For all that's been said, I sort of agree with Sir David. When they start developing extra fingers and webbed feet from inbreeding, they're hatrdly going to be poster boys for that exalted White Race of theirs anyway. The main reason homosexuality has been the subject of prejudice is that it's non-procreative - hence no new little citizens to tax, spend and go join the Army. And it crosses usually strictly-defined lines between gender roles. There was particular fuss about a man being passive (receiving) in ancient Greek (and to lesser extent, Roman) society as this was seen as 'womanly' and women weren't typically prized in these very patriarchal societies. I guess tht's why they did't think to take turns eiher.... Anal (and in Scotland. once a Calvinist heartland) oral acts regardless of the gender of those concerned were technically banned in UK too up until the Sexual Offenses Act only a couple of years ago finally took Henry VIII's prejudices off the statute book. Never heard of any prosecutions for decades though, not least because homosexuality had been legalised back around 1964, along with laws concerning suicide and capital punishment being liberalised. You might want to check out the thread on converting BoE scenarios to BoA ones to find out why. A lot of designers used to go there to mock each others efforts and--better--swap tips. A lot of people start out there asking for hints on the three starter BoE scenarios, but beyond that there are so many custom scenarios now that you'll be very lucky to get hints on any of those (I try...). A shame really - BoE was a gift to the world... Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

I hope I don't bore you with my anti-racist musings. The point about Burnley, Oldham and suchlike BNP heartlands is that they're 'White flight' areas where people that didn't like multiculturalism in Manchester moved on to. The BNP would have trouble surviving in Manc, in any sense. Sort of amusing low house prices than led to a big Asian influx - but the BNP are still marginal, frankly, and their politics 'last generation' with everyone except a vastly dwindling football hooligan culture. They're mainly getting votes only because the Tories are in such disarray. Lone Flame says the KKK HQ is in PA. Has he seen rural PA? Real hillbilly country - with a past tradition that only skin colour put them 'above' equally impoverished rural Blacks. But the Klan is absurdly factionalised and living on 1860s / 1920s 'glories'. There was a KKK HQ in Slidell, Louisiana, when I passed through there. Dime a dozen, really. EDIT: I was struck by what M Boehm said about prejuduce on grounds of sexual orientation, certainly more ancient than racism (principally an earl-modern phenomenon, as now understood). There are no anti-hate laws limiting homophic expression on this as on race issues in UK, and I understand prejudice is so deep that it's impossible to even get international conventions against it. Here (UK),'buggering' is another word for sodomy, as in the fine old Navy tradition of 'rum, sodomy and the lash'. It comes from the Bogomile heresy of the 9th century and also 'Bulgaria', where the Bogomiles were apparently most active back then. I was somewhat surprised it was presented as a tenet of Witness faith. Both the bit about the 144,000 elect and concerns about pollution from blood are conventional Biblical texts, Revelation and Leviticus, sort of specifically. I understand Witnesses got rather more flak about the invisible return of Christ (i.e. the 2nd Coming) in 1914. Personally, I prefer this sort of thing to the tepid Anglican tradition I was bought up and unsurprisingly lost interest in around puberty. At least the Jehovahs demand some commitment. ... Not wishing to re-open old wounds, it was actually JF that started ranting in his usually unintentionally comic manner about Mother Theresa. No one is a saint, especially those role-playing sainthood so assiduously. Oh well... Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

In answer to your question, Morgan, White people owned Black people a lot more recently in the American south than in UK. I think the Russians abolished serfdom before the US abolished slavery, in fact. There were only a fer years in it, anyway. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

BTW, utopianism and millenarianism are usually allied ('the New Jerusalem', etc). Marie Louise Berneri had good cause to complain that utopias turned tepid and cautious in the 19th century, just as Christianity went into decline. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Er - what "problems of interracial dating"? Sounds like some people need access to a bigger gene pool to me (see a particularly disturbing account in 'Lost White Tribes' about the rednecks of the Caribbean, who apparently preferred incest to 'breeding out'!) A mate of mine had his knob done. We were all cringing and crossing our legs tightly (like he couldn't!) and saying "Do you want ice with that?" He had it taken out again after a few months. We never could figure out why he had it done until we saw the woman doing it. Also, I ran into this crusty type with ACAB ('All Coppers Are Illegitimate') tattooed in 3" high letters across his forehead. He could never understand why he kept getting busted. No, I am not an [expletive] hippy. They buried the last of them up on the Haight-Ashbury in '67, maaan. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

I had to laugh at the one about the women that spelled out "No War" with their naked bodies in Central Park in an appeal to stop US intervention in Iraq. Wrong president, ladies - just a couple of years too late there.... Any good hoaxes out there at the expense of politicians? You've already had mine about Bush Snr. being reported DEAD when food poisoning on a visit to Japan led to him throwing up in a senior Japanese diplomat's lap. The media rushed his obit around the world for hours before thery checked their facts...! Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

actually JF, some people are of the opinion thast Agnes Bordescu (Mother Theresa) wasn't a very nice person. She was great pals with Emva Hoxa, the demented Albanian dictator, for a start... Is 'eating shrimp' slang for some sort of perviness? And are those the words of the King James version? "Thou shalt not lie with a shrimp as if it were a wo/man for it is abomination" etc... And "Uthopia" is spelled 'Utopia', at least if it's Thomas Moore's one. I'm not really for it, but what surprises me is that no one is so far arguing the free market somehow provides a better mechanism than government tax 'n' spend. Once upon a time, the roads, hospitals and what-have-you were all private and it looks like the majority will be again at this rate. Taxation is paternalistic--it works on the assumption someone other than you knows how best to spend your money to the benefit of the broader community--which is why I guess the anarchists are against it. Beyonde regulation and harm reduction, a key argument for legalising drugs rather more addictive and toxic than cannabis is that people won't steal to buy something they can get for free. Cops say 90% of some crimes (e.g. burglary, shoplifting) are down to junkies, though I guess this varies a lot from area to area. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Definitely better to work on a hoiday - double-time and a leiu day thrown in where I am. There is something wrong with people who don't know what to do with themselves when not working though - they definitely need to give some thought to a better meaning of life. Maybe that's why scholl / college hols are so long (or maybe to work full-time and pay for their education then...) Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Does David think suicide is still illegal, or did I miss something here? In terms of the ongoing illegality of intoxicants, one of the ironies is that cannabis--as one of the least harmful--will be last to be legalised. If I want to score heroin or coke in this town--for free, I might add--I just go to the local clinic and present some BS history of addiction to get myself registered as an addict. Those drugs are legal, at least under (pretty damn loose) medical supervision, already even if dealing them isn't. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Oh, Khoth - I know what you do with sock puppets. No thanks! As to middle aged people that don't want pot legalised - of course. They'd go out of business or, worse, have to open a government-licensed cafe / head shop if they did. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |
