The Talking Skull says where they all are. Eventually. That's at the centre of a bunch of celebrating monsters on a hill w. of the bridge that takes you to the two key trade towns. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Oh, you are quick, PBR. But no - apparently, it was the custom to castrate choirboys to preserve their high voices beyond (wht would have been) puberty. The Vatican choir had eunuchs in it until the 1920s, something that surprised and mildly shocked me (was their no limit to their parents' ambition?) and such individuals were renown for their great height. I'm sure there's an endocrinologist out there than can give you the full gen on this. Is someone going to cast 'restore topic' now? Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Human eunuchs grow to enormous size too. A hormonal thing, apparently. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

I prefer how the Python boys asked the question. :D I can't see this topic surviving much longer unlocked though, regardless. BTW, before the Enlightenment, people didn't bother asking about the meaning of life. For all its faults (and I am not a fan), the Church gave them one. EDIT: To preclude any misunderstanding, when I wrote immediately above that "the Church gave them one", I meant a meaning of life, not any breach of clerical vows of celibacy at the expense of an unreasonably compliant Medieval peasantry (though there was that too). Just a couple of points: 1) There's conflict between the races in Avernum because there isn't a great deal of room down there. By dumping all its dissidents there, the Empire was trying to 'pour a quart into a pint pot'. Some conflict arises as some of Avernum's inhabitants are wicked types--demon worshiop and that--but most is just typical Darwinian conflict for resources. 2) I only asked whether there was a nephil / rakshasi connection as nephils always end up getting blamed for rakshasi excesses, suggesting the latter are setting them up deliberately rather than it being pure human prejudice. The rakshasi keep cats, but not nephilim, suggesting their affection does not extend to all fellow felines.... (PS: On the subject of affection for felines, I think speculation on human / nephil hybrids is in poor taste ) Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

A quibble: I thought the Sliths only became demon worshippers after arriving in Exile, and not all of them at that. I thought the cult of ancestor worship through statues more typical and original. On the Nephilim, you never see a city of theirs in Valorim, their original home, and there's every suggestion that all existing cities were built by the Empire during their invasion via Blackcrag rather than simply siezed from the Nephilim. Are the ruins occassional found recently destroyed by trogas, giants and other plague-creatures or more ancient Nephil cities destroyed by the Empire hundreds of years before? Or aren't they naturally city-dwellers, which would explain why their culture was never complex (like the goblins, who apparently never sussed out metallurgy) and why the Empire swept them aside so easily? And what is the relationship between the Nephilim and the Rakshasi - just their 'patsies' or something more? Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

The provisioner there sells you torches + L1 of the mine (the first 4 rooms) are replete with torches and candles, won by just offing a few rats. And there's no reason you can't do the whole of L1, L3 and good parts of L2 (where the only ranged attacks are from the goblin shaman) without light anyway. I agree it was experimental, but very much liked the attention to historical detail, the classical quotes before each section and so forth. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

The Crown is reachable round the back of the Hall of the Dead. I think you have to go through the Temple of Judgement to the W of it, but will really need the key o get in. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

I'm sure Demi Moore wouldn't take the role - unless we can work gratuitous nudity in somewhere. :D Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

Thinking on it, Can'tActio looks a bit like a goblin - those skinny limbs + big head. No pointy ears tho'. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

To fit an approx. 100 minute format, you'd have to brutally edit it, maybe one E3 plague and exploring the three way nuances between Erika, Prazc and Rentar. Contrast the average length of a movie + information-richness (not!)with how long Exile takes to play through. + Jeff would like the royalties, I'm sure.
