Are there secret passages? in Avernum 4 | |

(looks around suspiciously) Okay, since it appears that the game has been released, I guess I can tell you what I know about this. In short, no. There are no secret passages like in A1/2/3/BoA, where you have to run into walls nonstop to find one measly passage. Any extant secret passages look like perfectly normal walls, and only open if you've done some quest, or happen to notice it as you walk by. So don't sweat it... if you're supposed to find it, the game will make sure that you get in. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Okay, good. Now I understand what was being said. Satirical/sarcastic/comical songs are the best... "Christmas at Ground Zero" comes to mind. Traditional carols are either beautiful or boring. I'm deeply sorry for your operating system's inadequacies... but that's for another discussion in another time. Anyway, it'll be out soon (at least for us Mac users), and then all of us can finally share our boundless wisdom about the workings of Avernum IV. And believe me, we've amassed quite a bit. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. For the love of god wait until the official release. That could be an incomplete version, and if it's the same as the last version Jeff handed us testers, it probably is. Calm yourself... it'll be there for Christmas. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Calm down, calm down! If you had any idea how much work we've put into making sure the game is playable, you'd be glad that it isn't out yet. That means that Jeff is fixing stuff we found that was horribly, horribly wrong! (hopefully) -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." Actual spells, as in ones that would appear in the menu next to Bolt of Fire and such, no. But you can create items that act as spells (see Canopy for examples... many examples). As for the second part... no. Well, kind of. You can't have a sword that casts Arcane Blow when you hit someone with it, but you can do all the extra damage stuff (like the Flaming Sword). And you can (correct me if I'm wrong) give it a special ability that will let it act like a wand, but you won't be able to use said spell while it's being wielded. Come to think of it, I might have to try that. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. quote:I agree. A2 was the best of the trilogy by far, and it's the only one I ever gave a dedicated replay to. Of course, A4 is good, it just can't really be compared to the first three (and BoA, fine). Actually, I think A4 > A3. But that shouldn't be a surprise. And lastly, this forum is thoroughly deserving of this topic. Whenever a new game comes out, it sparks this controversy. And besides, General is... well, too general. How often do you see actual discussions of the games in General? I do not mean to offend you O Mighty Tentacle, but this topic should stay put. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." quote:Not so... I've always been an Avernum person. Height differences add so much to the game (thus I infer that 3d is awesome). Thus, I'm a little angry with how A4 turned out, general 3d-ness aside. I miss height... I do agree with Alorael that A4 looks fine, however. The graphics are generally a huge step up from the rest of the series, and animations... did I mention animations? I've never played any Geneforge, but I like seeing animations in Avernum. And about music... I find that the background sounds actually enhance the mood quite nicely. A4's are particularly nice, and I've loved working with the stock sounds in BoA. -------------------- Thuryl: "Runescape: for people who are too stupid to save their games." I am apparently INFP as well. A "healer idealist," or so it seems. I can live with that. I think I've taken this quiz before, because the result looks familiar. EDIT: Well, if you come out as MVP, you'll have a decent contract in the future. I hate murdering. Let me say that up front. That's why I got so mad in A4 when... (gibberish). I had to shield, haste and run to keep from killing anyone. Stealing... well, if it's a nice magical thing and it's not nailed down/being watched... then what can I do? Shockwave? Mass Charm? You Exile people... But in A4 I'm surprised I never did anything stupid with (gibberish). Wow I can't wait until I can actually talk about A4. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. quote:Uh, no. Great books and all, but no. I had to default to Alorael here, but this poll is generally terrible. I mean, nobody from outside of either Spidweb itself or U.S. christian-centered pop culture... so its egocentric and ethnocentric at the same time. Just once I'd like to see a good poll. Once. It's not asking too much, is it? -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. Let's see... topics about Soul Crystals (I seem to remember there being more): HERE (Foley's Body was a bit arrogant about it) HERE HERE More on topic, Wizards and Evil High Priests?! Surely you can do better! Gazers beat Eyebeasts, Ur-Basilisks beat any drake, Demons beat Evil High Priests, Mung Demons beat Wizards. Elder Aranea pack a punch early in the game (spell-wise), and Vampires can summon more Vampires which can summon more Vampires... And in A3, Dark Wyrms are beyond evil. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. That would be even more difficult. In fact, from what I can see in the BoA Appendices, it's impossible. There just aren't calls to make it possible. EDIT: Well, there's some strange timing... if only I'd posted seconds earlier!
