So are "[t]he people there ... BLACK BANNER ANARCHISTS ... All the money goes straight into their pockets to FUND THE OVERTHROWING OF THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT!"?

Other than being a darned good game, I wonder what their attraction to GF is? As a polemic guarding against the corrupting influence of Power (note the de rigeur capital 'P')? As the Shaper is some embodiment of Stirnerite egoism? Any theories, any of you "BLACK BANNER ANARCHISTS" out there?

From a purely academic perspective, is this thread an example of 'trolling'. I understood it to mean someone deliberately voicing unpopular opinions in an unsympathetic forum in the hope of stoking up raging argument. And double-posting too. :(

^Very devout. Someone once said "never take on the Brigade of Guards, the National Union of Miners, or the Catholic church" so I will offer no criticism of His Holiness. You have may comments on the Dalai Lama earlier if you want to scale what I might have said....

USA = USSR in General

As what was once probably the West's last absolutist country, Russians are used to authoritarian rule (not that they typically like it).

The trouble with the US is that it started out on liberal principles about separation of powers and other limits on the encroachment of State power on individual liberty (not least because they'd seen the same thing happen through the previous century to 'freeborn Englishmen', never mind themselvs) and now certain people think that such diversity is bad for their profits after all. It doesn't surprise me--all companies seek monopoly--but for those bought up with the rhetoric of individual freedom (even freedom to hold arms! ;) ), the reality of what their society is becoming must be upsetting to all but the most powerful or imperceptive.

(Edited for typos)

I think, Sir David, that the Gaelic speakers think English should be transliterated their way. Especially Gaelic names.

Nowadays, I think USSR = USA is a fairer statement, though McDonalds is held in much higher esteem over there. No democracy and few workers rights? Well, think of the USSR as what they would like America to be like if all these damn persky liberals would only stop interfering with the mystical workings of the free market.

God has a beard too. So do I.

EDIT: Last time I checked, the poll as 58% for and 63% against. Have some of you been voting twice, in best Irish tradition?

You see, LF, you are loved and cherished by trhe comunity after all. As a special mark of favour, we could turn this into a counselling forum for you - you know, all that empowerment and self-affirmation stuff. :D

BTW Red Scare: I'd seek medical attention if my faeces were Coke-coloured, likely for internal bleeding.

I didn't either but, heck, he's gotta be better than Bush! Space aliens that suck babies' brains out through their eyes are.

Seriously, I once had time for Vacslav Havel ("too moral to be a politician" - Newsnight) until he put tanks in the streets against the G8 demonstrators. I think there is a special circle of Hell reserved for all world leaders.

(BTW, check out the Dalai Lama's chummy relationship with the CIA and its consequences for the Tibetan people before he fled into exile before nominating him aas 'write-in all-time goodguy world leader').

You get uber-glaakhs in GF, of course. And Nietzsche had his uber-moustache, as you can see from the pic, even if it was compensation for a thoroughly miserable life, topped by being cast as Prof. Moriarty by Conan Doyle.

Are anthropologists being xenophobic when they suggest German culture seems excessively focused on the bodily functions mentioned above? Or was it just Martin Luther?

In my experience, Americans are even more disturbed by casual nudity (esp. male nudity) on foreign TV than swearing. And news reports that last longer that three sentences without an ad break.

We have a different, more benificent welfare system here, though I too feel too much goes on (non-)managers and Tony's cronies and not enough on meeting the needs of the needy.

I am embarassed by my enthusiasm for the Ring cycle. :o Wagner was a very nasty man. They don't even allow it to be played in Israel.

It's clearly directed at non-BoE initiates. If it was on the BoE board, discussion would obviously be a lot narrower as only people into BoE would contribute.

What people actually say on the boards is a finer instrument than karma, but if someone is particularly helpful, amusing or likeable (or not), then karma is an indicator of sorts. Why I have **** then, I really don't know.

Er, 'XYY' was too long to spell? I guess I'm sort of Order Mage's boss.

I suppose Lone Flame is the sort of e-equivalent of Lone Wolf. I used to know I guy that had that as the colours on the back of his jacket and couldn't understand why all the Club people kept beating on him!
