question of race on this board. They can make great leaps forward. It baffles me. The bible is an allegory about living for me. I especially like the proverbs and psalms. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Deistic evolution makes more sense than creationism. The idea that is god laid down all the laws of the universe-- physics, biology, etc. then turned on the light so to speak and only intervenes occassionally. The bible is not a textbook on astronomy or biology. It cannot explain evolutionary change. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Mugwump grasped the dragons hoard and began a long slow jog. He headed deeper into the caverns with the treasure. He had to be alert at all times. It was especially dangerous in this area. He stopped for a moment and took out a small bottle. He rubbed the stink beetle musk on him to keep away the giant insects. His eyes smarted and he choked on the smell. He jogged steadily forward taking quick darting looks around him. Giant mushrooms grew up between patches of lava. Red acidic rot dripped from the cavern walls. He could hear the rustling of giant ants and millipedes. He saw the stone marker for the path up ahead. Suddenly a giant grey wolf spider jumped at him knocking him to the ground. He thrust his trident between its jaws, then drove the mithril blade into its belly. The spiders leg scrabbled at him. He pushed the beast off him. Then he pulled the trident and sword out. He started running as fast he could. He could hear the rustles of insects closing in on the corpse. Even stink beetle couldn't keep the teeming underground jungle from the smell of blood. A living stalagmite fell barely brushing against him. Its cilia scraped at his legs. He ran deeper into the caverns. He dared not stop, the bloody ichor of the spider had splashed all over him. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted a giant stag battle. Adrenaline pumped into him and he ran. He could hear the clicking behind him. He kept running. Luckily he passed another marker stone. The jungle cleared into a paved road. The beetle was close behind him. Then several arrows sprouted from the beetle. He saw a small tower up ahead. It was a thin spire of grey stone. The jungle had been cleared around the base of the tower. Braziers of smoking stink beetle flesh kept the insects at bay. He ran forward panting. A line of eight troll bowmen fired into the teeming mass of insects behind him. Three huge burly ogres in spiked mail with massive swords stood in his path. He kept running. The tower door was open. He pushed past them aiming for the door. Then he ran into a troll in black armor. A six legged alien beast was at his side. A pile of giant insects lay behind him, methodically shot stabbed and shot to pieces. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Mugwump picked up his trident. He always fought with trident and sword. He grabbed the remaining sack leaving by the back entrance. He slammed the gate behind him runing for the lava bed. Mugwump was a fire troll. The warmth of the hot coals amd burning lava energized him. The wounds on his body began to close smoothly. He put on his wizard glasses. The shadows lightened and the air took on a light blue cast. The invisible world opened to him. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Mugwump heard the sounds of battle coming from near the front of the cave. He slipped past the distracted dragon and went into the twisty corridors which the dragon could not reach. He pulled a lever set into the wall and a heavy portcullis fell into place. Then he went back further into the cave checking to see that the pit traps were properly set. Finally, he shoveled some coal into furnace to get the burning room hot. He turned the demon golem on and went to his secret room. Then mugwump opened the tunnel to fire pit caverns in case he needed to escape. He started to stuff the part of the dragons hoard which he had stolen into a large sack... -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Sorry, new character. Mugwump liked to hide in the back recesses of the dragons cave. He was a rather large flaming troll. He was also very quiet. He possessed a ring which allowed him to become invisible even in battle. Every once in a while the dragon would try to get him. He would stand in one of the narrow corridors and bask in the warm glow of the dragons flaming breath. Then the dragon would curse him sending his snakes after him. Mugwump would turn invisible and wait quietly for the snakes to try and find him. After a while, when they got the snakes tired, he would kill one for a snack. Mugwump lived in a concealed passage in the dragons cave. Sometimes he wished he wasn't a troll. He liked to read philosophy. He even had a pair of fine mages spectacles. Sometimes, he would take long walks pondering the quiet woods near the dragons cave. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Phiz thought wow those proceeds from a book are most tempting, Darixen must be a true idiot. He probably still thinks I am a mages apprentice. He reached into his voluminous mages robes fishing among the many pockets he had sewn into the insides of the robe where he could hide various pilfered items and pulled out a lollipop of alertness an alchemical treat he had learned to make and began sucking on it. He reminisced briefly about how he came to be an apprentice mage. One day he had been wandering on the road as he often did, having had to run from the last town he was in, humming a tune, when he saw some ogres assault a mage. He promptly hid behind a tree. The ogres drew their weapons and attacked the mage. The mage cast a spell of lightning felling them except for the leader who in his dying breath mashed the mages head. Phiz ran out pilfering the bodies. He found a letter on the mage saying seeking able apprentices for school of magery, capital city of Murgo. He put on the mages robes which for some reason had not gotten blood spattered on them, took the mages books and dagger, and gathered whatever small valuables he could get. Phiz headed happily towards the capital. He eventually made it to Rasputin's School of Magery. Showing the letter, he was at once given access to the school. He never once tried to go to the admissions office but instead wandered through the school, slipping into lectures, and visiting the various laboratories. When he made it into the alchemical laboratories his eyes lit up. He found the mixing of chemicals to be fascinating. He even took enough of a liking to the subject to steal a loose textbook and read it from cover to cover. He searched through the library gathering materials on Pixie Dust, Blinding Flash Powder, Gremlin Wine, Healing and Curing potions, and other stuff in case he got sick. He found a small room to rent in the music district and promptly stocked it with lots of stolen library books. Eventually, the admissions office noticed him, but not until three months had passed with full run of the school. Headmistress Rasputin chased him out of the school throwing bang caps at him until he was far from the school. He tried to sneak back but was turned away by a giant cat with a spear at the entrance named Mowgli. Phiz moped for a while. He went to a local tavern and listened to stories from the hero Darixen. Darixen said he was wondering if he would ever write a book, but he had never paid attention to writing. Phiz overheard and suggested he might be able to help, he being a mage new how to read and write. Darixen promptly accepted. Phiz was delighted with Darixen around no one would expect him of being a thief. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Phiz stumbled over to the table dropping the books in a heap. Then he offered to buy Darixen a drink bumping into him and the bartender accidentally. Darixen said hey watch where you are going Phiz. Phiz mumbled sorry then excused himself to the bathroom. Phiz locked the door behind him and begin counting the coins and gems he had pocketed from Darixen, the bartender, and the other patrons. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. There are a few situational quests. 1) You have been framed prove your innocence. 2) You have amnesia figure out who you are. 3) You are asked to do something which turns out to be a hoax. 4) You receive an inheritance/gift now you must collect it. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. What makes a quest interesting is if finishing the quest gets you rewards that would have not been readily available in the game. There are a few variations on your list. 1. Protecting a person on a journey. 2. Talking to various creatures/npc's to gather enough information to solve a problem. Having to talk to three npcs to get the final answer for a fourth NPC. 3. Solve a mystery. Gather several pieces of "evidence"-- items to solve a happening-- murder, theft, disappearance. 4. Sequential journey. Required to go to three locations in sequence. Religious pilgrimage, or exploring expedition. 5. Purposefully unsolvable quest-- find a beast which does not exist or always runs away, item that never existed. This might be interesting. You never complete the quest, but you get hints along the way. Ends in unsolved quest or proof that item did not exist. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Creator, small people are generally faster than big people, less weight involved. A middle weight boxer will often win against a heavy weight fighter because of better maneuverability and speed. Also they make smaller targets. With weapons speed is more important strength most of the time. I like being anonymous it allows me to have a much greater degree of freedom. This is valid in a cerebral sort of way, but not much else. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I am interested in finding out about good shareware and freeware strategy games. Some of the best I have found are http://www.apezone.com -- Starships Unlimited, http://www.discordtimes.com, and of course Spiderweb games. Most of the current games I am seeing in the stores are overly complex garbage with the exception of Civilization. Anybody have any suggestions. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Put Al Franken in a debate with Rush Limbaugh and Limbaugh would last about five minutes. Limbaugh sounds good only when he doesn't have someone to check his idiocies. Back to sound biting. I hear that if you live in Florida there are so many political commercials for Bush and Kerry that there are no regular product advertisements anymore on television. It has gotten so bad that you can turn on the television and watch the news getting political commentary on the Kerry and Bush campaigns, then watch several commercials about Bush and Kerry interspersed between commercial breaks. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. What I want to see is an animation of Michael Moore and Rush Limbaugh put in a boxing ring and forced to beat the hell out of each other. Have Howard Stern as the judge. It would be amusing. Then we could have a wrestling match between Noam Chomsky and William F. Buckley judged by William F. Lehrer. Why do Americans have to have political messages turned into idiotic one liners designed to be repeated by talk show hosts? It is getting both ridiculous and moronic. Are the candidates trying to reach unemployed people drinking beer in their boxer shorts? Is this the vision of the undecided voter. Somehow politics and the nightly news has become nothing more than sound bite infotainment. This movie couldn't have been made a success without the current political environment. Anything that is entertaining to the voter goes. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. The idea of a Jewish state has been around for quite a while. It happened primarily because the Russians drove the Russian Jews out of Russia during the late pogroms in the 19th century. There had been Zionists in Israel since the 1880s. There were three successive waves out of Russia settled in the land then called Palestine and now called Israel. The holocaust was the fourth wave of settlers heading to Israel. The British new before leaving they could not prevent a war for control of the land. The myth that Israel came about out of nothing is an interesting one. There was a lot of preparation beforehand. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Finished reading Elizabeth Moon's Trading In Danger, and Marque and Reprisal-- both are quick action packed science fiction, as well as the Dark Tower VII-- the illustrations by Michael Whelan for this book are truly fantastic. Reading a new book called The First Idea How Symbols, Language, and Intelligence Evolved From Our Primate Ancestors To Modern Humans by Stanley Greenspan and Stuart Shanker. This book is thick, heavy, slow, and full of ideas. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. These forums have demonstrated an incredibly amount of tolerance to obnoxious rhetorical statements. I feel that I can say almost anything without compunction because the members will say something so off the wall that and senseless that anything I say will be mild in comparison. I have been actively seeking one star status but I cannot compete with Burglar Ben or FatBatMonkey in their statements. I envy thee. This movie is something which I'll wait a long time to see. It is not something which looks like it would be worth seeing in the theater.
