Seeing as it's December and all, I was wondering what kinds of Christmas music people here prefer.

I have a preference for medieval carols, in Latin, French, or German, with particular favorites being "Personent Hodie," ""Il est ne, le divin Enfant," "Quem pastores laudavere," "Riu, riu, chiu," and "Gaudete!"

I also like traditional Christmas carols of all varieties played on Celtic instruments with no vocal accompaniment. The hammered dulcimer is another wonderful instrument for playing Christmas music.

I listen to virtually no "modern" Christmas music, i.e., anything created after 1900 or so.

Christmas would make me a perennial jew if I weren't already an atheist.

That was irrelevant, TM.
Now for my own irrelevant statement, since I am a Jew, I don't care about christmas.

Satirical/sarcastic/comical songs are the best... "Christmas at Ground Zero" comes to mind.

Traditional carols are either beautiful or boring. 'Nuff said.

God. I've never heard that and even that is too much.

I'm a big fan of traditional as well, but some modern musicians manage really good rock versions of the classics, and I can't get enough of those. Of course, most rock versions suck. It's a vicious cycle.

I hate that frog so much. I fail to see how that rubbish can be even classified as music, and not aimless noise.

Personent Hodie, Est Ist Ein Rose, and other assorted early music pieces. If I can't really get into the whole savior's birth thing I might as well enjoy good music.

—Alorael, who actually isn't quite sure that Est Ist Ein Rose is Christmas music. It always shows up at Christmas and it's beautiful, though, so he'll go with it.

I like the Christmas carols by P. D. Q. Bach. :D Other than that, right now they're all annoying me because I have been forced to listen to them every morning as the chamber chorus had a concert with the Baltimore Symphony and then they all got stuck in my head.

TM, Christmas is not the topic here. For the record, I don't think highly of organized religion.

That doesn't stop me from liking Christmas Carols and other church/choral music - I'm a big fan of Mozart's Requiem, for instance. Unfortunately, since I graduated high school I haven't joined a choir again, which means I haven't had the opportunity to sing a lot of anything, especially christmas songs. In the last year of school, when our old choral director went back to New Jersey (the best choral director I have known in my life, incidentally), she was succeeded by another director who was also competent, but didn't share my taste in "non-modern" music, so it wasn't that nice anymore.

Gaudate is one of my favorite christmas songs as well.

Although I couldn't care less about Christmas myself, some Christmas songs are halfway decent. "O Holy Night" is a favorite of mine, as is John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." Actually, Paul's "Wonderful Christmas Time" isn't bad, either.

I'd have to say anything that's jazz, jazz is the only way to go. Other than that I'd say Jingle Bell Rock.

I hate most Christmas music. A lot.

There are a few exceptions, though. Relient K did an excellent Christmas album... Santa Claus Is Thumbing To Town and I Celebrate The Day are the highlight tracks for me.

What do you define exactly as bad Christmas music?

You know, why the Sliths are green - because of their scales.

Maybe you know why some slith eyes were once red - ´cause the demons, which led them were red.

But why are the eyes of the Slith Lord Followers red? Because they see the remains of their enemies always before the battle begins!
