I have a moral compass. I bought it at a garage sale for $5. Both Jesus and Muhammed are prophetable because they are prophetic. However they are not poetic like Kahlil Gibran the Prophet. I think anger which is the root of hatred is a major cause for evil in this lord. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Democracy is not egalitarian in nature. The concept of the demos votes to have certain people paid more and have more power over you. Democracy is based on the idea of choosing who will rule you. To say you are equal in power to the president, senators, congressmen in real terms is preposterous. Further, in the United States we are not in a true sense a democracy. We are a representative democracy-- we choose who will decide which people will make decisions for us. So we are two parts removed from a democracy. To make things even more interesting we are structured as a republic. Meaning we have whole branches of government which are not elected. Democracy is a very nice word, but in many ways it has very little to do with the reality of the government in the United States. Direct democracy which assumes the right for you to participate in government directly if you are interested and have a right to vote in all government issues is closer to egalitarian. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Ahh the finer potions of Avernum I prefer restoration brew-- it has a nice kick. Gremlin merlot is excellent as well. Although not an alcoholic potable, a steady supply of energy elixirs is most pleasant. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I can think of several reasons: 1) More nifty items. 2) Better cut scenes with lots of praise-- they talk about your great contributions, etc. 3) More opportunity to kill things. There are more good guys to kill. 4) An opportunity to prove you are superior to the monsters. 5) You get to enslave or execute your enemies. 6) Nobody has done a pure raiding type of scenario in Blades of Avernum where the objective is piracy, looting, stealing religious artifacts, and enslaving enemies. You could be paid to do this against the enemies of the empire. Basically, the characters would initially act as mercenaries without morals until they find themselves in a morally ambiguous situation... 6) Also a bounty hunter type scenario could provide a wonderfully morally ambiguous start... -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I do not know a whole lot about Manga. I have a bit of an idea about about anime but not much. Still, it would be nice to find out a bit more about them. Review sites for manga would be cool. I have read a tiny bit of it. Barefoot Gen is of course the quintessential "graphic novel" although people would not call it that. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. A lot of people will want to go to Avernum. The surface is basically explored. I think that various adventurers and wealth seekers will go to the edges of Avernum into the slith lands and Vahnati lands and cause trouble. It will be very hard to stop them. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Hello all, I am interested in finding good places to look at reviews for graphic novels, not The Comics Journal . Most of the places I can find which review new graphic novels are awful. They look like they are written by drunk monkeys. I can find what is forthcoming for science fiction and fantasy at SF Site and Locus Magazine I have a few favorite graphic novels-- Stan Mack, The Cartoon History of the Universe, P. Craig Russell-- The Ring of the Nibelungen, Frank Miller-- 300, The Dark Night Returns, Ronin, Alan Moore-- Promothea, and Box Office Poison. Do you have any favorites or recommendations. Regards, Toast. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. Too bad Terrors Martyr is indestructible. I can fight him, but not kill him in the Artifacts Hall. I did manage, however to leave without getting any of my characters killed through the exit portal after attacking Terrors Martyr. Terrors Martyr must be related to Lyfan. Out of curiosity why does Terrors Martyr only summon vampires. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I think they want us to go away because they do not like us even if we give them money. We are getting angry and trying to find justifications to stay. Thus we look for things that are wrong with them so we can make them take our help. This help often comes with a price-- listen to our missionaries, let us look for evil muslim sympathizers, use this brand it is best, please change your government we do not like it, we would rather have something more like us there. That is the truth. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Star Bright, Star Light, Oh I Wish I May, I Wish Might, Wish For One Star Tonight. There are some advantages to not having a lot of character traits. Once you get high enough level, you start getting special skills. As you advance in special skills-- magical efficiency, lethal blow, parry, riposte, etc. your characters without the experience penalty will often become better than the characters with special traits-- they will be much higher level with more slots in high level skills. At low level special skills are very good. At high level they can be a disadvantage. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. My grammar sucks... To get published you need to have less than two obvious grammatical mistakes per page or the editors won't even look at it. They just throw it in the slush pile. It costs a lot of money to have a proofreader run through a grammatically bad story. So, I have been working on improving my grammar and structure. I got one rejection slip for a short story I sent in. From what I understand, the best way to do it is to send in several short stories for publishing. Once you get three or four stories in print, you have a much better chance of getting a book published. I've thought about writing here and there, but am not doing it right now. If I did start writing again; I would look for a writing group so I could get critiqued regularly. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. I am really not looking for definitions. I really don't need them. I am more interested in your thoughts about what an "adventurer" does and the process of how they lead their lives. I think it has more to do with exceptional daring and willingness to explore new things. So Armstrong would qualify. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh. Ayn Rand is an artist. She is writing about architecture and art. She is coming from the viewpoint of an arrogant self-centered but very successful artist. I found her work the "Romantic Manifesto" to be well worth reading. What she says about the lack of esthetics in the modern age is correct. However, most of the so called "objectivists" are not artists. They are arrogant financial types who have no understanding of art or beauty. They take the points of her writing as an excuse to be self- centered, arrogant, and hedonistic without providing any kind of monumental contributions in architecture, art, philosophy, or science. Central to her philosophy is monumental accomplishment. -------------------- Wasting your time and mine looking for a good laugh.
