Orb of Thralni fails? in The Exile Trilogy

There is an area of that province where the orb is not supposed to work. You need to fight your way through the Keep and below to gain access to the area beyond the mountains. I think you can use the Orb to return from the other side. It's to keep it from being to easy to avoid a major encounter.

Viability of Lifecrafter investing heavily in spells in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

The lifecrafter is better to spend points in intelligence to have more and powerful creations rather than attack spells. The AI tends to go after things that attack and the lower health makes the lifecrafter a touch more vulnerable, but not by much.

It will probably work if you don't mind burning through essence pods since a large amount is permanently tied up in creations. You won't have the major damage that a dedicated infiltrator will have. It does take until late in chapter 2 before you can get items that will allow you to shape effectively and chapter 3 to really have shaping without investing in those skills.

Pyrog has one, Motrax, the GIFTS, and Mertis Spiral are the other three that you can get normally. The fifth brooch was stolen and there is a statue that gives information that the thief is in Dharmon prison. The prisoner sends you to Mertis where you can buy the last brooch. One of Erika's books lists the locations of the four brooches.

I think Erika gives you the password as part of agreeing to do her quest to kill Hawthorne. You need it to get the last brooch location.

Pyrog isn't too bad if you get the buff spells up quickly or have them up before talking. I don't remember having to do anything special. Just keep healed up and have a fighter keep Pyrog busy. It's afterwards when you loot the place that I had trouble.

A4 and A5 have two groups of quests. The job board which is based on the dispatcher of A3/E3 idea and there are quests that you get from talking to people. It's easy to miss them if you take the wrong dialog branch or find that you got one and didn't notice it while playing.

Jeff did do what he said about adding more character graphics especially for the nonhumans. Still it would be nice to have a few more. There's always A6.

There are 2 passwords. The 4 part password is for the quest to find the way to the surface.

There is another password to get her spy statues to talk to you. If you find the correct statue you click on it to talk like a person and some will give useful information. You may have to go back to Erika if you didn't get that password.

Jeff fixed most of the problems during beta testing. It doesn't work as well against the major fights with named characters.

I've run everything but warrior. Daze/strong daze works great when you only have your character and no creations. The more creations you have, the less need for mental magic.

I used mass madness a lot in the end since even when you don't charm, the daze and slowing effects are nice. Area effect spells are great when you have a low dexterity lifecrafter that can't hit with a single target spell.

Serviles work well if you think of them as guardians/agents. They get to pick from battle spells and combat options for whatever the situation. When all else fails at the end, they can still create a few powerful creations to help them out.

Lifecrafter (shaper) is the easiest to run since all you really need is to raise intelligence, a shaping class, and some blessing magic. Infiltrator (agent) works well if you prefer spells.

I had to check. A4 and Nethergate: Resurrection switched from CTRL and click with the mouse to using Shift and click with the mouse to get a box where you are asked the number you want to move.

You can fight your way out without spells. Energy potions will replace the spell energy, but it's easier to use items. Potions for healing, wands for damage, summoning creatures for targets, and just have your fighters carry the load.

I had to do it this way when my only save was just before the Mung demon attack. I had to raise a spellcaster, but it's possible.

Jeff reads the emails, but since he is working on Avernum 5 he doesn't spend as much time reading the boards. Even if Jeff doesn't, he has a secretary that can help you so email is best.

Try Silverlocke to the west of the Castle when you are high enough level to be worthy. I think there are a few elsewhere, but I can't recall. This is why you need potions and fighters.

Another way if you still have the compressed game file is to reinstall it. The preference file with your registration should be unaffected allthough I copy that to a backup for safekeeping.

Back up all your files.

Go into "Geneforge 4 Files" and look for a folder marked "Scripts" that has the individual scripts Then find the appropriate script to open using a text editor program.

If you are using an existing editor, then you replace the old script with the new one that has the editor installed in that script. Because of problems downloading an editor you may have trouble getting an editor to work. See above posts about it.

I still like the police beat report in college where a student called the police in to investigate his dead fish that was lying on his desk outside the tank. He wanted them to find out who killed his fish. Investigators reported it as a suicide.

Someone once remarked over in Avernum Trilogy that Hedge Wizard was the best of the pregenerated characters. Still having all those spells at the start more than makes up for the loss of skill points. There are less wasted skill points for the beginning when you need certain skills more than others.

Some locked doors require certain tool use and will have a difficulty message when you try them. Others on the upper level need the Tower key (its usually listed under special items as Patrick's Tower key unless Jeff finally fixed it). You get this key when you finish the demon removal quest for Kelner.

A2 and Nethergate original are still my favorites.

A5 is looking to be a close contender except that there are too many places where you can't leave the area until the boss fight. Can't wait until I have time to replay the game and see if I can make a party that will get out of chapter 4 without having to do the quests.

It is possible to make a character open 90 difficulty doors, but reports from those that did was that there was nothing of value behind them.
