Maybe he means his brain... in which case, it appears to be a slightly misshapen muscle, perhaps from the effects of having a stash of something-or-other in there.

EDIT: I like how this is the picture he posted to the Frappr page.

Hm... this could take a sec. I'm no expert on poetry mechanics (as the junk I'm going to post shall reveal), so feel free to ignore me.

SupaNik: A little cryptically dark (I probably just invented a word), but still enjoyable. Kinda-sorta thought-provoking.

Synergy: Interesting... I see the gothic part, but not so much the romantic part. Evokes the setting of Lord Putidus to some degree (the fact that my mind is even thinking like that scares me).

Saunders: Enjoyable, in the sense that it didn't appear to have a meaning (that's the impression I got anyway), so I didn't have to strain my brain finding one.

Jewels: Very nice, with suitable wit. Good stuff for grade school (also, dark stuff for grade school).

Aran: The made-up words are reminiscent of Jabberwocky (I mean, lorysbirds?). Still, nice and detailed, I imagine that it'd be good exposition for an RP. Seems like that should part of an an epic poem.

Zeviz: I wrote something like that once, but it was more prose than poetry, and focused on a post-performance theater. Very nice.

Pien': I like how simple the squirrel one is, and the second one... well, honestly, it hurt my brain. Just too complex/random for me, or maybe I just need to let it sit in the back of my mind for a while.

Nicothodes: I like the first one, good message and rhythm. Second one, good as well, but the two longest lines break up the flow a bit too much, at least to me.

EDIT: I forgot Infernal's song: Downright disturbing.

I shall dig up one or two of my less vomit-inducing prose/poems to post, so that I actually contribute something substantial to this thread.

Uh... I honestly can't think of a way to respond to this.

Wait... I lied.

I don't name them. It's not like I need to yell their names for them to work, so I feel that the present arrangement works just fine.

OoC: I'm just saying that you had Edith walk over to you and your demons when she was walking down towards the tunnel where Sequoia and Lisha were. Nevermind, doesn't matter. Let's just keep this moving.

OoC: Wait... Tuulentekija's blinded? It didn't look like that in Sherlock's post.

EDIT: And Sherlock did specifically run back up the tunnel towards the light given off by Sequoia's spell, just look back two posts:

Actually, I find that most alt. rock bands (at least ones I listen to) adapt to the rhythm of combat rather easily. In fact, the song "Get in or Get Out" (by the band Hot Hot Heat) seems almost tailor-made for people crazy enough to live in Avernum:

"Ugly or pretty, it's still my city
Make up your mind and get in or get out"

Whoops... posted my home zip code instead of my university's. But then again, they're both in St. Louis.

Odd... three of us are from Missouri?

None of you could find me on campus anyway, since I've been trapped in my dorm room by a mountain of homework as of late.

OoC: Must... salvage... RP. Must... finish!

IC:

Sequoia followed quickly in Lisha's wake, as the passage they travelled along grew narrower and rougher. He couldn't tell where they were going (be it up or down), but the cold wind he had felt down in the caves was growing stronger. Stranger still, the walls no longer had much moss on them, and frost crystals soon crowded the moss out. To Sequoia, this meant one of two things: they were getting farther from the warmth of the sun, or they were nearing the thoroughly-iced-over outer surface of the mountain.

Either way, it gets us farther away from the demon, he thought gloomily as he leapt over a stalagmite, barely clearing it.

They ran on for a while, and the passage grew colder.

"Am I hallucinating, or is it getting lighter?" Sequoia asked, mentally weighing the risks of an unfocused heating spell to combat the cold. As an image of a flaming cloak reached his mind's eye, he abandoned the idea.

"I hope so," Lisha said, not really seeming to pay attention.

------

The walls were now thickly coated with frost, and Sequoia could see stalactites connected to the ground by pillars of ice. As he ran, he encountered the odd patch of black ice, as did Lisha. The two sensibly slowed to a quick walk.

"It could be the light reflecting off the ice, but it's definitely lighter in here." Lisha said matter-of-factly. "And that wind is getting fierce."

Sequoia briefly nodded, and they trudged on.

-----

Snowflakes. The things blowing in their faces were snowflakes. Sequoia could scarcely believe it, having thought himself doomed to roam the passages of the mountain until something finally killed him. And snow means open air, and open air means sunlight... he thought excitedly.

They had slowed considerably, given how vicious the ice had become, forming painful-looking spikes on every wall of the passage. However, the light from Sequoia's hands was virtually unnecessary now, with how much light the ice reflected.

Turning a final corner, Sequoia and Lisha stopped dead in their tracks.

"Sunlight..." the druid nearly whispered, gazing out at the snow-covered mountainside, onto which the passage opened. Something deep in Sequoia's soul stirred, something which hadn't moved since they had entered the mountain. He could almost feel renewed energy surging through his veins... Maybe I can finally fix my staff.

After a moment, Lisha stepped out of the cave into the cold, gale-filled air, and looked down the mountain. "We're a lot higher up than I thought we were. I can almost see the peak through the snow."

Ignoring the fact that this meant being farther from the safe, normal, sane forest below, Sequoia basked in the diffuse sunlight coming down through the snowstorm. He looked out to the horizon, casting his eyes up the mountainside. Sure enough, the peak was hidden by the clouds of the snowstorm, which unsettled the druid a bit. It had been quite some time since he'd been at this altitude.

Perhaps this quest can still be salvaged... Sequoia thought happily as snow pelted him in the face.

A minute later, both of them turned abruptly to the sound of crashes and muffled cursing coming from the passage they'd just exited.

OoC: There's an open call for Tuulentekija, Edith, and/or Melora to rejoin us. Just one plea, and it's for Thralni: wait until the others get here, because it just won't make sense.

No kidding, Ash. If you've got the free time to beat DwtD with a level-1 party without magic and with heavy disadvantages, not to mention the time to try similar feats for other scenarios, then you've got the time to make a scenario.

Come to think of it, you should make one that can't be beaten like you've done with DwtD (like Bahss appears to be).

I leave Sequoia in the capable hands of Aran and David, seeing as that's how the parties have (re-)split at this point.

IC:

Sequoia could hear voices now. The sounds of footsteps were now accompanied by the sound of flapping wings, and occasional bursts of shouting.

"Quick, put out that light." Lisha whispered.

I'm not even sure how I lit it... he thought. Still, with a bit of concentration, the light emanating from his hands dimmed.

"I get the impression that we should leave." Sequoia said quietly, trying to remember the path they had taken to get here. Through the forge, up the staircase, and that left us here. Where can we run to?

Without another word spoken between them, Lisha and Sequoia silently walked out of the illusion-rigged cave. However, as they left the room, they heard a magical whoosh sound, and the light of torches sprung up behind them. The illusion recharged... we must have set it off again, Sequoia thought, and a glance at Lisha's similarly-startled face suggested that she agreed. The voice of the illusory demon seemed to mock them.

As the voices from back down the tunnel abruptly stopped, Lisha and Sequoia burst into a sprint back through the caves. Practically falling down the stairs, they found themselves out of breath and sitting in the forge.

Sequoia struggled for a moment, then managed to relight his hands, filling the forge with bright yellow light. I really need to fix my staff... he thought.

"So now what?" Sequoia asked. "I mean, there's that tunnel full of... things, and then there's the outside of the mountain. And we have a loose demon now." Not to mention the elf.

As Lisha thought, Sequoia stared at the heap of rubble he had closed the other passage with. Reluctantly, he had to admit to himself that his spirit was beginning to crack under the strain of this journey. I wonder what kind of horror lurks in there... and I wonder if I'll ever see sunlight again, given my current run of luck.

OoC: I swear, if we stumble upon a box-full-of-pirate in the caves, I'm going to have to kill you, mung. Waiting on you, David.
