Yes. You can only learn the spell from Sammael by turning in the stones. The good news is that the spell in Nethergate: Resurrection is a pale imitation of the original game where it gave invulnerability and all the abuses that players did with it. You won't really miss the spell since it basically just buffs the caster with bless, protection, and haste. Even Romans don't really benefit from it and they can only give the stones to Sammael. It's been a while but I programmed in Fortran. Beta testing is split between those that have done it before and did a good enough job to be asked back and new applicants that fulfill some guidelines that Jeff never tells us about. Just apply and see what happens next time Jeff asks. Although you can expect a wait of over a week sometimes before Jeff sends information that you are accepted. It helps to be sneaky to eliminate the Titan's help before the big fight. The key is behind a forcefield, but the lever to get to it's controls is hidden by a pillar. When you complete Kelner's quest to kill the tower's demon, he unlocks the door above him that leads to the spell book. This is the only way to access that spell book. The next one is in Harston in the Giant Lands, much later in the game. You could always add mage skills to your priest to get the minimum level to use unlock door spell. There was Boot Hill's injury system where not only was damage determined but location of injury. So you could lose use of part of your body. That game favored first strike over accuaracy in hitting since you could take someone out with a shotgun blast very easily. Still Synergy has a point in that it should be easier to replace characters but still have them close enough in ability so the new ones aren't pack mules. The main complaints seem to be the jumps from island to island and how black and white the choices are between Rebel and Shaper in each island. You have to pick a side by the end of the third island and can't just be neutral as in the first 2 games, or powergame with helping everyone to get ahead. Nethergate gets more interesting later in the game. It's split into two parts. The main quests of Ruined Hall, Goagh Nar, Castle Aethdoc, Annwn, and the Spire of the Ages are the the essential quests that you have to do to complete the game. Then there are the optional quests like in the other games that you can do in any order that allows you to survive. It's a small world compared to Avernum, but there is usually a dungeon in each part of the 25 zones and there are lots of interesting things to see that are hidden away so you only see them if you are in a particular place in each zone. "c" brings up the full spell menu, but the letters are all over the keyboard. The only way to change hotkeys is using a program that changes the keyboard arrangement so the letters that you want to use will be clustered together. You would need to place labels on the keyboard for the new arrangement. This will affect the keyboard until you change it back so it won't be convient for regular usage. To get to the Village (Spirit Home) portal for Celts, in the lower Valley of Annwn, go to the northeast until a statue asks a riddle. This will let you go to the middle level. Cross the frozen ice to the west and the portal is in the southwest part of the middle level. To get Bel's permission, you need to go back to the Halls of the Dead and go inside past where the Rhys stopped you. Bel is seated on a throne and will give permission. I don't remember if he wants you to do the Wild Hunt also. There is only one set of stones to give to Sammael or the Rose Lady so you never get rid of one quest. The portals in Annwn are different for the Roman and Celt versions. Celts can get into Bel's area from the portal in the southeast part of the lowest Valleys of Annwn. There are 3 portals for each area of Annwn so it really helps to know where you are each time, unless you want to fight everything in the place. Sammael should be at the entrance to the Vale of Sould unless you went into the areas to the southeast that he tells you not to go and explore. ET uses a slith spear for combat and not a dagger. Plus he is less likely to know how to create bots. Ed on the other hand made lots of threats including things that implied he's more likely to take revenge.
