Among others, Daniel Quinn's Ishmael, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy, and Terry Pratchett's The Science of Discworld have all contributed to the current unhinged mental state I enjoy (or suffer, or tolerate). Of those, Ishmael probably produced the most recent change, and The Science of Discworld probably produced the biggest change. All in all, most of my college reading is slowly warping my mind... -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. Personally, I prefer the rebels. ...But it's supposed to be morally convoluted, and not even the people of Morrow's Isle (read: the peasants) really benefit either way. I really wish I could've gotten involved in this discussion... but it appears that it changes faster than I can read. The sheer volume of posts is crushing my brain. OoC: Onward, upward, and thataway! IC: Sequoia once more cast his eyes up the slope of the mountain, and tried his level best to avoid getting lost in the snowstorm which was more or less coating the mountaintop. Bits of rock stuck up from the storm at times, and they all looked unpleasant to the druid, in the sort of way a thin, sharp stalactite hanging over your head looks unpleasant. In short, pointy bits ahead... he thought. In truth, he could see a few feet in any direction before the ground was swallowed by ice, snow and wind. Not terribly conducive to a hasty retreat, but Sequoia had a bad feeling that whatever lay ahead would either kill him or be killed. There wouldn't be much of a middle ground. The sound of the wind filled his ears, and he had to use all of his mind to tune it out for even a second. He heard another crash from further down the mountain, and promptly realized that he needed all of his mind for walking when he almost stepped out into thin air. He cast his eyes around him before stepping back from the icy cliff edge. Carefully, he righted his path and trudged up the mountainside, now keeping to the side of a rather large rock formation (which offered just enough protection from the elements for Sequoia to notice a difference in visibility). Perhaps this won't be so bad, he thought, keeping one hand on the rock face. Thus, it was no surprise to him when he slipped on the icy ground, knocking the wind out of him. Then again, some shelter would be nice. A few minutes (or was it hours) later, Sequoia noticed a break in the rock. This was a noticeable relief, as the path he trod was gradually getting narrower. Conveniently, the break turned out to be a cave entrance, and Sequoia cautiously peered down it, then looked around. The snowstorm paused for a second (probably just catching its breath, he thought), and Sequoia had time to glance up toward the peak of the mountain. More sharp bits, a lot more ice, a few decent spires... it practically reeked of magical influence. While the pointy spires and such could've been natural, it was the slope of the mountain leading up to the peak which set it apart from the standard model of mountain. It seemed to slope the wrong way. Not just straight up, but right past it and sloped again. As Sequoia stood in the shelter of the cave entrance, wrapping his cloak tighter about himself, it was uncanny how closely the peak's shape resembled a scythe pointed upward. EDIT OoC: fixed typo... Anyway, I do hope that's satisfactory. [ Tuesday, November 08, 2005 23:19: Message edited by: Ephesos ] -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Chicho, I believe Espionage meant Bon-Ihrno, not Rentar. Bon-Ihrno is the one vahnatai elder who helps you throughout the game (usually appearing in the form of a shade), and whose house you can pass by on the way to Rentar's Fortress. And Bon-Ihrno is a he. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. I believe Quick Strike does both, but Dexterity is an easier way to act sooner. However, it appears that I was wrong and Quick Strike is only in BoA. That is, if it's in A3, I couldn't find it in my ridiculously-advanced save file. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Don't forget Quick Strike (though that's just in A3 and BoA, I believe). But then again, that takes a while to get. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. That frog is an abomination. 'Nuff said. The End of the World one is awesome (seen it before though). And the Demented Cartoon Movie is... well, demented. And it's also very, very, very long (I had also seen that before, disturbingly enough). It scares me that people take the time to make these. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. If you don't accept Erika's boon, it's just a longer walk through the Great Walls. A lot longer. And you never really kill Rentar. Even if you do, the plot unfolds as if she hadn't died (I know this because I had an hour to kill, and I spent it slowly killing Rentar). -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. My iBook has never had a serious problem, and it's been running OS X for over a year and a half. Most of the problems that have occurred had to do with Classic applications, actually... I'm perfectly happy with OS X. Though I do miss the happy mac icon. Really, it's just a matter of what you're happy with. If you prefer an older mac and can work with it, then stick with it. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. Did you do something to anger Erika during the game? That could very well be the cause... Did you agree to accept her boon? Actually, now that I think of it, the perfect dungeon-storming song is AC/DC's "Back in Black". It just has to be a rather short dungeon with lots of things to kill. (Post #500! Aran, don't put words in my mouth... I never said that. Anyway, here's something I dredged up from the darker confines of my iBook. Written for part of a Writing course (in one of the far-too-brief times when we did some creative, not analytical stuff), I rather like it. The MLB playoffs (which were in progress at the time) did kind of inspire it. I might dredge up another some time... just thought I'd warn people. "Stress" Twenty-six up, twenty-six down. One still remains, glaring defiantly, 9 IP... 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB. Your first pitch streaks towards perfection And misses, 1-0. The curves sliders sinkers offspeeds shoot across the plate, Your arm moving faster than your brain. You stop to reflect and it’s a full count. As you size up the zone, the crowd stands, Fielders deep, edge towards the track, Another missile launched and the crowd falls silent He pops it backwards over the plate, The first souvenir of many. 3-2 it remains, your focus shattered, Wondering what became of the final strike. Showing bunt, another pitch. Pulls back and swings foul. The battle rages, Pitch count and temper rising, Unable to finish the job, Coaching visit to the mound. Sure, it’s just one pitch, even though Out of 8, we were in the 4 remaining. Of 4, we were one of 2 survivors, And only one can win. 3-3 after six of seven, 3-2 bottom 9, And facing a BA 1.000. But after all, no pressure. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion.
